Tip.It Times - 6th February 2011
The most annoying part of Free Trade returning is that the amount of scammers trying to post scam links on our forums have increased tenfold. <_< I can't say I was excited about them coming back but so far it's not proven a problem to me personally. The GE was screwy at first but it seems to be slowly stabilising.

The effects of piracy on artists
If you weren't going to buy an album, but pirated it, where's the loss? Nobody else loses the chance to buy that album - not theft. You weren't going to buy the music so there's no loss of earnings. Of course that's a bit of a slippery slope but consider it for more than just music. The western anime industry DEPENDS on piracy. If people didn't get the shows from Japan, fansub them, and spread them around, shows would be far more likely to tank if they're brought over here. Most anime that gets released & dubbed in the west needs to have a fanbase already built up to sell it to - without piracy that wouldn't exist.

untradeables in the new wild
^ They either drop to cash or change to another item afaik. Jagex stated that this would happen for untradables - clearly allowing people to pick up chaotics would break the DG rewards system.

Manga/Anime Discussion
Sweet. When you've watched Higurashi (& Higurashi Kai) then watch Umineko :D Made by the same guy, not exactly the same thing but still the two follow the same sort of 'resetting arcs' format :D Just started watching Revolutionary Girl Utena. An older anime, for me at least, but quite good. I'm also downloading Rozen Maiden & Gunslinger Girl. I'm trying to work through 'need to see' anime to increase my power level  I just love being able to create diagrams of anime I've seen, list them... ect. I collect anime, if that makes sense.

Oh the perils of botting
The site wasn't taken down. It is being DDoSed. One of the admins left and started a new botting site due to a lack of pay from the first site. They are both in a DDoS battle to try and steal each other's traffic. Also, it is still unknown who specifically cleaned the accounts. There are multiple admins, no one knows who to trust. There are many different stories floating around now. Some say one of the admins that made scripts did it before he left (like n64jive also said) and then started another botting site and that now the two are ddosing each other. Then there's another story that says the client itself was altered when the site was hacked a while ago, and the admins are blaming it on the former admin just to cover their asses...etc etc. Either way, this just goes to prove that crime never pays  (Unless you're some sort of bot site admin  )

Swiftkit warning
This is what I heard on the RSOF too, that many botter accounts have been hacked. How amusing \:D/ We also have a thread on the recent hacked botter accounts here. :) So seeing as it's not swiftkit, rather botting clients, I'll lock this. Feel free to PM me if you have a question :)

Where is /r9k/ go?
It's been removed and replaced by /soc/ (and possibly /lit/, I'm unsure and can't check from here). It was removed something like a month ago. Anywho, I'm going to lock this thread since it's not a topic of discussion we really need to bring up here and I'm sure a quick google search would help you to find what you need :)

Cyclone Yasi
Oh my God the size of that thing... as if Australia didn't have enough to handle right now. I really hope people can get out of the way... I really do.

01-Feb-2011 - Return of the Wilderness
I read on the RSOF that a lot of people got hacked, actually. From what I heard it might have been to do with visiting dodgy sites

I doubt it, presuming Jagex can combat bots effectively. It was the bots that drove prices down unfortunately.

200M in all Skills
The line is drawn HERE. If you want to discuss something OTHER than the race to 200M in all skills then we have a whole forum dedicated to that called Off Topic. This thread is not being used for a discussion on homosexuality and anyone who cares to treat it as such will be treated severely. There has now been two mod warnings in this thread. Do not ignore them.

Tip.It Times - 30th January 2011
That may well have been a good way to take the direction of the article, yes :) I did feel that I was running out of steam at the end and the first part of the article was written a few weeks before I finished it off for this Sunday so it's hard to keep the flow going. Your suggestion is pretty valid :D I think that when it does come, I'll just adapt. It won't effect my immediate life as I'll just trade on the GE as much as I usually do but the option of having friends give me more gifts and to help out some of my lower levelled friends is far wider. I've never been the sort of person to 'trade on the street' and I much prefer the GE.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
It's hard to get by with 80GB? Try 15. EDIT - Virgin 50mb/s contract is uncapped and unthrottled, perfect for an addict like you :D  They even do such low caps these days?! What is this, 2005? And I don't think I can get those high speeds here :P The Sky Ultimate is uncapped afaik so that'll do, we've had Virgin Media before and it was decent but got too expensive.

Tip.It Times - 30th January 2011
I'm glad it struck a chord with some people. I know those who can understand the Runescape economy wouldn't really appreciate it as much but everyone has their own perspective, right? :) Like I said, I get some of the basic ideas but the finer points just leave me. I've never done any sort of economics. In the UK, it's not any sort of required subject at GCSE level. The closest thing would be business studies that some people took, but not that many. At least when I was finishing Secondary School. So all my economic understanding comes from what I've picked up on the internet. I'm a Computer Science student, economics don't appeal to me, but shouldn't they in Runescape? I should take the time to delve more into Runescape economics but I often feel that I don't have the sort of money pile for it to matter (generally around 2m) and, of course, what we say we should do and what we ACTUALLY do are often two very different things ;)

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
My current 80Gb download cap per month annoys the hell out of me. We usually get by but if I want to download any major amount of anime or want to catch up on a load of stuff on iPlayer then that can really take it's toll. When I'm off Uni, it just goes over the limit almost every time. I'm pretty sure we've JUST gone over it this month. <_< We're thinking of moving to Sky Ultimate (which is fairly cheap since we already have TV with them) as soon as our contract with TalkTalk runs out in a few months. Just have to hold on until then!

Banishing the Revenants 27-Jan-2011
They're seriously not high risk when you're in a massive group of like... 100 players. I went to one last night. It was a great concept but we spent most of the time looking for revs and when we did, they went down in no time because of the huge numbers. This would be an event more tailored to TET where we have less people coming for 'OMG A JMOD' related reasons. and it's not about the reward, why is everything about the reward? >.< The reward is fun, whether or not you find it fun is up to you. I think it had the potential to be more enjoyable than it turned out.

Banishing the Revenants 27-Jan-2011
A bit gimmicky but sounds fun either way. I might go. Also all Jmods can summon whatever whenever, right? I'm sure they don't need devs to help them magic up some revs wherever they want. I presume there's just some sort of godmode code they'll type.

Bombing at Moscow Domodedovo Airport
It may not have the most upbeat discussion but I think feel everyone should be aware of world news even if it doesn't directly affect them. We can even look at this as a reason why we shouldn't complain about increased security at our local airports when events like this are happening across the world. Or how is Russia going to respond? Are they going to use aggressive force to find those responsible? Or is it going to slip under the radar and be shortly forgotten about? Just think, if the bombing happened at Heathrow Airport, would the community be making a bigger deal about it? I tend to agree with you on that point... it's important to be aware of things like this. I read about it on BBC news and it's quite shocking. You don't really imagine terrorists attacking like... Russia. You don't think it'd happen, anyway. I always think Russia is too badass for terrorists :(
