  1. That means their browser was somehow corrupted. That usually doesn't happen unless some major extension install goes way awol, or something else gets in and clobbers something. However, it would appear whatever it was happened to be a temporary thing. :-k I wish your friend luck in having it not happen again. :-s ~D. V. "Best of Wishes..." Devnull
  2. It's LittleBoy we are talking about here, of course he did :twss: And I missed the joke, eh? Darn... I must fail at "funny detection" in some areas... -.- ... Oh well, at least I'll learn from this... And I can enjoy the laugh. [Edit: This image, by context, deals with RuneScape... Doesn't it? ...] Better yet, where did his avatar go? (Also, is that a tumbleweed I hear nearby?) :? ~D. V. "Gah..." Devnull
  3. Make it a really tiny part of fletching. Then yes, maybe I would support. I guess I could go for that... Just as long as it does not come with any kind of gp costs to have the arrows made... Why? Because the NPC is effectively getting the load of fletching exp, at least in a sense... :geek: ~D. V. "Works for me..." Devnull
  4. 11,116 Keep counting folks... I was only nuke-ing the person that messed up, because that's what I do... :D ~D. V. "Don't have a cow, man!" Devnull
  5. Both of those sound good to me... Hey, liv_2_kill, any chance we can get those added to the idea? :) ~D. V. "Yes! The added ideas arrive!" Devnull
  6. I'm a multitasker too... I guess my experience is due to the fact that the PCs I use are single-core systems, then... Because everything else I do doesn't use much CPU... But call up RuneScape alongside whatever I'm doing, and *WHAM*, instant 100% (even with hardware AA enabled on the faster one) CPU usage... Best I can figure is that it is being caused by the amount of RAM being eaten up (FireFox jumps near 256 MB!) for RuneScape, and the continuous processing going on to generate the image... For all I know, it may be corrected by upgrading the FireFox version... Bright side? At least I'm lag-free, for the most part... :-k ~D. V. "I hate being a RAM-hog..." Devnull
  7. Try telling that to a range-crazed newbie, fresh off tutorial island. I tried, didn't work. Why? They only have 25 gp to start with, and they didn't want to use that up, or go skilling. What would they have needed? Basic arrow-making, which is the one thing that places them in a worse position than basic mages/warriors... Further, not having the ability to make their own basic ammo in F2P makes them less inclined to go P2P... Why? Because they think, "If I can't even make ammo here, what's to say it would be any good to go P2P?", and therefore Jagex ends up minus a possible P2P customer. Seeing as the phrase "money makes the world go round" is true, it would therefore be in Jagex's best interest to provide basic ammunition-making capability for Rangers... That would ultimately entice more of those F2P (with possible inclination to go P2P) Rangers to go P2P... :ugeek: ~Mr. D. V. "Sometimes, you have to re-realize what is beneficial..." Devnull
  8. I'm always facing maximum CPU usage here, no matter how I play RuneScape. It doesn't matter if I have other programs running or not. Of course, I'm running on both an ancient 'Intel P4 @ 2.4 Ghz' (system which plays RS well) and/or an 'AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 2.0 Ghz' (some settings turned down, based on lag levels) based on time of day, and presence of certain family members... (Can't stop my dad from sitting down at the nicer PC, LOL!) ... Sure, they're not the best, but they're what we had the $$$ for in the past. :) However, a system that's only using 40% CPU for RuneScape? I'd love to know the specs on that computer, and what else is grabbing CPU at the time. It shouldn't be lagged on RS unless something is eating CPU that RS needs to function. :-s ~D. V. 9. SirHemen, as for clearing their Java Cache, they will find that by pulling up the "Java" Control Panel, and then in that to "General > Temporary Internet Files > Settings..." and there will be a "Delete Files..." option in the following dialog to clear the Java Cache with... :-s Also, I had already noticed they did a simple uninstall/reinstall and simple antivirus/antispyware scans... But did they run any antivirus/antispyware scans specifically during the time that Java was not installed? Again, there are viruses that can hide underneath Java, but are exposed and killable while Java is not installed... So, if clearing the cache as described above does not work, then do the following... [*:1bykk08w]Uninstall Java... [*:1bykk08w]Reboot... [*:1bykk08w]Run AntiVirus/AntiSpyware Scans... (If there is anything that's been hiding under Java, this step should catch it.) [*:1bykk08w]Reboot again... (Best to clear RAM after that previous step... Don't be haphazard.) [*:1bykk08w]Reinstall Java... [*:1bykk08w]Reboot one last time... (Java won't work otherwise... BTW, Java might have you do this step anyway, don't forget to do it if it prompts you.) [*:1bykk08w]Try RuneScape again... If by this point, it is still not working, please tell us... :geek: ~D. V. "Is that any more clear?" Devnull [Slight edits by author for context clarity, and to add this note...]
  10. Wow. Just WOW. Some of the best, highest quality wallpapers I've ever seen. Now if only that site would not go trimming off image parts just to fit the dimensions you're asking for. I'd prefer a full download at the requested dimensions that I can tweak myself. :( ~D. V. "Smaller = Not better, in this case..." Devnull
  11. This was the wrong forum to post this... I'm going to request a move to Tech&Computers so that you can get better help with this... :geek: BTW, did you try clearing your Java/Browser caches? :-s ~D. V. "T&C will have people who can really help..." Devnull
  12. Sounds like a virus hiding beneath Java (which has happened before, I do remember) and breaking anything that uses Java... Have your friend uninstall Java, then run a scan... Hopefully, they'll find whatever is doing it... Either way, they can reinstall Java afterward, but at least we will then know better as to what is going on... :geek: Before they do that, however, have they cleared their Java/Browser caches? Have they rebooted between uninstall/install stages? Sadly, Java doesn't work after uninstall without a reboot before the reinstall and a reboot after... :? ~D. V. "This problem is going to get fixed... ..." Devnull
  13. Here's a link to the other thread, so that other users can see it... :geek: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=767971 ~Mr. "Have a nice day." Devnull
  14. I would have to say that giving enough fletching for 'full F2P self-sufficiency' would be a bad idea... However, being allowed to make bronze and/or iron arrows (but not any bows) would permanently handle the range-training needs of F2P... Anything more, and those who wish to squash this would then be right about it being bad, but not before that point... :geek: So, I'll support, but only for just allowing bronze and/or iron arrows. NOTHING MORE. :shame: ~D. V. "A micro-amount is needed for F2P, but nothing more." Devnull
  15. I am somewhat sure that some [bleep] at Jagex just messed up the map... What a dent, though... Have you tried the HD rendering modes? If so, does it also show there? :geek: ~Mr. "Dang, that's mysterious..." Devnull
  16. littleboy, I see one major problem in the image... Try making only the black text that is on top of the dark gray a brighter color... Some choices for an alternate color would be orange, light green, yellow, or white... What you choose will depend on your idea of what works best... Good luck to you on making a greatly-improved 2nd version... \ ~D. V. "Errors can be fixed." Devnull
  17. SirHemen, have they checked their hosts file? Also, could you get a HJT log from them, which we could look at? Also, what real-time privacy/protection software are they currently running? ~Mr. D. V. "Man, I've got a lot of questions right now..." Devnull
  18. famfrit007, we understand that you want your friend on RuneScape... However, it is not a good idea to go around someone's parents in order to do something... All it does it result in tighter restrictions, distrust, and ultimately a lot of unwanted hurt... Further, I have to figure that your friend did something bad at home, and now they're "paying" for what they did... Until they show their parents that they shouldn't be blocked, it is just something that you (and therefore the rest of us) will have to live with. :( As a side note... If your friend's parents are truthfully not blocking your friend, and your friend is still unable to connect, then please let us know. That is the only condition under which we may look into helping you. (Although that may mean that the ISP which your friend's parents are using is up to something awful. Check the ISP's TOS for your friend about gaming also...) :geek: ~Mr. "There are just some things we are not allowed to help with legally." Devnull (p.s. to everyone else: Yes, I know I'm re-echoing a bit, but I thought a softer version might be nice.)
  19. Sorry, but that does not work for the tons of people who can't download game clients and use them, due to parental restrictions on what they can do... :boohoo: So having a small portion of such a thing as alternate cooking methods for fish in RuneScape would be nice for f2p... Further, it would leave more than enough to entice F2P players into paying and going P2P... Even you should be able to realize that Jagex can think a lot up and leave only a small portion open to F2P, right??? :geek: ~Mr. D. V. "Think about what you say before you say it." Devnull
  20. <*DVD hears a buzzer go off overhead...*> Can't believe it... Yet another who would mess the count up? :wall: That's it... <*DVD pulls out Valkirimedira, his Grand Paladin Fighter Bow... He then unleashes a plethora of varied attacks (whose names escape DVD at the moment) upon ileikmudkipz... This leaves ileikmudkipz looking like a very small splat on the floor, with several craters around them.*> Anyone else wanna blow the count?!?!?!?!? :ugeek: Now... where were we? Oh, yeah... Now I remember... 11,120 BTW, new page. 8-) ~Mr. D. V. "KA-BOOM!" Devnull
  21. I decided to step out for a page. Wanted to lurk and see if anyone would be so dense as to blow it. Glad to see no one got off-track. 8-) 11,138 ~D. V. "I vacationed from this thread..." Devnull
  22. To be perfectly honest, I don't think that most of the pictures I saw on those sites deserve recognition. Hmm... I guess that depends on how much a person likes CGI imagery... And to be reminded of what is real and what is not... Oh well, to each their own on this one. \ ~D. V. "So I like CGI... Go figure." Devnull
  23. im1knight, apparently no one has mentioned this, but you really need to back up your whole PC before continuing with any of this. No matter how safe-for-a-PC that your partition program says it is, there is always a chance that it can foul something up rather badly, requiring a full restore of everything. I have seen this happen to many people, not the least of which was one of my own family. I would rather that problem didn't happen to you, at least not without having recovery options. :geek: ~D. V. "The backup is always important." Devnull
  24. Deathmath, here's four more, all of which I'm surprised that no one mentioned... MacDesktops.com (http://macdesktops.com/) Visual Paradox (http://www.visualparadox.com/) Digital Blasphemy's Free Section (http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/freegallery.shtml) Dual Monitor Backgrounds (http://www.dualmonitorbackgrounds.com/) I hope they all help you. I've had tons of different wallpapers on my various desktop layouts, thanks to them. ~Mr. D. V. "wallpapers galore" Devnull
  25. Those mice without middle and/or right buttons won't die until Apple kills them off. <*remembers the mac mice and the horrible design*> If they have died already, please tell me... I'd like to have no more nightmares with them. So, where would everyone want to place that toggle switch in the UCP? Global Settings? Display Options? Input, please? :anxious: ~D. V. "You'll find me running away from mice that lack two buttons minimum..." Devnull
