"fake combat level"
Lol. Anyway, it doesn't matter.

What's with zealots!?
I'm a freetinker myself. I honestly don't know whether there IS a god or not, but honestly, there is no evidence to support either side. How did genes and stuff got programmed in the first place? How did life come about? What sparked off the "big bang"? These questions are still some of the greatest mysteries in science probably. But it still doesn't support the religious people, because there is no evidence that god DID do all these things.

Fist of Guthix - Multiplayer
I'm thinking of some special tokens that can only be gained by playing multiplayer FoG...it's equilavent to the normal tokens in terms of how many gained, but can be used to buy different things. Druidic Robes (S) (special): Double the cost in tokens, but no need to recharge. Same for all other robes/gloves. It will still be a waste of tokens for people who do not use it often, but in the long run, you'll save time and tokens.

[Updated 9 Dec] Reviving Smithing : Divinite
What about "Divine Giant Crossbow?" I don't know - it sounds a bit stupid. Or maybe just cut the "miniature" thing and just call it a divine ballista. Maybe a weaker shield than the archfiend shield, but the advantage is that orbs can be attached to it like sigils? The "Arcanist" Shield? I 'm not too sure about the stats for this, you could make it yourself I think. So the orb of protection would be attachable to the arcanist shield, and its "special attack" can be used by clicking "operate". Oh, and I forgot, there should be a +3 or so prayer bonus for the orb too. Also, it has 50 charges. 2 charges per use, cannot stack. 5 minute cooldown after usage of special. Continuing the orbs: Orb of Mastery: (50 charges) +36 Magic attack +1 crush defence +6 slash defence +6 stab defence +14 magic defence +6 ranged defence +11 summoning defence +3 prayer Special attack: Pulse of light. 1 charge. An immediate attack. Doesn't matter if you're in the middle of an attack or not. 125% accuracy but 70% strength only. 1.5 minute cooldown. Orb of Holy Light: (50 charges) +20 magic attack +5 crush defence +13 slash/stab/ranged defence +31 magic defence +26 summoning defence +5 prayer Special attack: Holy Vigour. 3 charges. Restores your prayer by 65% of max prayer. 8 minute cooldown.

The Contemporary Spellbook
I don't see how your logic works. Apparently, everyone has to train specially and make a lot of special preparations like a legion of friends with food or a group of people brandishing scimitars and staffs just to kill a boss f2p monster? And you never said all the minor details in the main post. It was vague and ambiguous, and allowed me to interpret it how I liked. You never said it could be teamed, you never said you NEED NOT fight the "guard monsters". And I never said this quest was to "create mages". It was for mages. But the point is what's the point of doing the quest to gain access to the spellbook when you already have full access to the spellbook? That defeats the whole purpose of this. I'm not saying that no high level mages should be allowed to do the quest, but I'm saying you shouldn't NEED to have high level magic to do the quest.

please delete
I don't think its really necessary. Hundreds of thousands of people would have these capes, and their "uniqueness" would immediately drop because every fourth person you see has one of them.
-
Should F2P get skill capes?
True. Skillcapes should be deleted, but it's never really going to happen. Its too late, everyone will flame as if the membership fee had just been quadrupled.

Skillcapes - Advantageous or Disadvantageous?
Everyone made a mad rush for 99 when skillcapes came out, then when they arrived they suddenly realized a 99 isn't that good after all because 79834 other people have gotten it earlier than you...

Player Safety
Honestly, player safety is basic common sense. Just use your common sense, don't act on impulse and its ABSOLUTELY impossible to scam you.
-
What's with zealots!?
Thing is I like asking question a lot, I wouldn't mind getting flamed after asking for evidence like the OP did. It would just re-inforce my opinion on the matter. Religions are indeed touchy matters, seems you can't discuss them rationally. Err...yeah, because there's no rational evidence that there IS a god, (wait-read the second part before you flame me) but on the other hand, theres' no rational evidence that there ISN'T a god either.

Defence Apparently is Useless.
So one occurence is enough proof to make a statement? Apparently it is so. :? I see... so does that mean visage drops are common for those people who manage to get them within a few kills? (of course not) Sarcasm, sarcasm. ;)

I remember when the scammers were creative.
Lol, exactly. You can't be "creative" in asking for passwords...

Random Events
At least Jagex has been making some improvements to the random event system. Their rewards are more decent, and at least you have a choice of the rewards. Some annoying events have also been removed.

Once a great game. A story/Rant for veteran players.
Removing credit card payment would be a bad business decision. It seems that Jagew are continuously improving their bot detection system, but the botters always seem to find new ways. The goldfarmers issue would not have been solved though. As langer said, removing credit card payments would affect business badly. Although there ARE RuneScape cards, credit cards are still more convenient. Bots are constantly improving. You can never have a SUPER-ULTIMATE-FOOLPROOF-ABSOLUTELY-NO-LOOPHOLE bot-detection system. The problem was spiralling out of control, and drastic action had to be taken. Yes there was a huge need for a woodcut tutor. If you even read the last few posts, this course of action wasn't the only choice Jagex could have made. Every thing Jagex does is bad, sucks, and makes them idiots so why continue to remenisce about the good ol' days? Why continue to live in those times? Move on, seriously. This is 2009. Not 2004. Pull yourself to the present and quit whining. Runescape will continue to change for the rest of the time it is around. I don't think even Jagex knew what the outcome of tweaking and changing the game after restricting RWT would be. Before all of these changes I never saw a high-level player or veteran complain. Now I see lots. Before higher level players were given respect, now veterans are seen as whiners who complain. Hands down the community was better before, now most players AFK. This game is not the same game it was before. Everything is too easy. Some of you see the game being made easier as progress I don't. Skills and levels meant something before now for the most part it means that you afk'd or played some minigame or bought the level. Sometimes, I think Jagex continues to do a lot of little updates because it gives people who don't give a damn something to laugh about when people complain that the little update destroyed the game. Jagex has few updates because this is the year of upgrades to the game. Also they are focussing on Mechscape, which is why RS has less updates even if they won't admit it. Ratchet you may not have liked the game like it was before. I'm surprised that you even stuck with RS as you prefer the current safe version of RS. You seem so bitter about all the scammers. Were you scammed lots? Also even with all the restrictions the cheaters are still around. They buy accounts. They get other people to level their account or directly gather gold for them. You probably are happy with the new game because you can put in less time and get 99's. Before level's meant something. As a player from before it's frustrating seeing the game become easier, having the skills I have 99 in get the make-x option, seeing new minigames that let you level the skill without doing the skill. Skills like slayer used to be respected, now with the new prayers and godswords and the slayer task blocking and summoning slayer is the easiest it's ever been. Even the soul wars mini-game gives slayer exp. I remember when getting 10k slayer exp an hour was considered good. I hate the GE. While it works for basics, it's horrible compared to the free-trade that existed before especially for new items. I hate GE merching, it's nothing like the merching that existed pre-GE that actually needed thought, skill and work. Also the econony pre-trade restrictions was balanced with stable prices. To you though all I'll ever be is a whiny player who is stuck in the past and is sad the wildy is gone. I don't know why I bother arguing. Not that you care, but I think the best update Jagex did pre-trade restrictions was Barrows, this update was accessible by higher and lower levels, and the game was probably the most balanced at that point. As you said, its an opinion. Whether people like ratchet or me are bitter or not are because of personal preferences. You don't have a right to tell us to change our ways because you think its "too bitter". Apparently, you hate the GE. However, you're the minority. I could ask you why are you so bitter about any "anti-rwt updates". The GE brings convenience. It still requires work and thinking to merchant. You have to predict prices accurately. Convenience helps in the tedious work, which no one likes anyway. Don't tell me you "like" tediousness? However, the fact still remains. Skill is still needed for merchanting. "Learn from the past, but never live in it." This saying is very true, especially the second phrase. Why are you still so bitter about the past? Its the past- its unchangeable. Most of the things you mentioned are part of change - a concept which you and many others can't seem to grasp. Every game changes. It can't be stopped. Change might not always be for the better, but it is mandatory. New ways to do things, more convenient, easier, more interesting ways. These are all part of change. Apparently, your argument lies entirely around the fact that "things have become easier than before". Is that the only thing you can say? Making a game easier, smoother and more convenient IS NOT BAD AT ALL. However, if you're so against anything that becomes easier, honestly, why don't you go and live in a medieval castle for a week and learn to appreciate all the conveniences you have? I fail to see how can it be "bad" that things become easier. Its still not very easy to train in RuneScape, compared to many other games. So tediousness is good? Apparently that's what you're saying. How is it good? I fail to see. Explain to me please.

Stealing Kills/Drops/Training/Time
Hmm...*looks around for a "first come first serve" sign* It might be basic courtesy to not steal kills/whatever, but its the internet, and they are tons of rude people around. Just switch worlds, etc. Or use some quick weapons/whatever. Darts? I don't know.

"fake combat level"
Honestly, does it bother you that much that some [wagon] call your combat level "fake"? Just ignore them, switch to your best prayer, get out your best familiars, and thrash them.

Why can't F2P have...?
Yes, and yet another reason why f2p has to be fun. Most people want to switch to members' only at a reasonable level (maybe total level 1000, combat 70-80?). I don't know, since I don't ever plan on switching to members. They're just rough estimates. So, if the game is too boring, they might quit halfway, and Jagex might lose a potential customer. Maybe Jagex has started to realise that, and is trying to put in more f2p content for mid-levels (60-70), just to let them enjoy it and continue training until they decide to switch to members. Some examples are FoG Battle Robes, the rumour of the new f2p quest, and a new f2p skill. However, this is just a hypothesis - I might be wrong.

[Updated 9 Dec] Reviving Smithing : Divinite
Miniature Ballista: A minature version of the huge crossbow used in siege warfare, aka the ballista. Although two-handed and slow, it makes up for it with extra firepower and accuracy. 3 speed. (Attacks every 4.2 seconds) +112 Ranged +117 Ranged strength Very heavy: Maybe 10kg or so? Special Attack: Piercing shot: 75% bar. Shoots a penetrating shot that ignores enemy's armor. However, slower than usual (4.8 seconds needed). Orb of Protection: A large offhand orb, used by mages as a substitute for a shield that still gives magical bonuses. +26 magic attack +11 to all defences, except: +29 magic defence +19 summoning defence +5 crush defence Heavy: 4-5 kg? Special attack: Can only be used if the weapon the mage is using does not have a special attack. Arcane Protection: 60% bar. Cannot be stacked. +20% resistance to all forms of combat. Only +5% to the particular type if "protect from that particular type" is on. I'll try to come up with more orbs later. I know its a very expandable idea.

The Contemporary Spellbook
Told you it wasn't a good idea to add that idiot's ideas. I'll stay on the list for now though. ;) Oh please, dont roll your eyes at me. I posted an idea that I thought could help this suggestion, and you respond by saying that its stupid and would make the quest too hard if it were added. A level 200 monster wouldnt even be that hard for ftp, especially for people who can cast from far away. What does it matter what its combat level is anyways? I find that half of the battle is nerves, so whats wrong with the monster being level 200, even if it is weak. Since you seem incapable of overcoming something that is "hard", I will tell you how you could defeat this troll. First of all, just because you are a mage, doesnt mean you cant use melee armour. Wearing rune legs, chain, kite, and full helm could easily make it possible to get to the troll with enough food. When you get to the boss itself, what stops you from praying? I know that I had 43 prayer when I was ftp. So what stops you from protecting from melee? Even if you only have a minute or so to kill the boss, it would at least help. And if you dont want to pray, use a safespot. Many "hard" quests have safespots for the final fight (monkey madness for example). And for those who wouldnt know to do this, you can bring mage robes in your inventory so you dont have to fight with a negative bonus. So, does this boss still seem so hard? And yes, I know that something else has already put into the guide. What I originally had in mind was a tower which you would run through (not necessarily killing the monsters inside) overcoming barriers put in place to stop you, but I guess the undead fire demon (is that the name) will be fine. I just wanted to post this to show that my idea was not stupid and I am not an idiot. Too bad you didn't post it in the initial post. It would clear a lot of things up. And its still impossible to judge how difficult the level 200 boss would be. Most boss monsters (e.g. elvarg) can be defeated by people about half their level, with average food and stats. So its perfectly reasonable to assume that it would probably need a level 100 player to beat it. You can rattle on with your reasons, but honestly, how much would those changes lower the level needed to slay the boss? 10 levels at most? Even at level 70-80, say, it would still destroy the whole point of the spellbook, because you already have a high level in magic by then.

Skillcapes - Advantageous or Disadvantageous?
Why would you spend more time on a skill than you need to? I for one know that I would rather spend 3 weeks on cooking and take a loss than spend 3 months on it and possibly profit. WHY are you training in the first place? BECAUSE OF SKILLCAPES. This may not be the case for you, but that is the case for a lot of cooking training; yes, although it makes sense to use the faster way to train cooking, how many people would be training it if it wasn't for skillcapes? And although raw fish were apparently worth more before skillcapes came out, skillcapes probably increased the gap. Think about it, how hard was it for you to make that bow? You did two clicks and 1 second later out popped the bow. You can't think of these things in terms of their real life counterparts. Now if ingame it took an hour to fletch each bow, you would probably make a decent profit. Correct, and in the time you spent walking you earned: whatever xp you gained from the item and whatever amount of money it is worth over its raw materials. If you spend very little time on the item (or it rewards a lot of xp), you might end up losing money. Part II: It sounds to me like people aren't complaining about skillcapes, but are upset with a flaw in the game where secondary skills aren't profitable, and you are (inaccurately) blaming skillcapes for the discrepancy. First of all, you guys overlook runecrafting, the most profiable skill and a secondary skill! To make all secondary skills profitable I propose that they make them more like RC: 1- speed up the rate of collecting raw materials and slow down the rate of crafting them. The latter might include increasing the level requirements to craft high level items (or make high level players craft them more quickly a la RC). The former would definitely include making it good xp to gather high level raw materials. 2- increase demand (this might mean you have to raise alchemy values) It's not entirely inaccurate to blame skillcapes for the discrepancy; I didn't realize till I read through this thread that the discrepancy was there before hand, but it still made it worse. Also, as people have pointed out, changes (like speeding up the rate of collecting raw materials and slow down the rate of crafting them) is just going to make an even worse problem. Also, if you double the alch value of say the magic longbow, what would happen is that would double not only the price of the magic longbow, but the price of magic logs, and quite possibly bow strings; and at the end of the day, it would still probably be a loss to make a magic longbow, and the same with alching them. WOOT! FINALLY FINISHED READING THROUGH EVERYTHING. Hmm...my colour makes me the enemy of the topic starter, even though I agree with him... Very good post. I'm sorry I'm too lazy to maintain the list any more... I'll do it now. And in all honesty, most of the people that say they are disadvantageous have more evidence and good points than those who say they are advantageous. No offense though - its a matter of opinion really, like in all debates, and there is no right or wrong answer.
-
Should F2P get skill capes?
I agree too. I don't really care WHETHER they become f2p or not, but I think they SHOULD be f2p. A subtle difference.
-
FoG Hiders
There's nothing wrong with hiding. FoG is all about hiding, running and trickery.
-
Why can't F2P have...?
Definitely. When I see some mysterious option, I always click it out of curiousity, just to find that: "You may only do this on a member's world." It's like Jagex is sneering at you and saying: "Come to the member's world! It's so much better! F2P sucks!"
