February 14, 2007 German Language Beta Launch

I guess I'll give it a try once they launch it. I only speak Dutch and English but it should be fun with German, especially since I can at least understand it a bit.

On the other hand I'm sad that they're doing different language versions. I always thought one of the greatest things about rs is that you can meet people from all over the world. Now people are probably just going to stick to their own language servers, meaning less interaction between people from different countries.

Maybe Jagex made a big mistake, because they saw a lot of people talking Dutch, but thought: they're talking German and then thought, let's make German servers!

So actually the servers are for Dutch people, but Jagex thought they were german!!

German and Dutch look like eachother but are different from eachother, a lot different!

I agree. To be honest, I've only seen 3 German players in my runescape career, while I lsot count at how many Dutchie's (no offence) I've seen. I usually notice them in groups with friends in castlewars...

loool, that was what i was thinking...

germans are just lazy... too lazy to learn english...

Dutch native speakers: about 20 million

German native speakers: about 100 million.

They're not making a translation of the game to cater to the current players, they do it to open up a new market. Which one would generate the most return on investment for Jagex ? German of course.

Add the already pretty strong Dutch contingent of people currently playing.

It's a perfectly sound marketing strategy to make a German version. French and Spanish version next.

The ironic thing is, I finally starting learning Spanish in earnest for the last few months, and when jagex DO put out a different language, it's in germen..I can't really picture germen kids/people playing runescape anyway.

I'm sorry jagex hasn't catered to your language preferences. English isn't good enough for you? Jagex isn't a language teaching company. You can learn spanish in school - you don't need runescape for it.

Um...whaa? Way to judge an entire country.

Oh and by the way, I guess you missed it reading the whole news article, and missed it reading this entire thread before you decided to post...it's spelled German, not germen.

First of all, I think that your whole post was much too aggressive. If you're going to say something intelligent, don't act as if you want to start something. Then you won't be taken seriously.

The second thing is, I'm dyslexic. I can't spell some words correctly. People like you are so preoccupied with trivial things like good spelling that you can't even understand that some people can not, in fact, spell due to neurological problems. Why is it even a big deal anyone?

Oh, and another thing I just though of: I CAN'T picture germen kids playing runescape. Thats my opinion. Edit my post somehow if you wish, but it's what I think, so I'll say it a second time: I can't picture rs being played the the german people. Sue me.

I've really seen a lot of Dutch and Spanish speaking people (like me) a lot lately, so I think they might as well be added soon. It's great I can fluently speak Spanish, German and English (going for Japanese now \' ).

Although playing RS in Japanese would be really awkward, with all the text being written vertically... :-k
