I would get Kingston out of that list of good products. I've had a lot of trouble with anything I bought Kingston, so I guess I'm not buying anything from them anymore.

I would do scans with your antivirus and anti-spyware, it could likely be the cause of your problems. Also, msconfig is a good utility if you go to the startup tab to choose the files that load or not when you start the computer.

I'm starting to think that Av-comparatives gets paid by Norton and McAfee for that, since I have experienced them, and yes, McAfee 2009, and have had pretty bad experiences with McAfee (I didn't try the latest norton though, but it seems it's still ineffective from what I've seen on some computers).

You can remove the Other OS from the boot screen using the msconfig utility in windows, in the boot tab.

Actually, Norton has been worse than McAfee for quite a few years, but now it's McAfee that's at the bottom of the line, since Norton has made efforts to use less resources, but Norton is still ineffective almost as much as McAfee. I would get either Kaspersky or Avira free instead.

Well, it seems it really is the signal not being strong enough. I decided to test it at different times of the day, for a few days, and noticed that I don't have problems getting the TV when it's out of the busy hours, but when it's in the times of the day most people watch TV or are on the internet, that's when the signal is not strong enough for me to watch tv on the computer. I guess I'm going to have to ring my cable provider (which is also my ISP).

Virus arguments always work with people that seem to know as little as your parents seem to know. Such an outdated version of IE is quite dangerous for the computer to have, as the security holes that let viruses pass aren't patched anymore. IE is also A LOT slower than Most browsers. Firefox has a few add-ons to have more security too. Don't forget to mention the fact that more and more web developpers will develop more for the common browser than IE(which renders the web pages differently that the others, while the others, for the most part, render pretty much the same way).

What browser do you use? I know there are some issues between Firefox and Java on Vista 64bit (which are still easy to tweak).

That is about the same specs and almost the same model of laptop I use for college. That laptop is totally worth it.

I'm assuming that is in his price range, and if it is, those specs are terrible. 2g of ram and a 160g hdd? They are starting to come out with 6 gigs of ram and 500 gig hdd, for about 1000 euros(at least in America) If you buy a computer with 2 g and 160 it will be considered obsolete in a year, especially since the new windows should be out by then. It is already obsolete, but if it's just for RSHD, that's alright.

If no one has a solution, I'm going to install Vista 32bit in dual boot with my Vista 64bit on a small partition I will make, since hard drive space is not a problem when you have 1.7TB in the computer.

Actually, you don't have all that clutter if you go to start, select run (which is the search bar in Vista) and type diskmgmt.msc.

I would get an Asus laptop, best brand you can have (I personnally have one too) and they beat Alienware laptops hands down.

Hi, I have recently installed Vista 64bit on my computer. I am pleased that it's running even faster than its 32bit version, but I have a problem. When I try to use the Media Center to watch Tv, it keeps saying the signal is not strong enough. I didn't have any problems when I was on the 32bit version of Vista, and I don't want to go back to it just for something as small as the tv. The card is a Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II (26xxx). Now, I have googled the problem, and have tried finding drivers, but all I can find are drivers for the 32bit version. So, should I try using this one, or should I buy a new card, so I can plug the cable and finally watch tv on the PC? Or is there a free program that is better than the media center? I used the computer for ages to watch tv, and I don't have much money to spend, so if anyone here can find a solution, I'll take it.

Is it a prebuilt external hard drive? If yes, first thing you might want to do is call the company to see if you're able to partition on it. I fried the chip on one trying to partition, so I had to buy a new case and put the hard drive in the new case (which still works like new).

It's not for Firefox they're being developped, it's for common browsers (except IE, which renders differently and gives headaches to the developpers).

No. The media center Edition of Windows XP is because it has the media center on it. Simple as that. Only difference, else from the other versions of XP, is that it has a [cabbage] load of bugs and that it takes up as much space as Vista on the hard drive.

How can it use more RAM that it recognizes? It uses what it recognizes, it doesn't have enough adresses to use all the RAM because it's a 32bit OS. And why a 5200RPM drive? 7200RPM are just as cheap and are faster. It's at the cache of the drive you should be looking, most are 16mb of cache, but nowadays it's 32mb of cache.
