Flamebait, or is it?

I'm sure we've all been flamed before, for one thing or another. Whether that happens to be because you PC'ed the last two Hitpoints, or ZMI'ed the last few Runecrafting levels. People say you're unworthy of the level, because you did it out of the norm. Why? Because you trained the most efficiently? No, because you did the fastest way? Why shouldn't I get credit for 99 Fletching, just because I use Magic Longbows instead of Yews? Why do I get flamed for camping at slayer monsters without having the task? Is there some value, some specific way I must train my skills?

Not only do we get flamed for training skills, but for items to! Flamed because you have "pointless rares", or buying that unsellable Partyhat. And the if you merchant them, you get flamed for being a manipulator! Training combat not though Slayer? That's a huge no no. Head to Ape Atoll and start bursting? You get flamed for not being a "real" mage. Like all those ones who sit there and alch days upon nights, when you get 99 in a week.

You head into the Fight Pits, seeing people swarm around you, when all of the sudden and ice cube appears - you're frozen. Your comrades start spitting names, as if a rap, such as "noob and farcaster". They valiantly try to demolish this "farcaster" but there efforts in vain as the ice appears again and again. Soon, all but the mage remain. As he exits the Pits, he gain thousands of tokull, and thousands of Magic experience. But because he did not use melee, as all of the other fighters, so he was followed and flammed because he, wait, won? He was the one who defeated the 10 people in there, all of the others failed to harm a fly.

So why do we flame all of these? Is it because we some envy the others fast experience, or glorious victories? Do we covet the items that others but we have? Is there some way, some how that we define what truly makes the skill a skill? Is there some single way that we all deem as acceptable and others that frowned upon? But if so, why? Do we honestly need these? Some strive to mine gold for 99 Mining. It's a great method - if you want cash. But others of us will gladly take the 30k EXP/hour that we can find at the Granite Mines. We compromised cash for experience, is that something to flame or make fun out of? So I'd like to ask again, why do we get flamed for training the most efficiently, for completing the tasks faster than the rest?

I wouldn't call this a rant, but if the mods deem so, feel free to move it.

The more flamed something is the better or more efficient it is. People try to flame someone elses skills to compensate for what they are lacking. They flame methods because they can't do it. They flame items because they can't afford them. All in all most of the flamers are jerks who are jealous.

Wow, that was a nice read. I agree with you entirely, it wasn't just limited to PvP combat. These people should let others train their skills however they want. After all, it's the decision of the player, not of others.

Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob. (/Sarcasm) This same principle can be applied to almost all of you examples. Because the guy has Ice Barrage they make fun of them. The reason? Because they don't have the same ability.

Well I think my general response to this type of topic is pretty much what you insinuated. Jealousy, envy and all of those other negative selfish descriptive words.

this is a rant tbh

You have fair points, but the gist of your argument is "I can do whatever I want." A fair rebuttal to that is that if I want to pile you in the pits because a mage you are a threat to me, I can. If I want to make you aware that you've done something I disapprove of, I can do that oo.

Nice read. Most people whoothers are most of the time doing it for the above reason. However, Runescape has a stupid "honor code" which everybody must follow or they are "noobs."

Some are perfectly reasonable, such as praying melee at Friendly duel arena. Who doesn't like high hits and fast duels? However, sometimes it gets pointless, redundent, and useless. For example, at bounty hunter the same rule applies for Friendly duel arena. Which is stupid, as money is on the line. All in all, pures make these honor codes. (Most pures are little arrogant kids. Not stereotyping, but looking at the general population...) But for whatever reason, all players follow this "honor code."

Hmm... In conclusion, I would like to say that people of Runescape or stupid idiotic morons. It's best just to ignore them, or just laugh at them for their arrogance. Eh. People are stupid.

No kidding I remember wildy pk'ing like it was yesterday. You prayer noob, go by the honor code. I'm sorry but if I have 58 prayer levels invested into my combat lvl, its going to use. Most of the prayer whiners were the pures because it gave more time for you to beat away at that 1 def. Though Str bonus pures with 40 range (Basically mage killers, could hit hella high if you got that bonus, good str, str pot, and a 2h working together). Most of all just ignore the people that try to tell you what to do. Like someone said above I try to just laugh about their arrogance and stupidity and go about my business.

dont forget, REGRET. regret that YOU WORKED AND EARNED a skill to a set level. And then suddenly pyramid plunder or PC comes out. something that cranks out tons of exp, and now you worked insanely hard for what is now worthless.

remember 99 cooking pre-cook-x? lot of time and effort involved in it. But not "hard" really.

I'm not saying that being piled is a bad thing. What I'm saying is that people flame for Magic's strength, farcasting. Should I flame melee because they have Godsword's?

Nice read first of all.

I really don't get the point of flaming magic, you are suppose to say away from the enemy while you hit them and do anything you can. People take magic as "If you farcast your a noob because you should obviously tank and die from my godsword or whip" it happens in pvp a lot.

Thats what makes me annoyed. Aside from, that its stupid to "flame" someone for doing more work then they can ever imagine. You worked hard or you wanted to get the level as fast as you can. I saw in the TIF rate this area people flaming over using summoning for a "way to get easy combat levels" Then again there is the ignore list...

Yes you should flame melee[/sarcasm]

You earned those levels the guy flaming you probably didn't do it fairly, yes you can do what you want but you shouldn't called a noob or get flamed for it.

This thread reminds me of someone who hangs around edge sometimes, who thinks he's better than everyone because he's 1 summoning.

Ugh, I hate when people do that. Pures are done people. If you're not playing Bounty Hunter, then Summoning is a great skill.

I've seen him and personally had a bit of an arguement with him. I Really don't like him, he's a complete [wagon] to *anyone* who tries to talk to him, even those just trying to be friendly. I said something and he called me a "weak minded puppy." -.- And anyone who says anything otherwise to him, he challenges them to BH. That's his solution to everything...

Anyways, that out of the way, regarding the topic, I agree. The people who make fun of you for being better than them is because they're jealous that A) You're better than them, or B) That they didn't think of that way, or even C) They're just the guy in edgeville who hates the world it seems. Regardless of the reason, they're all fools, and I just ignore them. Why do I care if someone makes fun of my first 99 being str? So what if I pc'ed it a bit (before the experience was nerfed)? I used a more efficient method, and they're just jealous of it :P Use what you've got to level, get achievements, whatever. It's in Runescape to be used, not shunned.

I would just like to point out that your statement here totally contradicts your thread.

With that said, I completely agree. I wont but briefly restate what others have surely said: do things your way, and have fun doing it.

It all has to do with advantages and disadvantages. The source of the flame--the person with the disadvantage in whatever way shape or form it may be. That is as simply as I can put it.

I got some friends to come to grand exchange when i was about to buy my yellow partyhat.

After I bought it, 50% of my friends who came were saying "fail" and how dumb i was buying it.

I guess they were joking, but i spent most of my cash on something and they just make it feel like trash.

Now i just want to get rid of it because of the graphic update. -.-

I felt like my friends flamed me for buying something i wanted. :x

I agree Laura. Personally, I respect all achievements. Everyone should be proud of what they accomplished - whether it be 70 Cooking or 99 Slayer. Now, the moment they start bashing everyone else's achievements is the moment I lose all respect for that person. I wouldn't even respect someone with 99 Slayer if they did that - because it just goes to show that they got their goal just to make everyone think they are better than everybody else. If you're bashing someone else's goals, then it shows us how highly you think of your own and that you just got it so no one would be able to bash you. Goals should be achieved though your own self-satisfaction - not because you know you will get more respect from strangers for it.

If I started flaming people for being self righteous braggarts, would it mean that I'm jealous because I really want to be self righteous enough to consider myself better than everyone, or because I'm too stupid or lazy to know how to brag properly?

<3 the irony of the thread though  people flaming people for being flamers is 100% pure unadulterated lulz.

We aren't flaming them. We are saying that the flames aren't as socially acceptable as to think they are. Other then that, what are you talking about? :?

the hypocrisy of this thread and the posters is rampant.

many people ive seen agreeing with the original poster of this thread have flamed and criticized players on these boards and in-game for using quick and efficient methods of training, like pest control.

edit: so has the original poster.
