Flamebait, or is it?

I can understand why people might get irritated if you camped at slayer monsters without having them as a task, but only if it's a busy place and there aren't enough monsters to go around. Even then, it's your choice.

Just add them to your ignore list and be done with it ;)

99% of people don't use punctuations, such as periods.

92% of people would know that saying "punctuations" is an incorrect usage of the word, as there is no such thing as a punctuation; the correct thing to say would be "...don't use correct punctuation, such..."

Also, 88% of people would notice that he also forgot an apostrophe as well as the period.

OH S***! He/she/it is back!

Most of these flames come out of jealousy, or just at a frustration that they are unable to kill you in one hit.

Jealousy is the main one, no argument but you also need to realize that the average person in the fight pits isn't smart enough to use the most affective way.

This issue has been adressed before but never seems to turn less intriguing for everytime it does. Let's face it, players have developed a rulebook of how they think the game should be played and there is zero tolerance for those who don't follow it. You either get remarks or advices as if you are new to the game or simply a flame if you in some way do things in another way.

Let's make one thing clear however. Critic and flaming aren't the same. Flaming is destructive or hostile critic which is only aimed at offending another person.

Zierro's comment is a good one as well (as his usually are):

I agree Laura. Personally, I respect all achievements. Everyone should be proud of what they accomplished - whether it be 70 Cooking or 99 Slayer. Now, the moment they start bashing everyone else's achievements is the moment I lose all respect for that person. I wouldn't even respect someone with 99 Slayer if they did that - because it just goes to show that they got their goal just to make everyone think they are better than everybody else. If you're bashing someone else's goals, then it shows us how highly you think of your own and that you just got it so no one would be able to bash you. Goals should be achieved though your own self-satisfaction - not because you know you will get more respect from strangers for it.

The Runescape community has lost focus on making friends. Always be friendly, open-minded and patient when dealing with another player. It is gold worth and it will be rewarded. <3:

P.S. Making up statistics as many of you have doesn't prove your point, fellow tip.iters. Get back on topic there, please. :P

Actually, that is is the frowned-upon method, it's power-mining granite and iron that is considered the norm, just mentioning... [edit]just adding in that I don't disapprove of power-mining granite or iron, they are also wonderful methods, they just have a different focus.[/edit]

Some strive to mine gold for 99 Mining. It's a great method - if you want cash.

Anyways, People flame other People for one simple reason, Because they can. They have this unmistakeably immature attitude where they think they can do whatever they want. On this game, they are JAba1616, not Mark, or Jill. They reason, these people will know me for a second, it doesn't matter how I conduct myself, how I act. I can patronize them, I can insult them, I can say whatever I want, and they can't do a thing about it. If you want to truly see "what" a person is, give them animosity. Then they will show there true colors.

Then there is the other kind, most people were the first kind, but there are some who were like this too. Some of the peeps who would call you "pray n00bs" and "def n00bs" and so on. They were/are the kinds of people who want everything to go there way. They are spoiled into thinking that they are always right. They choose not to train defence, to save themselves combat levels. Yet when someone with defence beats them, instead of thinking, it's my loss, for not training defence, they think, it's all his fault, he trained defence. Sub-consciously, they end up brainwashing themselves into thinking that training defence, or prayer, is cheating. That it is not there choice into training defence, and so therefore, they shouldn't have trained it, and it is there fault.

And then comes the third kind. The kind that sees your accomplishments, your spoils of hard work and become jealous. Instead of feeling proud of there own work, there own spoils, they become jealous of others. They batter others, yell at them, flame them, calling them no-lifers, and fools, all to cover up there own insecurity's. Jealousy is like an pre-cooked piece of bacon. It looks like a simple solution, until you bite into it, and feel all the cold bacon fat, and grease, and you get disgusted on the spot. But you feel how disgusted it makes you feel, and hopefully you learn from it. This is the kind that it is easiest to break away from, because it is the easiest to realize you are doing.

Of course, this is just my two-cents worth on the subject. People may disagree if they wish. Thank you for taking the time to read it all.

This kind of thread gets me so depressed. Back in the day, everyone congratulated everyone on any achievement, big or small. That kind of respect has slowly dissapeared within the last few years, as more and more people have decided to treat the game as a chore - nothing else matters to some than getting their 99's these days. Of course, there are so many now who get impressive achievements, the unfortunate new players who are slowly working their way into the game are overwhelmed by the enormity of the game. They simply cannot break into the level of respect required to fit into the society without training for days upon end. And it disgusts me.

These days most people on tip.it seem to consider that a massive proportion of the newbs are just little kids...yes, maybe some of them are. But if you actually make the effort to appreciate that, not so long ago, you were a little kid too, working your way through to lvl 15 smithing, you realise the majority of them are probably perfectly pleasant people.

No, I have to say I quite agree. It's like you need a 99 to fit into the Runescape society.

I don't think it's as much of a lack of respect and admiration etc.

Think about it, back in the day when RuneScape first started.

People were amazed when you hit a 10, they were amazed if you had a rune2H.

It's still roughly the same thing, just on a bigger scale. RuneScape has evolved and it's economy has affected the rate of attainment of certain skills and objects.

Although I'd still agree that there are idiots who are only impressed by 99's and godswords.

Honor and pride.

Noone has it anymore it was lost along time ago. Players used to to pride in the way they achieved theit skill levels now it's just get it quick and fast whish is just pathetic because that makes you a game fame hunter and a lvl chaser which imo fail hardcore. You have no pride and your levels are just not honorable if you did it just for the speed and could careless if you enjoyed it or not. I know we we all joined for the fun of it but some people turned into lame level chasing fools who 'work' to get levels in Runescape. If you didn't have fun getting 99 then well you failed right there. Don't tell me you enjoyed chinngin monkeys for hours and hours. Some might but the majority don't. Also the people who train at bandits are just well wow sad. Why would u sacrific fun to just get a level? Ok everyone is gonna call me a hypocryt right about now but I did enjoy my 99's because I'm a very selective person. If I don't like it I barley will train it such as my fletching shows. If you have to power level such as ZMI,bandits, or monkeys well your just sad because you your not enjoying yourself and realy just threw the point of the game out the window of the Seer's Tower. I'm probably just rambling on now so I'll end it with my opnion to just rap this all up. Power trainers are sad noobs who just can't actually do anything for fun and just fail at runescape because they chase levels. I am friends with very few power levelers because if I am I'd end up flaming them for doing it and I just can't respect someone that rides the lifelong phail boat like they would.

EDIT: All this flame is jealously is a huge load. People flame because they are angry at you noone walks up to you and says GTFO nerd you have 99 slayer!!!!!! Most flame is originated from people saying something to someone that just ticks them off.

But what if you enjoy powerleveling? I know i would much rather chin then train ranged with a bow and arrow, as I can't stand how slow and boring it is.

However I do agree when you say they shouldn't do it if they don't enjoy it.

As I said the majority won't enjoy it but a few do. It's not more enjoying the XP I'm going towards but actually enjoying what your doing. I enjoy killing fire giants and I enjoy chinning mummies for XP is 2 different things. But I guess if you enjoy it all in all you turn out alright. I am more of a supporter of enjoying doing something over enjoying XP.

I agree with this. The journey to something is half the fun. If you just grind out your levels to eventually get to something you think you might like, then it shouldn't be too fun once you have gotten it.

Doing something you don't enjoy then expecting to enjoy the end result is flawed logic. Anyone who gets levels just to get levels, in my mind, has the iq of a dead turtle. The only difference between level 98 and 99 is just a number. A skillcape doesn't matter.

If you get a 99 stat just to get a skillcape then you obviously aren't doing it for yourself; you're doing it to show off to other people who you'll probably only see you that one time and will only respect you because you have a cool emote.

Personally, if I ever get a skillcape, I won't care to wear it. Sure, it's got good bonuses, but the fire cape would be better if I cared to get one. I would get a skillcape in a skill I like; a skill I don't care whether it is level 5 or level 99 so long as I can use the same method that I enjoy. I don't care that you think I'm a noob for not wearing/having a skillcape at level whatever. Personally, the only skillcape I need is the "I had fun and didn't play this game to grind levels and gain e-fame" cape

That post made little to no sense to me. How is say, camping at Abyssal Demons any more fun than powerlevelling at Bandits? It takes longer, meaning you will be in the same place for more time, and whip drops aren't exactly frequent. If anything I think people enjoy powerlevelling more because it allows you to enjoy the different aspects of the skill more quickly. In the end it (usually) boils down to this:

Powerlevellers get levels fast, others get money. How is earning fake money any more respectable than earning levels?

Even though my fingers itch to try and bust your opinion, Ill just try the opposite.

Yes, I agree on you that if you are leveling just for showing off, then it is indeed rather silly. I agree that the people value the cosmetic part of a player more then the actuall person behind it, and that that is bad. However, thats all that I really agree with you on.

Lets just say you need 99 ranged for some serious Darkbow specials in the new PvP, you just want that level so you can have lots of fun afterwards. In this case I would rather just grab chins and throw them at hordes of monkeys then to fetch a magic bow and some addy arrows and train slayer.

It is indeed considered 'unfair' if you have worked for something really hard, and someone had fun while doing stuff faster then you. But thats life, and its unfair. If you want to work and have no fun while playing a game, well, suit yourself.

I see two groups of people who get 99's. For examples sake I will call them the "Pker" and the "skiller" group.

For the skiller, it is all about the journey, training while chatting to friends and just taking it easy, valueing the journey over the achievement.

For the Pker, its all about the rewards afterwards, he just want to get the level fast, and then start using that to good use. But for him, the journey starts AFTER the level achievement. He is enjoying the journey, but the difference is that he enjoys the journey after he had worked for it.

Off topic: It for me is a mystery why someone would play so long for skills who tend to get boring quite fast, like your mining and runecrafting. But that still doesn't give me the reason to be the guy with an additude about it. If someone has fun while making runes, or if he has fun smashing abbysal demons, they both have fun. Lets just all be merry about it and lay down the axe.

Skillers and Pkers are the same in a way, they both want to have fun. Lets stop trying to withold eachother from having fun and just sing "Wind of Change" while not trying to ruin eachothers reputation, mood, or appearance.

Just FYI this isn't all directed at you MS. ::'

By the way, scratch all of that, stop pking and skilling, go to the world 7 cabbage patch, this is an unofficial advertisement of the Order of the Cabbage.
