13 December 2007 - "A Word About Our Updates" + Wallpaper
Peronix replied to jonni's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, and they posted this official newspost to let us know that they'd be tweaking the updates to be adequate replacements for the features they've taken away. Even adding new dangerous minigames... -
Didn't they make the limits 8 and 35 respectively? Or are going to very shortly? Where did you hear this? I think he's confusing bank space with lots in the GE. F2P got 8 new bank slots, and P2P got 32... not 35.
-
Aww... yeah you're right, stupid me. A shame, that 5% rule is so restrictive. It should be 10% at least...
-
Umm... Where did it say that?
-
They're removing the 5% rule? Good, now we can actually set our own prices. I hope they also make the prices update faster, so that normal trade isn't so tied up.
-
About the rumors of things being changed back: it's easy to see why so many blindly believed that one. In their hysteria over the recent updates, they would probably hold onto any false hope that their ranting and raving is actually accomplishing anything.

~ Peronix's Blog ~ 85/99 Slayer ~
Peronix replied to Peronix's topic in BlogScape (Ongoing Progress Reports and Goals)
Well, I've thought it through and I've decided that I'm defiantly not going to quit. RC has lost some of its fun for me, but that dosen't mean an update should be able to stop my goal dead in its tracks. Sure I'm going to be making SIGNIFICANTLY less money from 99 rc (like 100m or more less -.-) but it's still a worthy goal. Anyways it's a bit faster now that there are no PKers to worry about. All I need to take are pouches and ess, and also my full black dragonhide has been replaced with ghostly and barrows gloves, and additionally I'm using a sara book now instead of a mind shield. -
Shey was here!
Peronix replied to Sheynara's topic in BlogScape (Ongoing Progress Reports and Goals)
Well said. I was just like you yesterday, I almost lost all hope for this game, but I realized it'll be all right. People like you are what make me scoff at the notion that RSC is somehow superior to tip.it (heard that from a Senior Mod over on RSC after MSSW3... -.- in his words "...compared to the miserable failiure of yours"). Just go over and look at them... so many of them quitting; a lot of members, including mods, have a sig that says "12/10/07, the Day that RuneScape died". Pathetic IMO. -
As many of you, when this update first come out, my opinion was strongly negative. This did come as a shock to many, so you can't really blame people for reacting in this way. But there are so many positive things about this update that I feel many of you may not have even considered. Pros: -Scamming in general has pretty much been eliminated, or it will be in January when they restrict unbalanced trades. "Armor trimming", "Dupe ur items by dropping them and pressing alt + f4", any kind of luring- wildy or non, item switching... anything to do with trade or dropping, since you can't make trades if they are imbalanced, and can't see items people drop or die with...have been pretty much done away with. -"Hacking" (keylogging) and password scamming is now pretty much pointless (or will be in January), since it is all but impossible to transfer items to another player without giving an equal amount of cash for it. They can still drop your items and make you loose it all, but again, that would be absolutely pointless. -Along with the above, I doubt many people will have reason to impersonate Jagex staff anymore. -Real world item trading is now all but impossible. They can still buy/sell accounts. However, from what I understand, account trading is much easier to detect. It's to the point where it is pretty much pinned down. Along with this, there go most of those pesky bots we all hate so much. -No more drop trading. Cons: There are a lot. But most of them can be solved, and without undermining Jagex's efforts to stop RWT. No more merchanting: While this is mostly true, it is still possible to make money buying and reselling items to the Grand Exchange. Do you think an item will go up in value in the near future? Buy some of that item. If and when it does, you can reap the profits from it. No more PKing: I'll admit, this does look bad. The wilderness is barren, and the BH minigame is no substitute in its current state. I don't see the old wilderness being returned, either. There are ways to rectify the current situation, though. 1. Add three more doors to the BH minigame: Single combat areas for low, medium, and high levels. Also make it to where bounty hunters have priority on their prey; so if a RWTer is transferring items to a customer in a 1v1 battle, a hunter can come and PJ them. 2. Expand the clan chat so that it can hold more than 100 players, or make it possible to link clan chats in "alliances" so that Clan War games can have more than 100 on either side. 3. The wilderness is currently an almost useless area. There is some content, like the agility course, rune rocks and the like, but for its size there simply isn't enough. Previously this was perfectly fine, since the whole of the wilderness was a free-for-all PvP zone, but since it's pretty much a normal area now with the exception of the moderate danger from the revenant creatures, it needs more content. Quests, dungeons; things like that. 4. The ditch was a measure against luring. It's an eyesore, but it was necessary. Not anymore, it would probably be best if it were removed. 5. There needs to be more revenant creatures in the vicinity of the Zamorak Mage. Currently abyssal RuneCrafting is way too easy. No more Dueling: This wasn't a result of yesterday's update, but it isn't unlike those. I have to admit, I wasn't all too disappointed to see it go. Its moenymaking potential was near infinite; that needed to change. However, I agree that the 3k cap is ridiculous. It could be raised to a figure in the 100k's without undermining Jagex's efforts against RWT, and it would revive this aspect of the game somewhat. Either way, there still are Duel Tournaments for high stakes wins. If you win one of these, you actually earn the huge sum of cash for being the best, not simply by getting lucky. No more fair Monster Hunting: With the inability to fairly share loot, and the inadequacy of Lootshare to remedy this, come January this aspect of the game could ultimately die. But again, there are ways that loot could fairy be shared. My idea: When you get an item worth over a certain amount as a drop, it would log who was within 16 squares in your Clan Chat Lootshare system when the item was dropped. When you go to sell the item in the GE, you have the option to put it up in a special lot. When that lot sells, it will split the cash evenly and send it to each player's respective collection boxes. RWTers couldn't use this because they would have to actually get the item as a drop in a Lootshare group to put it up in this special lot. No more FFL, FFA or Double Nats services: There's a simple way to fix this. Remove the time restriction, but keep it at 3k above/below market value per trade. Since RWTers usually are transferring LARGE volumes of cash from their bots to them, and from them to their customers, this restriction would make things very impractical for them. If they wanted to transfer say, 30m to a customer it would take 10,000 trades. No more (private) drop parties and gifts: This is a negative I can't see a way around. No matter how you look at it, there would probably be a way for RWTers to exploit a feature that allowed for private drop parties and gift giving. No amount of restrictions on WHO can use it would stop RWTers from using it, since they can just buy accounts. But really, if ultimately this is the only complete casualty of the war on RWT I'll accept it. Gift-giving was nice, but it isn't necessary. Why should you have to profit from having a nice friend? It should be the friendship that counts, not the items they could possibly give you. Doesn't if feel better if you earn your items, anyway? --- I'll admit, in the current state of things, the game is pretty dead. But Jagex has already said that they're not going to leave it like this. These are desperate measures to stop RWTing and all related rule breaking in its tracks. I promise you though, if Jagex were to implement features similar to the ones I listed above, RuneScape will indeed be better than when they started this whole crusade. It won't be the same, but it will be a game almost free of scamming, RWTing, macroing, and "hackings". Doesn't that sound appealing? A final thought: In case you haven't noticed, Jagex just released all the updates they mentioned in BTS in one week (besides the Xmas update). That could very well mean in the following weeks Jagex will indeed be implementing measures to solve some of the above problems.

Boss Monsters ruined, I think i know the soloution!
Peronix replied to hipyhop00's topic in General Discussion
Umm... yeah, the only way that it'll ever be fair with lootshare is if everyone eventually gets a hilt. And lootshare dosen't guarantee that either; for all you know, one person in a team of three could get an armadyl hilt three times. There needs to be something with lootshare that allows you to put say, a hilt up in the GE, and instead of giving the cash to one person in his collection box, it splits it between the team. Of course that function would only be available if you actually got the drop, so as to prevent RWT from using it. -
Jagex's Extreme Measures: "Freedom is not Free"
Peronix replied to Barihawk's topic in General Discussion
Oh god... now I feel so bad for bashing Jagex and their "Incompetence" #-o Hmm, maybe I'll stay at least until my membership expires to see what they'll do with this. -
Yeah, we all know that most other MMO's had no rewards for PvP. That's why a lot of people actually played RuneScape over WoW and other, much more graphically impressive games. To all those people saying that they are glad to see pkers go, stfu. I didn't like PKers much either, but that dosen't mean I wanted to see their fun spoiled. Skillers can be just as arrogant, anyway...

My nearly 100% correct theory. WE set summon prices =D
Peronix replied to Rahila's topic in General Discussion
Even though you were right, I still think your theory was ridiculous. As is this update. -
In 20 trips so far I've yet to see a revenant that can actually attack me. The only ones that could possibly attack me are the dark beasts, and that's only in level 5 wild. Besides, if you drop your pouches you can get ALL your items back, no problem (I dropped 500k on an Angel of Death gravestone). Low chance of dying though, their spells don't even hold you for that long. Abyss RCing is rediculously easy, despite Jagex's lame attempts to balance that out.
-
That's a good side to the update, fixes one problem but makes a whole new one, the one about not being able to fairly share loot. Yeah I know. Not saying these updates are good, just looking for silver linings. That's a very faint silver lining on a black, black cloud... Abyss RCing is still alive, but it's extremely boring now. No abyss pkers to worry about, and where the hell are the revenant ghosts? Like 15 trips done after the new update and haven't even been attacked. I hope Jagex also realizes that they killed pures. Pures were built to PK in shallow wilderness, but now that the only place you can PK for loot in is Bounty Hunter, their accounts are now officially useless.

Holy hell... these updates are... horrible :( I was really hoping that Jagex would lay off the RWT crusade this month, instead they killed pking, drop parties, ffl + ffa, ect. in one fell swoop -.- Considering quitting. None of these updates really effect me too much, but do I really want to stay in a game where over 20% of the population has already quit... -
You can't expect a war that is advertised on many different fansites to be free of bsers. The fact is, there are noobs like that on tip.it, RSC, and any other fansite for that matter. The only thing I didn't like was RSC's reaction to the loss. They're all calling for a disqualification and saying we cheated ect., then they're all asking for a rematch... lol. And then I saw a Senior Mod on RSC arrogantly call tip.it a miserable failure  Yeah... as if having all of RS's best pking clans on their bandwagon makes their community any better.

Not that I care about that though. Thanks. Like I said, I contacted CS and they gave me the green light on the matter. They specifically told me that the function of providing direct links to full worlds ect. is only illegal if done with a third party program. Don't quite get that myself, but w/e... :-s By the way, you need to do the quote thing like this: [quote name="test"]test[/quote] -

Bump Decided to do the clue in my bank this morning. 3 wild clues, guess what the reward was... guthix coif! Darnit. What am I going to do with that? I already have the zam one which looks much hawter. :? -
1. What to you qualifies as abuse or scamming? I only report for offensive language if I am truly offended by what the person is saying, not just because they said a certain word. Scamming includes item switching, lure attempts, "free armor trimming" ect. 2. How often do you report abuse? I report anyone that has, or that I suspect has (macros) committed a serious offense. I report any scammers, website advertisers (the newbs actually parading around saying something like "go to for free RS membership!!!1one", not someone who says tip.it), password scammers; people like that. For macros; like if I'm rcing, and I see some level 65 in full mith/addy, I'll check their stats. Usually they'll have high rc (often 80-90+), and only their agility and mining levels are also ranked. Then after keeping my eye on them for a while I'll report them. 3. Where would you draw the line for who you would report? Since I really only report people for especially bad rule infractions (scamming, advertising scam websites, password scamming, macroing ect) I'd report anyone for those offenses, even a friend. If a friend is capable of such things, they're not really a good friend anyway... 4. Do you warn rulebreakers, if so for what rules? No. 5. Where do you must often see rulebreaking? Mostly in places like varrock.

Peronix replied to Peronix's topic in BlogScape (Ongoing Progress Reports and Goals)
Whoa, I haven't updated this blog in over 3 days! Well, I thought I might show you guys what I've been up to. [hide=Warning][/hide] That's my own runescape worldswitcher that I've been writing. Yes I know "you can't provide direct links to RS worlds"... but that only applies to third party software. This is written in HTML and is entirely browser based. Show me a place in the RuneScape rules that this is illegal and I'll remove it, but I don't believe it is. If it was then that would mean that that desktop shortcuts are illegal, too, because they use HTML files to open up direct links to the RuneScape worlds. The tools on the bottom I wrote myself in Flash. The thing on the left is a calculator (obviously), and the thing on the right is a highscores lookup. Pretty crude, I know. The background is a just a sig from leetsigs that I generated, printscreened, and imported into Flash, and covered up with the text boxes and such. All the code for it is in the "get" button; here it is if anyone has Flash and wants to use it. [hide=Hiscores Lookup Code] onClipEvent(enterFrame){ this.onRelease = function(){ var cont:LoadVars = new LoadVars(); System.security.allowDomain("hiscore.runescape.com") cont.load("http://hiscore.runescape.com/index_lite.ws?player=" + _root.username.text); cont.onData = function(s){ var a:Array = new Array(); a = s.split(newline); for(var i=0;i a[i]=a[i].split(","); } if(a[0][0] == "-1" || a[0][0] == undefined){ _root.rankbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.rankbox.text = a[0][0]; } if(a[0][1] == "-1" || a[0][1] == undefined){ _root.overbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.overbox.text = a[0][1]; } if(a[0][2] == "-1"){ _root.xpbox.text = "Not Ranked"; }else if(a[0][2] == undefined){ _root.xpbox.text = "Not on HS"; }else{ _root.xpbox.text = a[0][2]; } if(a[1][1] == "-1" || a[1][1] == undefined){ _root.atkbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.atkbox.text = a[1][1]; } if(a[2][1] == "-1" || a[2][1] == undefined){ _root.defbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.defbox.text = a[2][1]; } if(a[3][1] == "-1" || a[3][1] == undefined){ _root.strbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.strbox.text = a[3][1]; } if(a[4][1] == "-1" || a[4][1] == undefined){ _root.hpbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.hpbox.text = a[4][1]; } if(a[5][1] == "-1" || a[5][1] == undefined){ _root.rangbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.rangbox.text = a[5][1]; } if(a[6][1] == "-1" || a[6][1] == undefined){ _root.praybox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.praybox.text = a[6][1]; } if(a[7][1] == "-1" || a[7][1] == undefined){ _root.magebox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.magebox.text = a[7][1]; } if(a[8][1] == "-1" || a[8][1] == undefined){ _root.cookbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.cookbox.text = a[8][1]; } if(a[9][1] == "-1" || a[9][1] == undefined){ _root.wcbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.wcbox.text = a[9][1]; } if(a[10][1] == "-1" || a[10][1] == undefined){ _root.fletbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.fletbox.text = a[10][1]; } if(a[11][1] == "-1" || a[11][1] == undefined){ _root.fishbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.fishbox.text = a[11][1]; } if(a[12][1] == "-1" || a[12][1] == undefined){ _root.fmbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.fmbox.text = a[12][1]; } if(a[13][1] == "-1" || a[13][1] == undefined){ _root.crafbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.crafbox.text = a[13][1]; } if(a[14][1] == "-1" || a[14][1] == undefined){ _root.smitbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.smitbox.text = a[14][1]; } if(a[15][1] == "-1" || a[15][1] == undefined){ _root.minebox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.minebox.text = a[15][1]; } if(a[16][1] == "-1" || a[16][1] == undefined){ _root.herbbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.herbbox.text = a[16][1]; } if(a[17][1] == "-1" || a[17][1] == undefined){ _root.agilbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.agilbox.text = a[17][1]; } if(a[18][1] == "-1" || a[18][1] == undefined){ _root.thefbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.thefbox.text = a[18][1]; } if(a[19][1] == "-1" || a[19][1] == undefined){ _root.slaybox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.slaybox.text = a[19][1]; } if(a[20][1] == "-1" || a[20][1] == undefined){ _root.farmbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.farmbox.text = a[20][1]; } if(a[21][1] == "-1" || a[21][1] == undefined){ _root.rcbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.rcbox.text = a[21][1]; } if(a[22][1] == "-1" || a[22][1] == undefined){ _root.huntbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.huntbox.text = a[22][1]; } if(a[23][1] == "-1" || a[23][1] == undefined){ _root.conbox.text = "-"; }else{ _root.conbox.text = a[23][1]; } _root.sumbox.text = "-" _root.archbox.text = "-" } } }[/hide] Edit: Sent a query into Jagex, already got a reply back. I specifically stated that I wrote an HTML file that, when opened, provides direct links to the RS worlds, and the mod wrote back that "I am more than welcome to bookmark worlds using the browsers, but using third party software to perform this function is against the rules." So I guess I'm fine. -

That's based on 20k p ess crafted a week. As you can see from the blog, I've crafted well over 50k on some weeks. I haven't been online at all today (well mabye for a total of 10 minutes). Decided to get a bunch of homework for my electives done today. In one of those classes I am using Adobe Flash... today I coded my very own highscores lookup feature :) Yeah quite complicated for my skill level :wall: -
Most skills do actually have added benefits for reaching level 99. Any skills that effect how fast or well do you "X" activity is a good skill to have 99 in. The combat skills are good 99s for higher accuracy and damage in combat, and stuff like mining, fishing, and woodcutting are good 99s because you can gather resources much faster. And then there are a couple of skills that actually have uses up to level 99. In fact, the only 4 skills that I could find that would be completely useless to have 99 in is the following 4: Firemaking Crafting Herblore Farming All of them are serious money drains, and have no real use past their respective highest level uses. But the capes are nice :)
