  1. Just come up with a monster that deals 6000 damage through defence and prayer if there's a single player in the boss room, but 60 each to two or more players. Tada! Un-soloable boss monster!
  2. I agree 110% The same could be said for any other group, this reason doesn't make PKers a special breed who never vote on the polls. I'd have thought that the number of players in PVP worlds, expressed as a fraction of the total number of players online at any one time gives about the same percentage as that poll anyway. If PKing is THAT popular, PVP worlds should be overflowing with people like the busier worlds. Even before Jagex removes the wilderness, I only find more PKers concentrated in a few unofficial worlds, the wilderness in most worlds are pretty much deserted, except for a few 2-3 man team walking around looking for lone targets.

  4. http://devblog.runescape.com/view_post.ws?post_id=29 [hide=The DevBlog]Phox1515 asks: If there was 1 thing you could change without limitations of java, abilities, ECT... any 1 thing with no restrictions at all (like we'll ever have a world like that) what would it be? The one technical limitation Id most like to be without is the massive amount of inconsistency between different PCs and the compatibility problems it causes. At the moment, every time we do a game engine update we have to test it on multiple operating systems, multiple browsers, multiple graphics cards, multiple Java versions and multiple speed/memory computers with multiple anti-virus programs. The number of possible combinations is insane! We have a whole stack of computers just for testing but even then we can only cover a tiny fraction of combinations. To be able to write the code just once and know that if it works on my computer, it will work on everyone elses as well - that would be wonderful. Pur35 Ownage asks: Would it be possible to make the clan chat into real chat with microphones, this would be much better for pk situations when you cant click and type. Voice chat is something we have been thinking about doing. Its certainly possible but has all sorts of challenges e.g. bandwidth use, making report abuse work, etc. so isnt likely to happen in the imminent future. Vannakius asks: Throughout the forums they are suggestions that we would like the old graphics back. Will you be doing that? Would it be possible to have maybe a "third option" for graphics? In this case, it's similar to standard, but as in the older graphics - and will not be touched? The graphics have been changed repeatedly throughout the history of RuneScape and every time people have asked if they can have an option to keep the old ones. Im not even sure which particular set of graphics you consider to be the old ones! If every time we were asked, we had put in an option to keep something (not just graphics) the old way, the options page would probably be a truly enormous mess of about 1,000 options by now! It would be completely boggling and a huge amount of work to maintain as wed then have to test against those thousands of options with every update! Even as it is we now have to test every update in both SD and HD mode, in resizable mode and windowed mode and against all the options we do have. To have an options screen with thousands of options would be stunningly impractical. Samywamy10 asks: Do many people know how to code RSC or is it just Andrew and Paul? Not many. There are about three people who understand the RS Classic engine at the moment. Until recently there were only two but Mod Jack H has been doing a lot of work on it in preparation for relaunching it. There are also probably only about five people here who still know how to write scripts for RS Classic. Its very, very old and most of our staff were employed after it was no longer in use. Magimage60 asks: Will there be further updates being released to help the lag on computers be fixed? Depends what you mean by lag. We have a big update in the works that should make the graphics use less CPU and run smoother without reducing the quality. It should also mean more people will be able to run HD mode. If you mean network lag, there isnt a lot we can do about that as it is usually caused by problems on the Internet, not problems on our servers. We do, however, try to design our games as much as possible so the occasional bit of lag isnt fatal and we will continue to try to improve that. Mikeboi101 asks: What are you personally concerned the most about today in RuneScape? Lately there has been the "Merching" epeidemic, how concerned are you about this and do you feel that further actions will be necessary to contain the damage(s) they are causing? The attempts to price manipulate on the Grand Exchange are annoying but not a massive concern in the grand scheme of things. They are fairly easy to spot heuristically and we already have updates in the works to make it so this sort of thing doesnt work (the price just wont change). Cantristenon asks: Are you planning to add a new Continent? The one we live has started to reach its borders and seem like finished. RuneScape's world map is also pretty small compared to many other MMORPGS so it would make sense to enlarge it in that way. Yes, a new continent seems likely...eventually! Tito39 asks: Are you considering day/night in RuneScape? Not at the moment. While it would be graphically attractive, it wouldnt really give more than a few minutes of enjoyment if it was purely cosmetic. We could add it and make it affect the actual game (e.g. certain shops only open at certain times), however, I experimented with that once before and making it so you had to wait until the right time to do certain things mostly just proved rather annoying. It might happen one day but there are other things we can do first which I think are more exciting. Nizze 20 asks: Do you think luck is too dominant in RuneScape? Im especially thinking of combat, since a level 100 could easily beat a lvl 130 with a stroke of luck. Personally I dont think that is fair, but I'd like to hear your opinion. I dont think luck is too dominant but I can understand how people get frustrated when they get a sudden run of bad luck. Unfortunately, statistically, a sudden run of good or bad luck in a truly random system is a lot more likely than you might think. This is why you can sometimes not get any good drops for far longer than you expect and then suddenly get two good ones in a single go. Ive wondered about making it less random by using random number tables rather than making each random decision in isolation, such that after a roll of the die is used up you are less likely to get that result again until you have also had the other results the die can give. This would leave it somewhat random but make it impossible to get a run of bad or good luck. However, Im not sure, and wonder if removing that would take something away from the game. Djpailo asks: A long time ago, a RuneScape classic high scores WAS promised. This was promised in a news article dating back to "31st January 2004 - RS2 progress report" where you were planning to have separate high scores for both. No new information was then provided. Will we ever get a separate high scores for RSC? That was a progress report of what we were planning at the time, not a promise. Unless the sentence starts with "We promise..." then you should assume we are simply being open about our plans and trying to involve and inform our players but that our plans might, of course, change. Trying to claim we promised something we didnt just puts us off being open and talking about the future. RSC high scores are not currently planned. Djpailo asks: With the plans to move onto DirectX, what contingency plans are in place to ensure RuneScape will still be playable on even the most basic computers? DirectX will be offered in addition to the existing graphics modes. The existing software and OpenGL modes will remain available as well. In fact, we are currently also working on an update that should make RuneScape work better than ever on basic computers. Burvis99 asks: Would sailing, sea battles etc be possible to make on Java; in RuneScape? Yes. A Cole asks: Now Mobilising Armies has been released, what future updates are you thinking about which can use the technology developed in Mobilising Armies? Some of the technology has already been used in other updates. A lot of the time you cant tell but taking just one (of many) examples, we added a feature to allow players to interact with things without having to have a visible line to them. This has already been used in the Chosen Commander (yes, I know it came out first - we used it before Mobilising Armies was even finished!) and Missing My Mummy quests. Thats only one example of many improvements we added to the engine for Mobilising Armies being used elsewhere. Id personally like to see the NPC stack icons used in more places, as I think they could really help keep things clearer in crowded areas in general. Masoondragon asks: Will the maximum experience or even maximum level cap ever be raised as currently there are only three skills (summon, slayer and rcing) that don't have maximum experience. Maximum experience is unlikely to rise. Its already a long way above the maximum level cap. Zhang Fee asks: A lot of players did mentioned, that your IP (internet Protocol) has effect on several things in RuneScape. If Players click in the same tick rate on something the Player with the better IP gets it. For example: Flag at Castle Wars, Attacking a Monster in non-multi area, closing and opening doors/gates. Are you going to change this in the future? Yes, we are planning on fixing this shortly. Aracaurd asks: Will you be updating us on the encrypted flash-drive? I would like to know more about this, and will gladly buy one regardless of more bank space. This idea is currently on hold because it was made pretty clear by our players that they didnt want us to incentivise it and without that it isnt likely to be economical. We are looking at alternative methods of enhancing your security instead. Shamushand asks: In your opinion, do you think RuneScape will ever surpass it's current engine limitations, like having our characters walk in a grid, or having the game run in 600 millisecond 'ticks'? Do you have any more advanced graphic features planned (bloom, Depth of Field, etc)? Do you think we'll ever have the ability to control our characters with the keyboard, like some other MMO's? Have you been spying on us? Are you one of our staff in disguise? :P These questions are remarkably similar to questions we have been asking ourselves internally. To answer your questions: maybe, yes and yes. Dragoon Dex asks: This is the year of upgrades/updates, what is your planned theme for next year? Well, I think having a theme for a whole year may be overdoing it a bit. Next year will just be the year of awesomeness. Naruto511111 asks: Is java programming hard (or 'rune scripting')? Depends on how much practice youve had. Lol A Pic asks: Andrew, if you could thank anyone (besides you) for the success of your mmorpg game, who would it be and why? Well, all the hardworking staff here who have created the game, of course! I just made the game engine, everyone else has made an awesome game using that engine. Lol A Pic asks: Andrew, if your attempt to create an mmorpg game failed, what occupation would you have right now? Id either still be trying (I dont give up easily!), or Id be making a different computer game instead. Arengeir asks: What advice would you give to students going into the field of programming and game development? Someone else asked me this in an interview recently, so Ill cheat and use the answer I gave last time. What worked for me was sticking to what I had a real passion for and what I was good at. I never sat down and said to myself "I want to make a hugely successful game and make lots of money", that was never the aim and I think if it had been it wouldn't have worked. I also think it is important to have realistic goals. If my initial objective had been to create a game as massive as RuneScape, it would have seemed like an impossible task. I'd have been totally daunted and would never have got anywhere. Instead, focus on what you can realistically do - make a simple game, certainly don't start with an MMO. Most importantly, set an achievable goal you will enjoy. Make a simple game for the love of making that simple game as well as you possibly can and seeing just how well you can make it. Just because it's simple and achievable, doesn't mean it can't be beautifully crafted and something to be proud of. Boboyobo asks: What was your parents reaction when you told them that you were going to create a company to manage your video game? It wasnt really a sudden, overnight decision. Id been working on a self-employed basis for a while, so moving to running a company and employing a few other staff wasnt actually a massive transition, so I dont think anyone was hugely surprised. Boboyobo asks: Do ya'll still have devious mud somewhere? Yes, I still have it - it still runs. Not anything like finished enough to put on our website but one day, I really should post a YouTube video of it running. Big Boss1254 asks: Aside from working on the game, does anyone at Jagex actually have time to really play the game? (as in skill, quest**** etc.) Yes, definitely. Lots of our staff play the game for fun in their spare time on ordinary (non-Mod) characters (e.g. at weekends and evenings). Some of them are surprisingly high-level. I have an in-game character which I use to play the game normally, the way everyone else does. Very few people know it is me, not even the people on my Friends List. Ishootguthix asks: Do you have any plans with RuneScape classic? Yes, thanks. Watch this space... Str Ftw155 asks: Andrew You were such a great owner why did you leave? Eh? Im still here! Vaporage2020 asks: Do you think you will ever be able to higher the max amount of money we can have? If so to how much, 10b? Technically it is possible, but there isnt really any point having any more than 2 billion, so its really unlikely to become a high enough priority to happen any time soon. Deathgodlink asks: Are you guys ever going to make it so ex members can still play the f2p game without having to drop their members stuff? Yes, we have plans to fix the bank so members items go into a members section when you go back to F2P and so your bank doesnt get messed up. Sliferdude24 asks: How often do you go in your CC for Q&A? I've seen you there once before (and hunted for you in-game ) but is it planned or just something you feel like doing? Not that often, I have to admit. It isnt planned, its done in my spare time so just happens when I feel like it. I havent had much spare time lately, though. Blackdog5100 asks: How do you react to everyone overreacting about every single update? I, of course, read the comments to find the constructive criticism and to get ideas for what can be improved but the overreaction I totally ignore. Ranting mindlessly without even trying the update obviously doesnt achieve anything, only well-reasoned comments do. Daz0490 asks: Why is Jagex, as a company, so secretive about RuneScape? Weve been trying to be a lot less secretive lately. Weve never really meant to be secretive, we were just very busy working on the game! Were now trying to take a bit more time to talk to you also, however, we do still like to keep some surprises in store and have to be careful not to promise things we cant or might not be able to deliver. X Puriakas X asks: Why are you into cabbages so much? Just for fun. Emg Blue asks: Are FunOrb games and MechScape developed in funscript/mechscript respectively? RuneScript? directly in Java? Directly in Java. Emg Blue asks: What Java platform does RuneScape use? Java EE, Java SE? Or are the servers on EE and clients on SE? Java SE for both client and server. Emg Blue asks: And finally, what Java application framework do your servers use(WebSphere, JBoss, etc..)? Our own custom framework. Gold Mage148 asks: The code: RuneScript. Was it developed by Andrew, or it some form of modification of an existing code? (c++ for instance.) It was developed originally by me and has since been worked on by a few other people at Jagex. Its a continually evolving language. The RuneScript used by RuneScape these days is totally different to the RuneScript used by RS Classic. It has similarities to various other languages, but is unique. Lpfreaky90 2 asks: 1. What is your daily job? Are you content developer? Game engine writing? Thinking about new skills? Eating cabbage? 2. What content would you like to see in RuneScape? 3. How do you feel about MechScape? 4. What do you expect from MechScape? 5. What skill do you think should get the biggest update? 6. How different is the game engine 26-aug-2009 vs game engine 1-jan-2009 1. Game engine developer and also some management and design overview. 2. More penguins! Lots more penguins! 3. Excited. 4. I think its going to be big! 5. At the moment, Smithing seems overdue, but I want to update most of them. 6. We have changed thousands of lines of code! Darkdeeje asks: In the last Q&A I think you confirmed that RuneScape will be ported to consoles in the near future. Any news on that? We are currently focussing on making the 3D engine more platform independent, so it is easier to port in the future. Our new 3D engine, RuneTek 5 (RT5), has been heavily rewritten to make this possible. Yevano1 asks: Why has the title on the homepage been changed from Jagex Ltd. to Jagex Games Studio? We think it better reflects our values, which have always been about making great games. Cremeans0 asks: Where are the remaining Classic servers being housed? Before the labelling was removed it showed them as being located in London. They are currently in Nevada, USA. Purely Pure5 asks: Would Jagex ever be open to allowing players to transfer their possessions from account to account if it could be proved that they were both owned through one person? No, this is unlikely to happen. Lol A Pic asks: Andrew, what do you consider to be your favourite game?(besides RuneScape) Wow, its difficult to choose just one! Ill be blatantly biased and say Arcanists on FunOrb.com. If you want me to choose a non-Jagex game, I still think the original Half-Life 2 is hard to beat. Mage 2 Grave asks: When you first started RuneScape, all those years ago. Did you ever imagine it to turn out how it has? And are you truly happy with how it is today, and where its heading? No, I had no idea. I thought it was just another game, that like all the ones before would be done in a few months and Id be on to the next one. I never imagined Id still be making it nine years later! Im happy with it, but there is still a LOT more I want to improve. Perduta asks: Andrew, I know you passionate are about PvP. But Pk-ers need someone to pk yet there no incentive for ordinary players come PvP world, is there? I quite happy am, risk in PvP if Jagex gives skiller way to realize EP without usin "tricks". I also enjoy PvP when it involves strategy and skill not just depends on acquired levels. Please tell us more of your inspirations for PvP. PvP seems to be one of the hardest areas of the game to get right and certainly one of the most controversial areas to adjust even slightly. Its difficult because any change will inevitably slightly help one player, but at the expense of another and the person who loses out WILL then complain, loudly! I dont think PvP has been through particularly more revisions than many other aspects of the game but unavoidably, every time its changed, its controversial and a big deal! Im still determined to get it right, though. At the moment, Im happier with the state of PvP in the game than I have been for a long time and the number of people we see currently choosing to PvP backs up that its more popular than ever. Stefan456 asks: Do you ever feel you get credit for things other employees at Jagex deserve? All the time. :P Timdcz asks: Is there going to be a RuneScape Movie? I found some info that may lead to one somewhere on these forums. Id love to do a RuneScape movie. It would be very good for my ego! Not sure if it will ever happen, though, it would be a truly enormous undertaking! Not something to do lightly. Gildroy7 asks: How do you (Andrew) as one man think you have progressed since the days of Devious MUD in your Attick? Can we expect a Devious MUD Release on FunOrb? I understand it's old, but I am very interested in your early work. DeviousMUD isnt really playable; it was more of a tech test. It runs, but has barely any content. It certainly wouldnt be possible to release on FunOrb. I keep meaning to post a video of it but havent got round to it yet! Ivl 3 Man asks: Has growing up In the UK inspired you towards medieval type things, such as the basis for RuneScapes overall theme? I suspect the inspiration has more come from other fantasy books, games and films. Its hard to be sure - its just what feels right! Makoto D asks: When will the RS client/server be ported to a 64-bit platform, and when will 64-bit operating systems be supported in an official capacity? The client has already been ported to 64-bit and should work on 64-bit operating systems right now! We test the client on 64-bit Vista (with 64-bit Java) as part of our standard compatibility testing process each week.[/hide] The best answer from Andrew himself would probably be this: Yes yes yes! \ And let's see how many screams of 'SAILING!' can be heard on the board with this: This is probably the best interview so far, Andrew doesn't beat about the bush. You can usually expect either one of the following: yes, no, in development, not planned for, possible and impossible.
  5. I read the Trust Me part of the title as a reference to this: They didn't say anything anything about trusting them in making every single update bug free did they?
  6. To Me_Hate_Libs, My understanding of the situation has always been like this, taking the example of the menagerie update. I take it as, they're trying to clean up the old coding system, and the incompatibility of having both old and new code in the game causes every new content this year to cause some sort of glitch and bugs when players access the game. It's pretty obvious, the update affects areas that aren't even related to it in some weird manner. It's going to take a few years of updates before each update stacks on the old game nicely rather than slicing through it. What do you expect them to do about it? Have their relatively small QA team test the updates for manhours equivalent to 50,000 players before releasing? To Kietaro1, could you clarify a little on what updates last year did you consider amazing? Or any amazing updates in all your gaming years. I'm kinda curious as to what you define as amazing.
  7. Are the both of you still unaware/ignorant/oblivious of the fact that the bugs are caused by hundreds of thousands of users accessing the game at the same time? Unless their QA team is has a manpower of at least 50,000 people to simulate an actual game situation, it's inevitable for bugs to occur, especially at a time when it's the year of upgrades (in terms of new engine, new code) for THEIR side as well. Even a MMORPG that cost three times that of RuneScape has their own fair share of major bugs equivalent in magnitude to your Falador Massacre. That, plus a bunch of securtiy breach that RuneScape players don't have to worry about, at least.
  8. This is a joke right? Someones going to jump out from behind a bush and yell "punk'd" righttt? I mean bloody hell comeon. If they are so worried about the spirit of the game then take away Mercher Clans. They are the biggest problem at the moment. The mini game is still being enjoyed as it was intended by most players, others just looking for tickets play it a different game. These gams are here to be played the way we want them. This is getting really [bleep] crazy. Any more idiocy like this BS and im giving up on RS. How about reading the previous few posts, and post some constructive criticism? You're acting like one of the regular "OMG this update is FAIL! FIX MERCH CLAN" players who post regardless of what the update was. I'm kinda wondering when you'll actually give up on RS. -.-
  9. If I'm playing GOP normally to get some SOP rewards such as tablets and clothing, and this guy next to me is doing the same thing, except he plays 50/50 games instead, and getting tokens at a faster and more regular rate, would I not be affected? Let's say that both of us happens to be training Runecrafting using GOP, he's training at a faster rate compared to me, am I not affected? If I don't support 75k tricking and only do legit PKing, but everyone around me is doing so, and getting a constant flow of money for literally no effort. My GP depreciates every day, I don't get constant profit from PKing, and supplies cost more than ever, am I not affected by it? If you compare the 50/50 games to the whole RuneScape gaming population, of course there's little link between the two. But if you compare the two groups for each of the scenario I've given, then yes there is an effect: players are compelled by the rewards to bypass the original gameplay for better profits, which is cheating. The appreciable effect comes into play when you're going to participate in the same event, and now have to choose whether to cheat or play the normal way, which are choices that should have never been there at all. It's like botting (for personal use, for the levels, not the sweat shop gold farming thingy), if a friend of yours powerlevels his various skills quickly by leaving the computer on for 24/7, and there isn't a rule to ban botters, he would have reached maxed skills faster than you could have ever achieved playing normally. Effectively he is having fun gaining fast levels without effort, you're annoyed by him, and by your flawed agrument you should move on because items are not harder to buy, your money making methods aren't becoming obsolete, and you're not having any less fun?
  10. Your point was, QA isn't doing their job well. Your post was, QA isn't doing their job at all. My point is, how do you expect QA to test the product in the situation where hundreds of thousands of players access it simultaneously? Obviously the product was fine when they test it, as if they would miss the issue of the obelisek not recharging points, or test the menagerie without it appearing in the POH. Your point was invalid and rude. EDIT: And yes, you're trolling during that post, by Tip.It's standard. You need a break from RuneScape.
  11. If something can be done about the pet fish and rocks, it would be even better. I think they don't really count as offical pets at the moment. A rare pet fish that's catchable during fishing perhaps? An aquarium to store all the fish in? Viewable fish and rocks on the summoning interface?
  12. This update would be great  , after ironing out all the bugs and glitches  . It won't take too long I hope? More importantly, any whining Tip.Iters this time who think this update is a big fail because it's not high level content, or how it's useless? Lol, I just realised that this pet habitat update is the one from one of the fansite artwork we had a while back :wall: Along with the skeletal creature that turned out to be Rag and Bone 3, that's two down. Next one, addy dragon please!
  13. Like someone above mentioned, 90% of the minigames in RuneScape provide some form of rewards, and unless the game itself is really fun, it would be left to rot a few weeks after its release. For me, Stealing Creation is a fun and rewarding minigame, while Castle Wars is a fun minigame. So I tend to play a few rounds of CW when looking to break away from normal training, but for SC, I can play for as long as I like as there isn't much repercussion from spending my time there as compared to CW. There are other minigames which are pretty decent and may/may not have rewards I desire, and then there's the no-so-fun ones with rewards I desire. So obviously, if a minigame is bad in terms of gameplay, and have no rewards, or rewards I don't desire, I'm not going to spend my free time (in RuneScape) playing it. I'm pretty lenient when it comes to defining whether a minigame is fun or not (I find Gnome Delivery fun \ , but obviously the majority of the RuneScape players are not, and some of them pretty much only go for the rewards. Removing minigame rewards would be similar to removing Wilderness except that it doesn't solve any major problems that needs to be solved immediately. You may filter out the players who don't truly have a passion in the minigame, but that's not Jagex's intention; they want their product to reach as many audience as possible. I always believe that you can play the game without following the rules, IF the motive isn't some sort of personal physical benefits/reward. I don't mind playing a game of chess with you with knights removed, if you hate using them. I don't mind friendly soccer matches with lesser players, or even uneven teaming if there's a lack of players. However, if there's rewards involved, then no, you'll never see those examples in world tournaments. For RuneScape, it means anything from EXP to useful/decorative items. Anyone twisting the minigames always do it for the sake of rewards, so I don't see why these activities should be allowed. Perhaps the minigames are badly designed and as such allow players to bypass the original gameplay while reaping rewards. What should be done by Jagex? Redesign it so that rigging isn't possible? Add harsher rules to perm-ban players for rigging games? Maybe, but I don't think those are high on Jagex priorities. Most of their compeitive minigames nowadays also team you up with random people to prevent arranged games, such as in Fist of Guthix, Mobilisation Armies. I've mentioned the same thing to the 50/50 GOP players on RSOF. Jagex won't promote game rigging, so hoping that they would allow you to makes threads to play games with arranged results is out of the question. Gathering supporters doesn't change anything. It's still not a bannable offence to play rigged games, so you can techically continue to do so. But if say, you have a better idea (such as cooperative-based GOP with close rewards), you can suggest it, rather than using the bad design of the original minigame as an excuse to promote rigged games for reward reaping. EDIT: Obviously Jagex want to stop players from slacking at half the altars  .
  14. Did you just say that wrong doing is fair, because you can join in and do wrong yourself? :wall: (refrains from making real world references -.-) You agree that 75k tricking and manipulating the GE are wrongdoings, but some players don't. I'm using this as an example of how certain actions of players are what you'd considered as morally wrong, but not all players see it that way and continue to do it. And even though everyone has the choice to join in the wrongdoing so that you're not left behind in the benefits, it doesn't mean that we should all condone it because "no one gets hurt" (if everyone does it), such as 50/50 GOP and CW games, GE manipulating clans, or 75k tricking. Some people just don't see these as "wrong" until Jagex rewrites the rules to include it. This is my point. Jagex needs to have the mindset of crooks before coming up with every game content, to know how twisted-minded players might abuse the system (which they do, whenever possible, as long as it's not a bannable offence). Often the failure to do so leads to more problems, for example:  Originally: the Great Orb Project; 2 opposing teams attract orbs of their respective colours, whichever team with more orbs win. We end up with: players forming teams to win 50% of the altar, so that both teams benefit. Originally: PVP worlds, you kill players, you get random drops if successful. We end up with: Some sort of lottery system where each lottery cost 75k and winnings is up to 5 million. Originally: The Grand Exchange; you buy what you need, you sell what you don't. We end up with: You buy up supplies in groups so that price would soar, and dump for profit. Originally: Freezing spells, DDS; an assortment of arsenal for PKing  We end up with: Luring. Notice how players are always bent on finding out methods to maximise their profits with the least effort possible?

Fur 'n' Seek You may whine about how the update may be low level, or irrelevant to you, but there will ALWAYS been people who enjoy these updates. I use the deposit-all bank buttons all the time. I've never seen an evil tree with no one chopping it, I still want to do all the new quests. If you can tell me one update from this list which no one uses, go ahead. Obviously if you just so happen to be someone who did not make use of any of these updates, I feel sorry for you. That doesn't mean the updates are useless. Otherwise, we can all agree that there has been many updates this year, more than your fingers and toes, some bigger and more decent than the other, and there are people who actually enjoy or need them. Next, please learn that doesn't mean that one factor of the game is what you'll call screwed, it means that Jagex needs to send all their programmers, artists, QA staff, forum moderators and their mums rushing to fix this one game feature. It seems that players both on Tipit and RSOF have the tendency to compare any update that they don't find useful to the worst element of the game. "OMG that new quest is soooo low level, fix the GE/75k fixing!" "OMG the new whip graphics sucks, why don't they fix the GE/75k fixing?" "OMG I don't train agility! FIX THE GE/75k fixing!" "OMG they shouldn't stop players from game fixing! FIX THE DAMN GE/75k fixing" (Yes, you are here) Jagex has recently taken on the stand to prevent players from result-fixing on the RSOF. This means any competitive-based minigames like GOP and Castlewars. So to answer canadiansmurf, pest control is a cooperative-based minigame. Players form teams and clans to win the game as fast as they can, and Jagex didn't ban such forum threads. You don't even know what you're talking when you're comparing CW to PC, sir. And if you think that no one is complaining about 50/50 GOP, one's standing right in front of you. It just happens to be one of the less popular minigame for one of the less popular skill in RuneScape, but that doesn't mean game-fixers should get away with it, and that no one should be against it. If the idea of spirit of the game is too abstract for you, it's almost the same as fixing 75k tricking. People aren't doing any actual PKing, they just take takes to rake in the drops. It doesn't hurt anyone, since anyone can do it, and you'll benefit in monetary terms if you do. However, some people choose not to, because it's not in the spirit of the game. That, and the underlying problem of inflation and whatsnot. GE manipulating as well, if you have what it takes, you can jolly well set up a merch clan with yourself as the leader, and earn the big bucks. Lastly, the "we pay we say" idea is one of the most groundless arguments I've seen. And great! Tipit'ers are using it too. I can't imagine what's going to happen if every paying member starts getting what they want. If you're so bent on high level content, try giving me an idea of what you want in details, and see if the rest of the high levels want what you want, and whether it can last a decently long time before people forget about it. EDIT: By the way, while this is the year of upgrades, the actual important upgrade that Jagex is doing is the server back-end upgrade, which they introduced with a Dev blog on 9th July, and 90% of the players like me don't understand what it really means. They also mentioned that they'll inform us of the latest movement of data, and so far we only had one, which was the highscores movement on 14th July. You better pray hard that nothing goes wrong with the rest of the transferring, or else some multimillion accounts may just go "poof" on one fine day.
  16. Off to bed, I'll give you a proper reply tomorrow. Just a clue, try applying your silly argument about how everything involving player cooperation should be allowed to 75king tricking. And learn the meaning of result fixing, instead of comparing to cooperative-based minigames like PC. Oh, and freeloading on Trawler fishing has been fixed, I wonder if you even knew that. Nice assumption. You finished trolling on RSOF and moved to tipit to further vent your anger on how Jagex fails and this game sucks? Take a break, seriously.
  17. Inefficient in what sense? You're playing a minigame, not training a skill. There's no effiiciency involved. Unless you're (of course) talking about rewards like gold CW armour, inbued berserker rings, then you're mostly reward oriented. You want the fastest way to get them. If possible you want the ring without all the playing (or grinding, time wasting by your definition). You just assume that issues need to be solved in a linear order from highest to lowest priority. But there's not the case. Fixing the GE and merchanting issues involves re-programming the system. What does it take to enforce rules that prevent game-fixing? Instructions to forum J and PMods. And if some people insist, we can all go and inform Jagex that they're not strict enough, we need 24 hour bans for every small mistakes. Does that mean that they aren't and can't work on both issues simultaneously with different groups of staff?
  18. Someone mentioned earlier that advertising events that promote game/result fixing is against forum rules. This is correct, as most GOP 50/50 game threads are being locked for the past few months. Perhaps it is Jagex's fault that they didn't put this rule in black and white on the forums, but I still think that you have no right to say that Jagex have no right to do so, or that you don't think you're not doing anything wrong. I've already mentioned on the RSOF when one of the leader of a big group of 50/50 GOP game made a thread about this issue. In summary, 1. You adhere to whatever rules Jagex implement, no questions asked. 2. You don't provide reasons such as players who fix games are "more mature and cooperative." (All in the wrong manner) 3. It's not in the spirit of the minigame, and you're pretty much angry that you can't grind the tokens/tickets for the rewards. 4. Most importantly, you can suggest improvement to the minigame, instead of finding fault with the current one, and use that as an excuse to bypass the game system. Non-combat SC games aren't fixing results, since the outcome is still entirely dependant on factors such as putting barriers around important resources fast, speed of gathering, and overall non-combat skills of the players. Basically if you advertise modified versions of the minigame (such as no magic castlewars), your thread won't be locked on RSOF. To those who think Jagex isn't doing a good job at upholding the rules, I can assure you that it's not that they aren't, it's just that they are lenient. Most wrongdoings on the RSOF usually only get a warning or thread lock by moderators. If they want to, they can dish out blackmarks and bans for every small issue, and trust me you won't like it. I'm pretty sure that most of you heard of the virtual pet website Neopets. It's ten times easier to get a ban from that, then on RuneScape. Easily a 24 hour ban for talking negatively about the staff and moderators. If Jagex employs such tough measures, people would actually be scared of being caught with any wrongdoings or getting permanently banned. By the way, saying that Jagex should be fixing real issues instead of this is total [cabbage]. That's more of an excuse to continue your game-fixing ways on your part than a proper argument that Jagex isn't doing their job well.
  19. Ironically, I'm sick of high levels who believe that Jagex needs to churn out the level 80s, 90s and 99 equipment tomorrow. That'll really be the end-game content, like literally the end of the game., without providing any solutions to the fact that damage are too great compared to max HP as for now. Or high level quests, when quests don't even contribute to more than 1% of your runescaping time, and are just fun for that one day of questing. If you want a high level content, Jagex provided it long ago: Getting all skills to 99. If that's not enough, getting to the first position on any highscore. That is at the end of the day, the core purpose of the game itself. Minigames and quests can free you of the boredom sometimes, but it's mostly still about training skills and grinding EXP at the end of the day. Rewards like equipments and new training ground either help in providing better EXP rate, or varied training methods.
  20. Looks like my dream of buying a yellow partyhat for keeping won't come true anytime soon :(
  21. I think it'll be a good fight between who would die out first, Polemon or RuneScape. \
  22. I think this one matters the most in the whole Q&A session. This should be posted in the frontpage permanently, to inform people that just because they don't like the new abyssal whip graphics, or the new dance emote, doesn't mean that every player and their dogs in the game hates it, and then start damanding the reversal of the update.
  23. Blocked steel and iron dragons, since I was trying to train Ranged during Slayer and those two would seem way to inefficient. Other than that I find most task pretty easy. Warped terrorbird: There was a guide on Tipit whereby you could melee them one by one using of spot, while praying range, and I can kill most within one round of weakening. Great drop and EXP. Black demons: Safespot void range these. I think I was about 75% -80% as efficient as a meleer. Hellhounds: Tried both melee and ranged, pretty fast task either way since they have low defence. Defence gear + Bunyip + Enchanced Excalibur = no food needed when meleeing. Otherwise it's safespot void ranging. Scarabites: I haven't done Dealing with Scarabaras \ Skeleton wyverns: About 60 kills per hour, 1 per minute. I use unicorn stallion to heal, and always use the spot to the left where there's a lone wyvern, so that they stop being aggressive towards me after 10 minutes (if you stay within that spot). No food needed as well. I think most tasks that people dislike are actually the more challenging ones. You really need the best gear and stats to complete them efficiently.
  24. People are throwing around adding defensive stats to it and some people don't think it is a good amulet, so I just had the thought of giving it a boost. That would be pretty overpowered for a drop from a mere level 78 slayer monster. You can get black mask at lv 58, and you say a range based black mask in lv 78 is a overpowered drop? No, I meant adding defensive stats to it would make it overpowered.. You're either trying to devalue fury, or make this amulet worth too much , or too good for its price after the market is flooded with it, seeing that the drop rate is pretty good. But an effect similar to black mask for ranged won't be that bad. Maybe I misread the previous few posts, but most people were comparing it to fury and how the amulet is worthless without defensive stats, which I don't see the need for in terms of ranging monsters.
  25. There is only two possibilities, given Jagex's current pace and purpose of their update to the server and stuff. Another giant continent is coming, it would be one of the largest update after RuneScape 2 and HD graphics, codenamed RuneScape: Episode III. With all the hype about Eastern Lands, from NPCs originating from it, to hairstyles, and how Jagex likes to surprise us with a well-hidden enormous updates that aren't your usual new quest or monster, it would be safe to say that there's bound to be a new continent soon. Of course, before working on the new continent, major things have to be completed first, such as questlines that spanned over several years, as well as the obvious things like soul altars, unfinished borders around the edge of Gielinor. It would be pretty exciting to have a brand new continent, with average monsters at KBD-class capabilities roaming the land, katanas and ninja related equipment, new quests and giant empires for players to explore. If combined with advertisement, Jagex is bound to attract a new wave of players by the truckload. Of course, before this major update, they would want to reformat the old coding, upgrade the servers, fix little technical bugs, and make the game grahphically more uniform. Jagex has no intention of adding any more continents, aside from finishing the borders of the Gielinor, the questlines within the land such as the Majharrats, Myreque, Desert and Elven series. Recent trends shows that aside from finishing the bordering regions Gielinor, most new areas have been added to the game in the form of either dungeons or planes in another dimension. With background knowledge of how the Gods of RuneScape created and shaped Gielinor, it would be weird that another continent exists somewhere else that either has their own gods and races, or has similar history and lores of Guthix, Saradomin and Zamorak yet having zero interaction with Gielinor. Not to forget, the God Wars took place in the north, what we know as the wilderness. The LARGEST war in the history of the game took place in that darken piece of land that would take you at most 15 minutes to run around its border. We have almost 100% of our game content surrounding the gods and god wars. Would it be possible for the inhabitants of another continent to be totally ignorant of the war, or to have an entirely new history of their own? It would look like Jagex intended RuneScape to be revolve around the gods and god wars, beefing up the continent of Gielinor with storylines and dungeons. Moreover, certain skills are primarily located within Gielinor itself. Runecrafting and its altars form the basis of what we know as magics. With all the sources of runes within this continent, we can safely assume that any new continent would have no magical related content. Even travelling would be an issue, since we use mainly teleports, fairy rings and boats. Unless Jagex adds the new continent in a very abrupt manner (like suddenly mentioning how Gielinor have trade links with a new continent), then yes, they may be using runes and magic as well, there is a possibility of unknown fairy rings, more spirit trees, and new teleporting spots. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Of course I'm just stating the obvious, either yes there is a new continent or not. But I'm personally more inclined towards the latter, since there's more points to support this hypothesis. Jagex probably have some technical limitation as to how big the world can be, since even stackables in bank have a limit of a little over two billion.
