  1. Errrrrm...... intresting how you possibly effected the economy there..... but is this really a questioner / poll? Correct me if I'm wrong! Very interesting to see a blank area right in the middle of the park though.
  2. Just because they happen to post on a fan site who's chat you where using does not not mean they should not report you..... the report system for that rule is if a player is finding your actions offensive or disruptive, obviously sombody found you repeatedly saying moo a tad annoying, and reported you for it.... what fan site they use should make no difference. Just be glad that 0.2black marks is just a tiny slap on the wrist Welcome back! nice to see the real rule breaker got their punishment :)
  3. It's difficult to guess.... but sadly I think there is a degree of correctness in what you say. I fully support Jagex in their plight against the real world trading operations, and I expect that other companies such as Blizzard are paying close attention to it's results, but I just hope Jagex do not fall even more into the trap of destroying the game play in the process. The duel arena update, whilst understandable from one view point..... from the more obvious ones it was a large error. It is possible that the two pvp minigames this week will appear very important to the old stakers, and soften the blow for them alot.... but they should have never destroyed such a valuable aspect of the game. personalty for me.... as a non player killing player, who's in no clan, and does not intend in dieing, this months updates aren't all that appealing, but I am keeping a close eye on what they are doing, and how it will effect others..... I think this.... whilst not the best ... may turn out to be one of the most important months in relation to the future sucsess of the game from some player views.
  4. The fact is bots are constantly evolving, and become harder to spot. I think Jagex have noticed this trend and are taking the correct steps towards it. Rather than focusing on the banning of bots which are free, and easy to replace in a very short time period they are trying to take away their business. Destroying their websites Banning their customers Stopping their methods of transferring gold Sadly bots are not the issue...... it's what the bots are doing. I will be very interested when the ICU development diary comes out this month looking at the bot issue, I am also very surprised as it seems to be the first major Games company to publicly acknowledge the gold farming issue.
  5. I love the Mechscape logo, it will lend it's self very well to animation, and the typeface/composition should reflect the games feel very well. there is no doubt that the Runescape logo is dated, as it;s a bit of computer design thats many years old, there is very few bits of design from that time that have stood up to progress. I would expect a revamp of it one day, but it will be based on the existing one probably so would be very limited. Although.... the runescape logo is better than some current well known logos..... Cough cough [hide=hidden for uglyness] [/hide]
  6. Away from the direct reason Jagex have given, another major reason why the restraints are there (although I doubt Jagex would ever say) is a concern a brought up before the release of the exchange.... money laundering! where basically a "customer" would put up a worthless item at say 1million GP which then a gold farmer would put a bid on it thus transferring the money to the customer without having to meet, and advantaging them. So from that angle I believe some limitations are needed, although I would say that 5% is too restrictive. Sadly this games population is lazy, and a huge number of people will put up their item at the lowest amount so the sell quicker...... it's only 5% less.... they can cope with it.... Due to this the economy is currently looking at a quite large price drop in most items (probably temporary). the issue is that 5% is too easy..... if the boundary where to be bigger (say 10%) allot more people would come away from selling at the lowest figure, due to that the economy would be more free..... AND probably more stable. I personally would move the boundary anywhere between 7% and 15% although probably no higher. I am interested to see what happens when a new desirable item is reduced, and if the boundaries are initially placed on the items... or if they leave it totally free for several days.
  7. I would guess that it could be part of the cave network as seen in that quest with the portal to the chaos alter (forgot the name) so possibly more portals?
  8. The prices do seem to be correcting quite quickly.... for example when I prist price dragon bones they where at over 2k each which i was not going to pay, but a few hours later i piced them up for 1,550 each which was what i was actually after
  9. To be honest with you, I think you just missed the chances to learn from your mistakes. At the end of the day the things you where musted for and received previous offences for are all censored, so if you where to say it as a slip of the tongue it would have been censored, however you must have made the desission knowing that something is not to be said (as it's censored) changed the spelling to avoid the censor.... which is not really appropriate now is it? I am not going to get into a debate over severity of punishments, but really you should have taken previous experience to learn what is and what is not acceptable.
  10. Speaking on behalf of the ROSF team, the RSC forums have been truned up to player who do not play classic, there was a thread at the top of the forums that has been there since march (or april) asking people to sign up if they want to have assess to the forums, as such we believed that all player who used the forums had plenty of time to notice it. If you are an active RSC player and want access to them again make sure you can log into classic and is you can send a message to jagex for the attention of the forum curator team, who will be able to help. This change was asked for allot by RSC players who where fed up of misplaced trades, insults and people not able to read the very clear stickies explaining why they can't log into classic. as such we have protected the community. Just so you don't worry though.... they are not neglected by moderators as we have access to them for moderation reasons (not a benefit, strictly so we can help)
  11. Very risky..... summing it up. Although having said that it is not something I am totally against, but it is very risky! I have some friends in this game I know have met up in real life, and good for them :) they are great friends and I trust both of them very well, but never the less on an online environment it is very risky. (am I saying very risky too much?) Basically I think it comes down to the maturity of the people doing it, and their ability to spot danger coming (worst case scenario) it is defiantly not something I would recomend sombody to do , and would actually recomend not too...... but it's not such a bad thing.... very risky though...
  12. I have never staked.... pked... or player killed anywhere outside of Cwars/fight pits. But I do agree Jagex have made a mistake here, stakers tend to only stake.... it's all they do, and now the 3k gp limit has destroyed it's apeal. I have a suggestion to fix the issue in a way that will respect their reason for capping it, whilst keeping it open. Although I plan to not mention it till i funny understand how the system works (I don't feel like looking like a fool if wrong :P) Riots however solve nothing, and I hope nobody supports the riots, feel free to support the motivation behind it, but not the actual riot.
  13. Jagex has created this environment by making rules that prohibit new account signups by pre-teens, while not taking any practical actions to stop it. They have also refused to clearly tell the community that pre-teens who had accounts before that rule have effectively been "grandfathered". And *I* would point out that this is another area where Jagex pays lip service to the matter. If they really didn't want people under 18 registering without permission, they could implement appropriate systems. But this would cut down on their income and member totals, and with Jagex pretty much everything comes second to money. They care about player safety to a certain extent. Specifically, they care about it only so far as it doesn't impact their bottom line. But they are NOT serious about it. If they were, there is SO much more that they could do. I'm sure that they do address the really serious issues, but the rest they only pay lip service to, or make a token effort. They refuse to make any structural changes to their business model to improve online safety or to effectively block children from the game. And again, what's worse is that they happily target kids with ads and marketing campaigns intended to draw them in. You should really stop spending so much time with Jagex apologetics and look at the issue more objectively. Why are they marketing at pre-teens? Personally I don't feel they are, As a game Runescape is set up to work on lowend PC's and poor Internet speeds, as such most of the user base will be the younger end of the market and people who are new to the MMORPG world. this is reflected in the graphics style and computer requirements. As such I don't feel that it's preteens it's aimed at.... more the younger end of the user base of online gaming markets (admittedly they overlap). Now interms of story lines and content, I honestly believe that they are making what they are like to play (20-40 year olds) and tone the game primarily to their tastes. I base this opinion from talking to several members of the content team at some point or another. I think allot of people who work in the gaming world do end up having a sense of humor/fun that could be read as young. As for the book I agree with youit is not something they should have I seem to remember from talks at the time player found it that Paul, mod Mark, and one of the Mod James's all contributed to the information in the book and provided graphics. However the book is owned written and produced by a separate company, I can't find the original publishing date easily online but seem to remember it being before the law governing personal information from under 13's was introduced, as such at the time of it's was perfectly fine. From a personal view point the 13+ law is too old and I would argue (some other time) along with many psychologists that there is no reason why younger children of the age of 8,9,10, or 11 are not capable of making adult decisions, although the law is the law and needs to be respected until changed... I don't know how much power Jagex will have over getting the book recalled however as they will be under license agreements with the author and published, as such it probably cannot be forced down for another 5 or 6 years. so it is very possible that it is out of their control. I know that you have a book of your own (it's huge!) out there, and so hope that you know more about this subject than I do (currently), although any deals you may be in could well be totally different, I would suggest that is it Scholastic that you need to take up a complaint with on the subject of the book and not Jagex. Getting back to this case study, it is truly saddening to see some of the terrible comments that this subject has brought, although to some degree I am glad they are there as it will show others how these insensitive people are in the community, and that this is a real issue. I would hope that these people read the reaction that their comments have made and rethink their own position. From a personal point I know first hand that words can hurt, during my school years I was bullied my self, and it was a bad time. Although I never went anywhere near doing anything about it, like most victims "ending it all" was an option on the table. It is obviously very bad that people think in this was, and I am sad that I once did, but it is definably not uncommon. Most people are just not able to solve the issues that are effecting them, I was lucky and managed to teach my self, and have passed on my help to others. but it is not there for most people. I have no reason to believe that the bullies meant any personal harm, and where only doing it as it made them look good in front of their friends, but words do indeed hurt. Back on topic again: I am sadend that you still feel that Jagex are money centered, and yes my position of moderator has lead to my view points.... but not for the reasons you think. I personally am very critical of Jagex in some key areas and try to approach them sensibly but caring for the community is just not one of them. I have seen a side to Jagex that allot of players don't see, I see their personal side, and honestly...... they do care. They are all part of the team, and they are all them selves gamers and know what they would expect as a customer. Like Fey I ant discuss cases, but every time I have brought a situation to they sight they are very good at reacting to it. They will take any situation where it seems a player is in trouble and stay with it till they believe it is resolved. I think whilst you are very good at spotting the bad aspects of Jagex, occasionally as you have not had a high level of contact with the company means in subjects like "do they care" you cant be in full control of the facts.
  14. Ok I was with you until the "sound familiar" section but I will talk about that later. First of all thanks for posting this, I hope it will reach a few of the tip.it community members who are obnoxious to the effects their actions can have. Sadly you have hit the nail on the head... people cant understand that this is not just a game.... it is a game in the real world. This is not like tomb raider where we run around killing tigers and occasionally through insults in the direction of the screen.... this is the real world with real people. There is no difference between saying offensive things here than their would be in sending offensive letters in your community. coming back to the sound familiar section: I think Myspace let down their community, I personally won't use it as it has drastically moved away from it's intention. It sadly draws huge negative attention and seems incapable of managing it's user base. I once have a myspace account.... know how many friends requests i got that where in breach of the sexual content rule? I think however it is an issue that Jagex are very good at, apart form the 13+ rule which is virtually impossible to keep (although they do take action when there is evidence). The report function is our friend, sadly allot of people won't use it as they think it's "grassing somebody up" or they wont use it as the player might get banned for breaking a rule.... Well heres the thing..... JAGEX CARE if you bring abuse to their attention they will investigate and take any action that will help, but they need to know about it first. If you are being bullied in game you need to tell Jagex either through the report function or through a query. if you see another player being abused report them.... even if it's not you being abused. Jagex need to know so they can prevent disasters like the described one. If you know a friend or anybody in game who is suffering from abuse it is your responsibility to help. this is a community game, try to act like one. everything we do and say can effect somebody... I try my best to see that effect is a good one. On another note I think you are taking that handbook thing a bit far... i have seen you mention it before. From what I understand whilst it is an official handbook, apart from providing a bit of information it is not actually under direct control of Jagex, as is made and produced under license. (I also think it predates the 13+ laws existence) Thanks for the article though
  15. I'm just wondering about people who got attacked by this ad..... Where you using any 3rd party client like SS or Leetscape? and was it just on f2p worlds or also on the main page? I am kinda interest also, did anybody manage to find the source of the virus from your anti virus program etc?
  16. Oooo nice map! I will stick that up in a sec! just wanna see if i can work out how old it is first :P
  17. I believe they plan for some small java 2d games like you can find on their old site, or most other online games companies.... a while back they where advertising for 2d game designers on the corporate site.... I don't expect more than one mmorpg..... that would be far to risky.
  18. Personally i still think the Internet and gaming as a whole is too new to be judged as far as who can do what. I have some adult friends in this game who do get their children to play (and yes.... they are actually 5 years old :P), it's an aspect of the terms and conditions often misunderstood. Basically a person under the age of 13 cannot legally own an account (this is legal reasons not just Jagex having rules) but they can still play WITH a parent, it must be the Adults account, and the adult pressing the buttons..... but the child can be there helping and directing. I know my friend finds it a good way of bonding with his dad, and in fact even though he is only 5..... was apparently very helpful on knowing what to do in some master quests. I personally think for the majority of people online gaming is a positive thing in their life, not so much short term.... but long term. It teaches us allot.... for me it made a massive improvement on my ability to read write type and spell (I'm dyslexic). There are some people who cannot deal with the game, and it begins to take over their life.... obviously this is an issue but I personally would place this blame on the parents and their social environment, not Jagex. At one point.... my life was pretty bad and I was in the situation where I played far too much.... but this was not the fault of the game.... If it was not this game I would have done exactly the same somewhere else.... the fact is I was unable to deal with life effectively due to my real world surroundings. There are two types of game, single player and multiplayer. It is my view that multiplayer games can offer huge life long changes to who a person is.... and on the whole it would be for the better. This game allows people to learn social skills, it's and odd way to look at it, but this game is educational.... not in knowledge but life. Of course thats one sided, we have the abusive members of the community who's presence can cause real long term damage to the individuals playing if they cannot correctly process what they are experiencing. You can look at being scammed two ways.... "Humanity sucks.... I hate you all" "darn... lets not do that again!" Which path we follow is very important as to how the game effects you, but again I would bring this back to upbringing as to how a person reacts. I feel everything can relate to how a person was brought up, on the whole for most people an online game should be a perspective effect on life, but we cant take this for gaunted
  19. 1. Why are bone c bow so popular now? I see they hit faster than rune c bow, but is that the only reason? The bow now ith unlimited store amounts means people can get mass quantities of the bolts easily.... and at 4gp they offer great value range xp 2. combat bracelet, let's you tele to champion guild...etc. and it lets you know when you killed 10 slayer task. However, besides that, I don't see much good about it. why do ppl still buy it? (i see ppl buying often) I think it's mainly teleport related... but the updates on slayer tasks is quite useful too
  20. Hurray Vannaka, I read the thread in ROSF suggestions about this poll and was defiantly the first person to suggest him for an update :) Small victory won :P
  21. Ohes noes! non opening box :uhh: I tried what I though would be most obvious and tried to open it as a goblin...... sadly I can't transform outside of the dungeon so can't be a goblin at the box :( I think it's a Pandora's box type thing...... intresting
  22. I personally quite that mini game and refused to ever go back, after 3 days only doing it getting 16 boots, 8 hats, 7 trousers..... and no top. It always stuck me as very very unbalanced for rewards.
  23. At the end of the day it does not matter if you believe a rule should be there or not.... the fact is you agreed to respect it when you made an account and every time you enter the site and so thus you should expect repercussions if you don't follow it. If there was a rule that stated: "don't say Hi and use the stomp emote at the same time!" (no matter how unlikely that would be....) we should work within the rules we have agreed to follow. If you think that the rule should not be there, so that you don't have to follow it.... (which is basically what you are saying) they you should take it up with Jagex directly, but until it's revoked you should respect it. Where's your warning? the rules you agreed to follow when you told Jagex you read the terms and conditions of the site at account creation..... there is your warning. When you look at what a black mark is..... what is it? it ain't a punishment! unless it's accompanied with a mute or temp ban it is nothing more than a pertinent record that you have been WARNED in the past for breaking the rule. learn from your warning and you won't ever get punished as you won't do it.
  24. Obviously this isn't the first time Jagex has ever had an issue like this. Once many years back one pop up ad made it onto the site.... Jagex where very angry and ended up sacking the ad company. It's a very bad situation to find them selves in and I am sure that similar action will be taken. I quite often hear of people thinking they are getting pop-up's on runescape.com although these are nearly all viruses people have got elves where. If you ever get a popup like this one anywhere take the following steps: -as quickly as possible disconnect your computer from the internet so no downloads can come in. -Close the popup via the X button dont click anywhere on the ad. -Run a full virus scan and spy scan -restart your computer, and run scans again. - You can then reconnect to the Internet.
  25. No, they do not read every appeal. It's automated. My friend did something terrible on his account, him as the sole owner, Jagex banned hi, he appealed, and he got appealed. "Sure you got a premade message but it's not done by computer" I don't understand...premade in terms of RuneScape CS is automated...automated is done by a computer system... Being a Forum mod and Jagex Customer support work in two completely different ways. Don't expect that you are correct in what you say just because you are a forum moderator and nothing more. Specific queries, no matter how many times repeated, should not be given a premade/automated response, since they are not all caused under the same circumstances and factors. Jagex is corrupt in their work. The paying members themselves that give Jagex their time and money get no more support in exchange than that of F2P. If you were Jagex, would you accept this appeal? I think it's probably automated... Also: Yeah, I'm a player mod also, and when I read this I was surprised as well that you weren't stripped of your title. I think that if a moderator breaks a rule, no matter how minor it is, their mod status should be taken away. No offense Bac_Talan... So you're saying I should be demodded because my immature 9-year-old brother grabbed the keyboard and typed something? [/hide] yes, you are responsible for what goes on your account. also my pmod friend was telling me you arent meant to brag about muting, nice "i have muted under that for many times before" at the top. TBH i think you should be demoted from pmod and either temp banned or muted simply because of them 2 offenses, and also saying "jagex blocks your pass" on your noob acc, because a pmod should know better than that. also bragging about muting. I said he grabbed the keyboard. Not that I gave him the keyboard. Big difference. And why does a brother grabbing the keyboard and saying cyan:@ to help get rid of bots deserve a ban? I already got a 1 day mute for the second part.. And the noob account ban was (I think, this was really long ago) because some guy was saying "Jagex doesn't block your pass, try it!" and I didn't think and contradicted him.. And that was a couple years ago. I wasn't a mod then. Judging by your attitude, I'm kinda glad you got banned from TIF. I saw your post of that appeal in another thread, I am EXTREAMLY worried if you are still a moderator, that type of attitude it totally unfair/ insensitive/ rude. I find any kind of abuse of the whole suicide line in very poor taste. I really do hope that your signature is out of date and you are in fact no longer a moderator, I certainly expect a certain level of professionalism from a community representative. [/hide] That's not my main account... I heard that kind of appeal worked and I tested it on a different account. I don't ever seriously use that kind of attitude toward others. I can assure you that, when I represent Jagex ingame, I try to be as professional as possible. To be honest with you I don't care what account you did it on, here on these forums you are advertising your self as a player moderator, in you avatar and signature, and are telling people that abusing customer support in this way can work, using of all things a line about suicide?!!? do your really think that is appropriate? I think you doing that here in the same box as claiming to be a moderator puts the entire player moderator teams reputation under strain when it has member advertising that they did that. And then we look at the offenses committed so that you could test this? for other readers I will post the image you posted in the screen shot sticky: These are offenses that even if it was not a player mod account decided to break just so you can see if CS abuse worked.... Rule1: offensive language. You in public said things that you hoped offended other people in hope that they reported you so that you can appeal Rule3: Password scamming..... you tried to get somebody's password!? I don't care if it's malicious or not.... what if somebody tried to give it to you? Rule2: item scamming (twice) you attempted to item scam JUST so that they would report you!? I am sorry but you are in the position where you should understand why we try and prevent this sort of thing..... there is NO excuse for just testing the system. I would really ask you to reconsider using that avatar and signature on these forums if you feel it's fine to do this....... you are causing damage to the whole team, and for that matter Jagex.
