When I was less mature... I would answer yes without hesitation. Now... I'd have to lean more toward no. I look at it this way. Sure, you work hard to raise a character, but what does that really get you? Nothing, really. If Jagex were to say that they're no longer going to support servers and that was it... all the work in which you did would be for nothing. With that said, I really don't take pride in pixels that much. I just try and enjoy the game for what it is until I need a break. Then I take a decent sized break and get right back into the swing of things some months down the line. Should there maybe be some pride? Sure, but I also think that some people take games like Runescape way too seriously. How do I know that? Because I was one of them at some point and time in my life. What did I do to fix it? I grew up.

Honestly, and it's probably already been said, but that's the way things should be. Skillers provide the supplies, pkers dish out the Gold. And when PKers get kills... business is good... Die and well... sucks to be you. If you're too lazy to skill, you should have to pay significant amounts. It's not like the stuff spawned on the ground or something. Personally, something like this would be enough to bring more then just some PKers out of retirement. It could easily bring back some mid to high level skillers who could make some decent gold off of certain products. Has me scratching my head, at least.

I would be less concerned with mith bars and more concerned with mith ore. Unless bars get down to a price where ores are, of course. When I neared the end of my last membership I decided to do a HUGE grind at the blast furnace. Bought up enough ores that I was satisfied with, also bought or mined the coal, and then just went for it. Made the bars into plates, put them up in the GE, and sold every single one of them over a long periode of time (wasn't playing to begin with anyways, so I obviously had enough patcience to wait). The origional plan was to get as many bars as I could, then smith them when I was f2p again... sadly I no lifed and they were all gone by the time my membership ran out... but hey... made the same amount of money and exp anyways... so whatever. Buying bars... you would take a hit in exp maybe, but if it were significantly cheaper... it would make more sense. I don't have the time to crunch numbers, I'll leave that to someone who is more dedicated. EDIT: Ok... so I lied... here are the numbers... To take a Mith ore and turn it into a bar using the blast furnace costs roughly 499 (This is buying 1 mith ore and 2 coal). That is using the Market Price provided by the GE. That is a 532 difference in cost between actually buying the commodities and making them yourself. On a scale of 1000... your experience in smelting and smithing from start to finish would be 80,000 exp... while buying the bars would only get you 50,000. So you're spending more money and getting less exp when you could be spending less money and get more exp. And then reselling the final products would actually gain you even more money (more money for me translated into doing this process on a bigger scale).

When I first started, I had friends that would buy skills. It really wasn't my cup of tea. I had a bit of a love for the game, where I was really into the aspects of doing everything that there is to do when making a product. In my case, my skill of choice when I started was mining/smithing. While others would buy their ores and smelt... I was more into investing time in gathering my materials and making it 100% by myself. With newer updates, some of which I didn't even get to dabble in until almost a year after they were released (IE: Blast Furnace)... I found really big profits when I mined all of my ore and coal. Then I ran out of ore that I had stored up for the winter and I started crunching numbers. If I bought my Mith ore and mined my coal, I would still be making profits. So that's what I did. And if I'm correct I basically doubled my money. I'm on the fence when it comes to buying skills. Is it smart? Sure. Does it save time? Definitely. Does that make it right? Eh... if you're maybe making money buying materials... I could probably see it... if you're blowing money buying materials and losing money with the end product I'd have to say I'm against it. If you are investing money in something and you're really only doing about 50%, or less, of the work that you would be doing otherwise... I'd have to say that it's really just bad form. Prayer is a prime example. If all you have to do is buy bones and burry them by just clicking on them (or whatever the popular method is now)... I feel something is wrong with that picture. At the end of the day, the saying "To each his own" is all that it comes down to.

It'll take a little getting use to. I think the user colors on the top of the subforum section and main index section could be toned down just a wee bit. Some of the colors just seem to make me almost go cross eyed, which is something that has never happened to me before when looking at anything at first glance.

Yes, and how is that dumb? I have four dogs in real life. When they turned from puppies to dogs they didn't just magically stop requiring food. It isn't that big of a deal. The fully grown animals don't require to be feed as often. I noticed my dogs hunger was only increasing in 4% increments at most... while it was going up more often at 5% increments when it was a puppy. Some of you people just blow my mind. Making a big deal over something so logical.

Had the ring of charos (a) on when I bought it, there wasn't a charm option that appeared.
-
My only real gripe with dogs is I wish you could do more with them. I like the new interface at least. It gives you a real good idea of how long it'll take for your pet to grow and you don't feel as obligated to feed your pet constantly in fear that it might run off if you miss the pop up messages. My dog might be full grown as early as Friday, maybe even tomorrow.

I'm glad they listened and pretty much did exactly the right thing... What leaves me a bit uneasy is the horrible attempt to justify the price of shards. If the price wouldn't be a problem, there wouldn't be a reason to make a change. For them to justify the price, but then make the change anyways really contradicts themselves in a way. Maybe at high levels you'll break even, but I doubt that and there really wont be much physical proof of that for awhile. And there would be varying results anyways. Fact is, at the low levels, I lost at least 40k... which is probably chump change to what others have lost. So for them to say that you break even is really just an assumption on their parts. I'll be looking forward to the change. Until then, I'll just stick with my origional plan and make as much GP as I can, until the change happens. Might even wait until Tears is applied to this skill and jump up a few free levels, so that I can maybe do some Granite Crabs.

I appauled them for at least doing some damage control by letting everyone know that the skill would be slow, but even you have to admit that the skill is slightly fauled. I just wish that they would get past making people buy levels and get back to what made skilling back in the day fun. If they did that, I would almost be willing to overlook the other handful of flaws. Ability to level a skill shouldn't focus on the amount of GP you have. Now instead of wasting time trying to level an already slow skill... I have to go harvest some GP the best way I know how and THEN worry about leveling the already slow skill. The only plus side to this skill so far is that my dog is over 50% grown. I'll be looking forward to when they allow Tears and Lamps to be used on this skill.

Which is exactly why I'm in no rush. Basically, my plan is to just work on making Yew Longs and alch them. Get about 1 Mill banked and then do a little more serious training in the skill. Tears will raise skill level up pretty fast. Once it's available. Which I'm guessing will be a week or two from now. Got myself 41 Construction and I only ever used one full load of normal planks. And made a Crafting Table and Upgraded it to Crafting Table 3. That's it. Everything else consisted of lamps and Tears. Two undone Achievement Diaries and Tears are probably going to be my best friend in the next couple of weeks. :)

Wait... I thought Jagex wouldn't put a price one newly released items yet... Erm... they almost have to... considering the fact that people will be selling them in the GE.
-
But you have to take into account that you get exp for making the pouches and what not. And if you turn the pouches into scrolls, you get a small amount of exp when you use them. Basically... if they allow Tears of Guthix starting next week, the skill will become slightly easier to level. The main issue is getting the needed resources with hundreds of people running around looking for the same thing. Wouldn't hurt if the shards were a little cheaper though. And I'm sure once I run out of charms... I'll be wishing that old whats his face sold some.

Um, no. They already established that they did this because of bandwidth issues that could occur when the servers are under heavy loads. Which is a very smart move seeing as though it could cause major lag otherwise (and possibly still could at even half capacity). ...Runecrafting ...and if you really want to stretch it... you could probably include prayer as well. Prayer is extremely easy to train now adays. With a lot more creative ways of training. Back on classic the most effective way to train a skill like prayer was to practically buy the levels using other skills. Plus I think it's kind of foolish to think of it as releasing half a skill. All they're doing is releasing EXTRA familiars. If they did it right, it would have absolutely little to no effect on how the skill is trained at all.

First off, it's pretty narrowminded to knock on someone for posting on a forum even after they've quit a game. I stopped playing for well over a year, but was still interested in what was going on with the community and the game. Then again, I wasn't running around telling everyone I quit either... but the reality of it is that I really did quit. Am I back now? Of course, but within the next month or so I will be having A LOT of added responsibilities and my gaming time will be extremely limited, almost to the point where I might not even bother renewing my membership for awhile. People quit games and stick around on community based forums all the time. I still surf forums to past games I've quit/am done with. Your thread seems extremely sarcastic and arrogant. You really shouldn't bother making topics like this if you can't grasp why people do such things. Hell you're probably guilty of it yourself.

Or the runners could actually stop being so lazy and train the skill up themselves like they were suppose to be doing from the beginning. There's an idea.

Runescape is the biggest regret of my life.
Y2g2003 replied to ice_ring's topic in General Discussion
Not going to bother reading every reply like I normally do, but all I see from this post is the failure to take accountability for your decisions. Instead you blame a game. These kinds of topics seem to surface more often then not. And really nothing has changed over the years. And it's the same with any game in general. Don't devote your life to it... that's the driving point. Yet parents and the children who eventually mature into adults blame the games and not themselves. It's even more so annoying when these topics come up, because no one seems to be learning from it. A game doesn't prevent you from doing anything. And the game, especially Runescape, CAN be educational if you are creative enough. There isn't just the math aspects, but also there is literature and problem solving references in the game. Let's face it... no one holds a gun to your head to use quest guides, which can make significant quests that teach you something almost baseless and irrelevant. Really, when it comes down to it... unless you have some sort of physical limitation... it's your fault. You created your own misery (if you want to look at it from a dramatic point). And on a side note... welcoming flames like that is really just childish. You still have a lot more maturing to do. Stupid comments like that really take away from the topic. It was almost as unnecessary as the topic. -
Rs2: Blaming Miniclip For All The Evils Of Runescape
Y2g2003 replied to meili's topic in General Discussion
No joke there either. I remember during my newbie days on RSC... I actually walked in on two people trying to "get it on" in Varrock Castle. Runescape has always been filled with jerks. I remember training down at the skeletons in Varrock Sewers and random jerks would always come down picking fights... some of which would actually follow me when I changed worlds. And back then it was harder to hide since there weren't even half as many servers as there are now. So putting them on ignore did absolutely nothing half the time. Has it amplified? Maybe. Nothing has really changed to me, it's just all the more apparent now because of the mass numbers. Really, looking back, most of the things I experienced on RSC are far more worse then anything I've recently experienced since coming back to the game. Worse case scenario is I get some random low level follow me around, but there are so many ways to lose them now that they aren't even a problem (no method has caused me to go out of my way to lose anyone yet either). There are other games that will be suffering from Miniclip, heck some already have. Puzzle Pirates being one of them. That game could be so much more fun, but some of the newbies have no patcience on sails and usually only stick around for like one battle... and will bail if you lose a battle... it's actually more rediculous then anything that goes on with RS. And the maturity level on a game such as Puzzle Pirates actually effects not just one individual at a given time, but a whole crew of players. Runescape players have it pretty good by comparison. -
20 December 2007 - Development Diary : Summoning & Postbag
Y2g2003 replied to 313smaus313's topic in General Discussion
I'm interested in how this skill will actually be trained. From the sounds of it... actually summoning the familiars wont get you any experience at all... but actually doing combat or having the familiar aide you in skills sounds like it would. One good thing that comes of it is I'll only need to finish the quest to get a dog. And I've wanted a dog for awhile now. And it looks like theres a raven or a crow as well. So I'm tickled to death. -
I look at it this way... if people are too lazy to take the time to level up on their runecrafting... they shouldn't benefit from it. Either that or they should pay the prices that everyone else does. Especially since they're turning huge profits from it, especially if they're alchers. I always did think having people run essence for you was cheesy. I gained my levels the hard way. Gives me more of a sense of accomplishment knowing that, at least. I think with running, the actual point of the skill was lost in translation. The skill was made for mages to have easier access to runes, yes, but I think the origional intentions were for you to EARN the ability to make runes while progressing as a mage. Not to just trade to someone who is almost no-lifing to get to 99 RC (or whatever their intended goal is). Kudos to Jagex in that respect at least. Just a shame something like this wasn't implemented earlier.

Why Runescape will experience inflation in the coming months
Y2g2003 replied to agamemnus's topic in General Discussion
It was my understanding that the GE only effects the "Player Stock"... not the actual General Store itself. Those prices are static. So unless you're basing this on the Player Stock being effected by the GE... your theory is more then likely going to be wrong. -
Half the autoing programs used really aren't that great. That's assuming the people I've seen are actually autoers. I can't speak on the RCing cause I haven't seen them in action first hand... but the auto miners down in the guild really are stupid to a certain degree. You'll see occasional lvl 3s (and other levels, mostly 3s) clicking rocks that were just mined, rocks that have no coal, and attempting to steal rocks from others... while everyone that isn't autoing are trying to respect everyoneelse's space. The programs really waste a lot of time. They aren't making near as much money as people think they are on a single account. The catch is... they are more then likely using multiple accounts at the same time. So while RCers might get nailed by pkers... the losses in which they suffer on that one account is nothing. Especially if they have like maybe 10 accounts going at once. I don't have any figures, but you'd have to imagine that they're making more then what they're losing. I'm sure if they were losing more... they'd find another method.

You did!? Fooled me... Seriously though... why couldn't you just use the BTS thread? There are already people making theories about it there.

3 December 2007 - Behind the Scenes - December
Y2g2003 replied to mr_emflum's topic in General Discussion
....it specifically says that rouge Bounty Hunters can attack anyone. And anyone assigned to kill someone don't have to actually attack that individual. My guess is... if you attack and kill the person you're assigned to kill... you'll get tickets or something as a bonus. That way if a lvl 64 has to kill a lvl 115, they aren't forced to do so (since it's practically suicide). Honestly, Bounty Hunting is the only in-game update that intrests me this month. And I hope it's a safe game, otherwise I probably wont bother. (anyone with moderate combat is bound to get dog piled) And as always, people are blowing gravestones out of proportion. The way the text is worded... when you die, a gravestone will appear. That's it... And you'll be able to get more fancy gravestones for when you die. It's that simple.
