Osama Bin Laden confirmed dead
Well the guy is probably going to become a hero, so I imagine it would feel pretty damn good I'd be surprised if they ever released that information, it being a special forces (SEALS I believe) operation and all so I doubt the folks that took part will get any kind of public recognition for what they done nor would I think they'd want it. Watching a newsnight program about the whole thing now.

Osama Bin Laden confirmed dead
Glad they've finally got rid of him but it seems more symbolic than anything else. Osama was the "face" of Al Qaeda, taking him out doesn't change the fact that there are thousands of others just like him still out there, now with another reason to hate the west even more.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Saying that, when someone drops a glass in the pub and everyone shouts out. 99% of the time its a genuine accident. Does my nut in. Also, finding out how 2-faced some friends can become; this could turn into a whole [bleep]ing rant at the minute but I'm too drunk to make my thoughts into any kind of eligible, coherent sentence.

Should I feel creepy?
Yeah, that struck me as odd. What I heard my parents listening to growing probably influenced what I listen to now. Its something I've always been aware of.

The middle finger
This, pretty much. I'd say its lost most of its offensive meaning, here at least.

Royal Wedding
Could've had the day off work but most of us have chose to work it (as it'll be a quiet shift) and we get an extra day off next week instead. Wasn't planning on watching it anyway as I'm kinda sick of all the hype and coverage surrounding it already but hey. Also saw that Rowan Atkinson has got an invitation to it. Lets hope he comes in character as Mr Bean and livens it up for everyone.

Are you serious?... Yeah, beer adds a lot of flavor to food, you have to try it. This man has a point. A friend made a barbeque dipping sauce using Budweiser beer as one of the main ingredients which was fantastic. For my money, its better as a dipping sauce than a beer. Im sure Jack Daniels do a range of sauces as well.

Banning the burqa
I'd say I'm against it (the ban that is) although it's not a common thing here at all really, most muslim women here just wear the head scarves. At my old job (working as a part of the technician/maintenance team at a massive office complex) the issue about the burqa being a security threat came up as there was a muslim employee with one of the companies that had offices in our complex. Normally she just wore the head scarf, which showed her face on her id card/security pass which everyone had to have. For whatever reason she turned up one day in a full burqa and a [cabbage]storm ensued when the guy at the security desk wouldn't let her in without seeing it was actually her underneath it all. The incident got taken pretty seriously by the company she worked for. Obviously she protested her case but the company (a lawyers firm I think it was) said that working with all the sensitive and personal information that is part and parcel of their job requires a certain amount of security (id cards showing faces to make people immediately identifiable) which wearing a burqa prohibited. I'll see if I can find the article as it was in the local papers.

Today...
This post brought to you from a field somewhere in central Scotland after a 21st birthday party got slightly out of hand. I'm having a little browse of the net on my phone to work out exactly where we are and to work out wether or no we can get back.to civilisation by dawn. Cracking night regardless.

Is anyone else just completely disappointed with everyone?
Both sides made mistakes, both sides have admitted making mistakes. The accusations about trigger happy mods aren't something that should be brushed aside. I'm somewhat familiar with the ban process from my time as a mod a few years back but I'd wager most users aren't so maybe a clear cut sticky or something explaining the ins and outs of the warning/ban system might be good (or maybe theres something like this already that I've missed). Anyway, whats happened has happened. I guess it's how both sides try to work things out that matters now.

Cheating
As others have said, cheating online I don't agree with but in single player GTA or something, it makes no difference as it is only AI and the computer you've gained the advantage over. The games I used cheats on most was probably the GTA series but I never used them to further the story or whatever. For example, I'd cheat spawn a tank or a weapons set and go on a massive rampage and when I died, I'd either turn it off or re-load my game. Using walkthroughs doesn't bother me though I'm not a particularly big fan of them. The only thing I can think of using an online guide for was a puzzle (or two, actually) in Assassins Creed II which was driving me daft.

Today...
Worked this morning for a few hours, spent most of the time standing about talking as our end of the store was quiet. Heading to the pub later with some friends. The plan is to head up a bit early, meet with a friend who is traveling back here (home from college) with his new girlfriend, get something to eat then make full use of the beer garden to get a quiet beer or two in before it gets busy with the usual Saturday night clientele of wife beaters and fans of casual violence, after which we will proceed to our usual pub and drink until we don't feel feelings anymore. Mother's day tomorrow as well.

Article about murder & mutilation by US troops
I read the full article and watched the videos which I found pretty interesting, albeit horrible, but after the Abu Ghraib prison thing a few years back I'm surprised something like this hasn't come to light sooner.

Limewire sued for $75 Trillion
Pretty much sums it up for me as well. I used to buy CDs all the time but my circumstances have changed (poor student now) so I don't have the disposable money I did when I was still at school and the money I do have, I'd rather spend on tickets to see the band live than on a, more often than not, overpriced CD which I could download for free.

Today...
Been in the pub all night. I've got a week or so before I start working again and a couple of pals have been on holiday for the past couple of weeks so we've been doing a fair bit of drinking. Me and a friend have got a bottle of 14 year old single malt behind the bar of our regular which we convinced the barmaid, who we know reasonably well, to write our names on it and we and some friends will have the bottle finished before we go back to work. Challenge accepted.

Fair play to the kid, the bully had it coming. As much as it sounds bad, I agree with the OP that going to teachers rarely does anything to stop bullying. If the kid in the video had went to a teacher, that little [puncture] might've came back the next day calling him a grass or a snitch or whatever. Picking the bully up and slamming him off the floor has shown the bully he will retaliate (and in spectacular fashion at that) and has made sure that kid won't bother him or anyone again.

Tattoo general
I'm not a fan of tribal tattoos. Go on a night out to any city here and you'll see them everywhere, same with the Chinese/Thai/Korean/Whatever text. If I'm getting something permanantly tattoo'd onto myself, I'd have it something unique that I'm not going to see a similar variation of every time I go to the pub. I've got an idea of what I plan on getting done but it'll be a while yet before I've got the spare money for it and theres a few things I want to do before getting a tattoo.

Cars
Getting the insurance renewed on my car either this week or next week, be good to finally be back behind the wheel. Also, out of curiosity, what are the roads like in your areas? Here, we've got potholes everywhere, partly due to all the snow and cold weather we had over Christmas but the local council have done bugger all to fix them. I was speaking to a friend who is an apprentice mechanic and he said something like 3/4's of the cars that have came in since the snow and whatever has disappeared have needed the shocks and suspension fixed or replaced, which is something I can believe. Other than that, the roads about here are pretty good for driving. I'm near the edge of the town where I stay so I've got a load of winding backroads going through forest and farmland that are pretty fun to drive, especially in summer. And totaling a Hummer, thats got to be some kind of achievment.

Giant Earthquake hits Japan
Very true. And the fact that theres been no looting speaks volumes as well. I can't imagine the same happening if a similar event happened in the UK or the USA (look what happened after hurricane Katriona).

Giant Earthquake hits Japan
This is interesting to think about. Assume an area is completely wiped out population wise but some or most of the architecture is still standing. What do they do? Do they bulldoze it all and try to repopulate it or do they just say "[bleep] it" and leave it as is? Yeah, thats quite a good point. In this case I believe most of the buildings are destroyed so I'd probably bulldoze it and start again, once the rescue teams and whatnot have picked through it for the survivors/bodies but I don't know what the Japanese Government plan to do with it. Was reading again today about a 60 year old man who got onto his roof when the wave hit, which then carried him 9 miles out to sea before the navy got to him and rescued him which is pretty surreal. And there was a picture of a passenger ferry which had been swept away then deposited on the roof of a two story building. The mind boggles when you see pictures like that. Puts the power of the earth into real perspective.
