  1. Taking life is inevitable consequence of our position in the food chain. There are some that developed their own morals enough to oppose that, but the fact is that in general, that is way of the biological world. So yes, I'll eat animals and wear their fur (so long as it's not an endangered species). However, I've never actually killed an animal, unless you count ants, mice and flies...
  2. I've decided to look at this situation by comparing it to other conflicts in the past. In other words, other revolutions of political change. When we look at the British Civil War, we see that it actually lasts a lot longer, and was bubbling under the surface long before Oliver Cromwell came along. The Gunpowder Plot would be an example of this. The French, British, even the American revolutions to the Republic form of government all happened over a prolonged period of time - it was only the wars that lasted a few years. But perhaps quintessentially, they all happened without the presence of a foreign occupying force. There are cases where revolutions have happened in the presence of foreign forces, but in these cases, those forces were just assimilated into the new country's culture, and people forgot they even existed because they were too busy fighting each other. I then look at the situation in Iraq. We see us saying, "We're gonna bring about a whole U-turn of political change, without a revolution and with our presence there to protect the people of Iraq", then I look at the cases above, and I begin to think all is hopeless. I want to point two facts here: A) You cannot undergo political change on the scale of this without revolution. B) Revolution oftens entails Civil War, and usually with religion getting involved in support of opposing political and economic ideologies. The Protestant, capitalism-supporting church versus the Catholic, feudalism-driven church in Britain would be an example. The fact is, Iraq isn't getting better. There are more attacks now than there ever was, and the situation has never been better since April 2003 than it was under Saddam Hussein. In fact, the country's stability has never been in a state of "Improving" since the declaration of war. So, I'm puzzled where people get this idea that our presence there is a good thing... Iraq has just lost its dictator, and the people are consciencously moving towards a system of democracy. However, they're not ready for it yet. Democracy manifests itself from the will of the people when they feel ready for it - not when the pro-Democracy Western World feels it's better for them. Iraq will makes its own mind up as to when it wants a democracy, but it's clear from all the violence there that it's simply not ready for that yet. Therefore, we need to withdraw from the country, and allow Iraq to undergo its own revolution. We have no right, nor any power, to dictate over their timeline. This will be bloody and will take decades, yes, but it's the best thing for them in the long-term. I just cannot see any purpose in staying there any longer. Also, I just really wanna blast someone to pieces here: I'll agree. Civil War would be a inevitable. However, what gives you the right to stay inside the country as an occupying force, just because an Islamist extreme group might get into power? Also, what evidence is there to say that terrorism would be worse? If there is such evidence, then I for one would certainly dismiss it straight away, saying it's actually your actions which have alienated many young muslims into terrorism, not the work of al-Queda or other extremist groups. Secondly, who are you to decide what's best for their sake? I'm strongly of the belief that revolution (and if it Civil War is involved in that, so be it) is the best thing for them. In fact, I wouldn't actually regard that as debatable. So basically, you're not thinking about what's best for them, since most of them want you out. You're actually thinking of exclusively what's best for you. It's this arrogant and selfish attitude many people dislike about Americans who talk making the situation better for Iraqis.
  3. Fair enough, that's a point I agree with you on. I can't see how you can have a relationship over the Internet and not when you're meeting in real life either. There are some that would disagree with me, but I speak from personal experience when I met this girl on holiday, and we lived hundreds of miles apart... I'm sure you can figure that story for yourself. However, I was more making a point about the emotional side of relationships, not just refering to those who want to have one as a kind of 'trophy'. The title itself I believe is misleading, there are many intelligent and deeply philosophical posts in there; a lot more of those posts than "I want a GF" posts, put it that way! And yes, I believe its main purpose is to help people rather than serve as a billboard for a dating site. I don't actually say it's a RS-related forum. I was quite careful with my choice of words there. I said that Tip.It inevitably and rightly attracts players who play RS. Random people don't find the OT board by themselves - they find it by joining Tip.It Forums as a RS player. Now, with a game like RS (or any game for that matter), an audience of inarticulate children will be attracted, and there's nothing that can be done about that. And the chances are, children who can't articulate themselves won't usually turn to a place like Tip.It for a deep discussion about their personal problems anyway. I never actually said that. I said it's harder to empathise, I didn't say it was impossible to understand the situation. In fact I said the opposite. I can understand where you're coming from, and I agree - there is a lot more spam on the OT board than there is in other boards. But your examples and analysis are wrong IMO. The fact is, people misunderstand the word "Off-topic" to mean "irrelevant" or "unmoderated", and thus the OT board will always have more than its fair share of spam. I'm not flaming you, or disagreeing with you, but I'm intrigued to know if you can think of a solution.
  4. OK, the Real Life pictures I think we'll all agree with, but I'm not with you on the other points. What's wrong with someone asking for relationship advice on Tip.It? I'm well aware that there are other, better, sources of information regarding friendships and sexual relationships, but if the user doesn't feel comfortable in talking to a Real Life councellor or in asking questions they'll never see OR talk to ever again, then maybe talking to friends on the Tip.It community is actually the best thing for them. I wouldn't recommend going there, but for some people it's actually the best thing for them, and while I understand Tip.It isn't designed for such discussion, I'm not gonna label it as personal information that needs to clamped down on. As for your family argument, well I dont agree with you there for the same reasons. Just because someone lives over an Internet Connection doesn't make it an impossibility to gain help from that person. It just makes it harder since you can't read the other person's body language, which is where most of the communication in human behaviour lies. In times like this, I'd rather help that person than turn them away due to "personal information". I'd be pretty bad at my hopeful career if I didn't... If you want intelligent discussion, then pick up a newspaper, or go on a News Station's website. They almost all have forums now, with people literally gagging to debate things. Unfortunetely, a game such as RS will always have its fair share of kids, and these kids will lack the emotional and mental capacity to articulate their feelings into an argument, and to analyse a problem rather than just state what a problem is. I don't think there's much the Mods can do about that, unless you suggest a Nazi-style clamp down on each and every post that doesn't have a strong point to it.
  5. DISCLAIMER: Any views I express are my own, and not representative of Tip.It staff in any way! While I agree that your question isn't disrespectful, I'm still with pokemama on this one. Who are you, I, or anyone on these forums to tell Silverion how to run this site? If you can do a better job, then please go ahead and make a fansite of your own, and maybe you'd understand how hard it is to keep a website with 160,000+ members operating on nothing but advertisement revenue. Then I, or possibly even Silverion, may have more time to debate that question. I can't understand where you get the impression you have a right to ask that question - Tip.It isn't run by a Republic. I could get into a fine philosophical debate on this, but I shan't. Why does a surgeon put himself through 14 years of training, if there's other surgeons out there, and it's not financially viable during university, and it causes stress? Why am I intending to do the same thing to train as a General Practioner? I'll tell you why... because the end result of being able to look back and say both "I've achieved something truly great", and "I've helped someone today" is the warmest feeling in the world. If you can't understand that, then don't persue a career in public services. Then why don't you go and use them? Seriously, if you're so unappreciative of the work of all the Tip.it staff, especially the first Admins, then why don't you go to those others? As a Tip.Iter, I obviously don't want you to go, but I'm puzzled as to why you're kicking up a stink here, instead of "walking with your feet". And I'm questioning the counter - is it appropriate that both the userbase pays nothing (which it did anyway, just with a few ads), and that the site's owners pay everything? Is that really fair? Considering the userbase doesn't actually have to pay anything, and only has to put up with with a few ads. Well, isn't that the same as Free-To-Air television (apart from the BBC)? I'm intrigued. If the userbase shouldn't pay for usng a site which provides them with a service, who should pay for the site's maintenance and development? As pokemama said, I'm just truly thankful Silverion made this site in the first place, and then showed the perseverence and determination to make it into arguably the best RS fansite out there. Working fr them on the Crew isn't something which is just 'nice' for me to do - it's actually an honour for all the help Tip.It has provided me and my RS friends over the 18 months we've played the game. You have no right to ask these questions. Neither do I, or anyone on these forums apart from the Admins themselves. I'm sorry to amek this sound like an autocracy, but you really don't have much space to question the decisions of Admins whom have worked on this site for six years...
  6. Do you live in the UK? Is so, then go their Nintendo of Eruope website, and contact the warehouse by email or by phone. They will usually take it in, free of charge, and will replace it for a knocked down price. My DS smashed after it fell off my high bed. It was obviously irreparable, but they offered to replace it for just ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã32, which I thought was really good, considering that's less than a third of its original price. EDIT: I just saw your location. I would presume Nintendo of America (I think they serve you) would operate a similar policy.
  7. Government grants have been going around since the 1950s/60s. Unless you're over 50 (which, being on this forum I highly doubt), you're wrong. Owww... so that money I've been eating into was my bonus... woops. #-o
  8. Yey! I can now talk about Pok̮̩̉̉mon in-game now! Just a thought though... what about censor-bypassing. This doesn't exactly do wonders for it does it now...
  9. I really don't think that the issue is the avaliability of RS gold, or the fact it's hard to gain in RS, or economics. To understand why people buy RS Gold, you have to tap into their thoughts. The problem with RS Gold sellings, just like all competitive gameplay, is that there will always be poeple who can't be bothered putting in the effort and maintaining their integrity, and would rather just cheat their way through, because it's just so much easier than doing it the other way. I frequently refer to PokÃÆÃâÃâémon when talking about this issue. There are lots of people who use Action Replay in order to produce their perfectly-stated PokÃÆÃâÃâémon (sometimes even impossible stats), and then there are a seeming minority of us that go through the whole process of breeding, hatching eggs and waiting, because we don't want to give up, cheat, and lose that feeling of accomplishment. There wouldn't normally be a problem with that if the two parties stayed apart - unfortunetely it's now an inevitability that the two will meet on online gameplay, and there's no safeguards to protect the honest players, who will undoubtedly be at an unfair disadvantage to the cheats. To think that this is an RS-exclusive issue is naÃÆÃâÃâïve. Sure, RS Gold may be an RS-exclusive issue, but cheating in games most certainly isn't, and if you want to be able to a play a game without fear of other people cheating, then you have to change gamers' attitudes. In other words, you have to get it somehow into people's heads that using software such as Action Replay and GameShark, and using RS Gold sites is wrong. To do that, gaming companies collectively (and i'm sorry to say Jagex, but your fansites as well) are going to have constantly indoctrinate this message. Thinking that the solution to this is for Jagex to start selling RS gold is just stupid really...

I played Verticle - it's noticeable how the same lag appears on that game as appears on RS... is that a problem with my computer/Internet connection too? :-k
  11. I'll look into this. If someone else could varify this info and PM me, I'd be happy. :) In future though, please use the "Submit Correction" on its Bestiary entry, or use the appropriate thread in this board, which is currently in the "Temp Archive-Website Updates & Corrections" sub-board. Thanks, ~Ginger Warrior
  12. The Forum moderators are only staff to Jagex in the same way I'm a member of staff to Tip.It. I'm not employed by Tip.It, and they're not employed by Jagex. Both are purely voluntary roles...
  13. Ask if everyone is fricking 5 here. I dare you...It's the equivalent of telling everyone on the RuneScape boards that WoW is better I think he's confusing the games with the show. If you still watch pokeman, then you're one of those little farts who are messing up Runescape. Change your diaper, I can smell it from here... The games, on the other hand, will never get old...well, actually...they wouldn't have gotten old. But Nintendo decided to kill it and bury it. They shoulda stopped after ruby/sapphire. those were Sw33t =)) I never liked naming pokemon, cause i'd end up with something stupid. Wehn I had Yellow version, the first thing I caught was a nidoran. It's only move was tackle. So I named it tackle. Only I typo'd and named it tackel. Pronounced tok-el. Funniest part was, he became my best guy, and when he was lvl 80 or something, my pikachu that I started with was lvl 12 =) He works on Tip.It as a crewbie, yet he's messing up RuneScape? Strange logic... :-k
  14. This is laughable... seriously. As well as racist in parts. Eh? Give me a link of an incident where anyone in Guantanamo Bay has beheaded anyone, let alone a US citizen... You don't know how wrong you are there. Here you are, saying they're this horrid, cruel group; and yet you're happily admitting to wanting to do exactly the same back to them. Also, if America wants to go about the world as the self-proclaimed "Leader of the Free World", then it has to accept it can't use such punishment techniques, or else it's hypocritical to its own cause. I'd actually more trust an academic that's been through military academy as a leader to wage a war in Washington, than a rookie leader in Iraq. Just because the soldier fights, doesn't mean he knows how to conduct a war. This is the racist part BTW. To label all extremists as 'Barbarians'. If they are though, it shows how bad your army's performing... I believe I've addressed this issue. To use such methods would make the US hypocritical, as if it needs to be anymore so. How would you know? You destroyed their justice system before they even had a chance to. Also, again, give me an example of a time where the Imperial Guard actually beheaded any Coalition soldier? Right... so you've refused to take any advice off the people who's job it is to analyse the situation, and you've refused to take in any of the messages the journalists in Iraq are sending out about this war... but you'll happily accept a soldier's viewpoint? I'm not saying his viewpoint isn't valid, but you can't exclusively accept his viewpoint, and then have the ignorance to shut out everything else, just because it doesn't fit with your argument. Frankly, that post was laughable, and at times, bordering on racism...
  15. As someone who was always cursed with this problem (it's not my fault I was more intelligent than anyone in my school...), I would suggest telling the teacher of the plagairism before (s)he gives the marks back. That way, your story's credible. Also, ask her/him to cover it up by saying not metnioning that you grassed him. Then you just gotta act in front opf the guy that copied you. Problem solved. He should believe you. I know it's awkward, but you just gotta learn to say, "No" to these peeps. It doesn't do them any good in the future either - they end up getting into jobs/courses that they can't deal with.
  16. Did you know... Doe to fact they can't be sold, Defenders are worthless, and will be lost in the Wilderness if it's not in the items saved limit...
  17. IMO, the solution to this is to have all Slayer Monsters give reduced amounts of exp outside of Slayer tasks. That way, maybe people would start gaining personal experience in combat, instead of levelling up to Level 100 at PC, watching YouTube videos and whining on here when they get killed by Jad through purely a lack of personal experience.
  18. Technically speaking I am a bastard (in its literal sense), and my parents never got married, so it would kinda hypocritical for me to make an issue out of it. I don't get what's wrong with it.
  19. Can someone give me a link for this release date? 'Coz I've checked everywhere - the official SSBB site, and the Nintendo of Europe site (but then again they couldn't run a site if their lives depended on it... and there's no info anywhere, just "TBD".
  20. Well this is me saying this but most likely 99% of the people here will agree with it... If you had a 99...Why in your right mind would you NOT want to buy a skill cape lol. Unless your F2p of course...Or if for some extremely outrageous reason you spend every last penny you have on a 99 skill then are too lazy to earn a measly 99k just to buy a skill cape and quit right there on the spot... Not likely though :D Um... autoers that get 99 in something wouldn't... :|
  21. They do this because they simply haven't got the patience or the skill to do it the long and normal way, so in frustration, they decide to cheat others off their stuff in order to get to whatever they want faster. TBH, I regard this kind of attitude not too different to people who buy a game, and then before they've even played the game, stick on Action Replay and finish the whole game in God Mode, just on a different level and without any care for the victim's emotions. I find both of these kinds of people truly pathetic, and sooner or later they'll learn that there's no easy way to accomplish whatever you set out to achieve in life.
  22. LOL, what, you mean the way you can actually vaguely relate that game to how you would act in real-life. I dunno about you, but I don't go about spending ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30,000,000 on a piece of paper... Unfortunetely though, Jagex have decided that's not the audience they wanna attract. Jagex has decided to take this down the family route, so it makes sense to have safeguards for young children.
  23. I was (still am) a member of NoE's forums, and we all paniced when they announced they were gonna release the Revolution (as it was then) the same time as the PS3. Of course, PS3 set the date back, but we were proved wrong by the pathetic start to the PS3's sales, and the fact the Wii's the fastest selling console of them all. So yeah, why not? I'm up for taking on the Xbox now! Are Nintendo really gonna get millions of copies distributed in the EU from Japan by September though? You'd have to say, "No".
  24. New Super Mario Bros. on the DS? I'll agree, the sports ones (possibly with the exception of the new football one on the Wii) are rubbish, but let's not be too harsh here. Super Mario Galaxy looks amazing. I watched a video of it on GameSpot, and it looked cool!
