I was going to say the same thing as Adventurer, but he beat me to it. In summary; it made things harder where they need to be hard and easier where they need to be easy. I don't see where this update failed. All I see is lazy kiddies whining "Now I gotta replace what I lost to the boss monster who is now as risky to fight as it was meant to be! Waah!"

Wat does the number of people needed have to do ith drop prices? More importantly, why does someone always have to say "No, nub, that wood droop pircez!!11!" everytime someone makes a rant like this? Back on-topic, I think Jagex are missing out on a potentially massive gp drain; as a solution, they could put an optional npc in the room that you'd have to pay to stand on the other tile if you want to solo. Everyone would win; teams could still go together, soloers could go it alone and Jagex gets another money drain to move more gp out of circulation.

Different mods have different standards of professionalism. Some view the rules as guides or suggestions, others see them as the rune-bound will of the gods. Your friend was probably just lucky to get one of the more laid-back ones while you, unfortunately, got a rule-monger.

Why does everyone hate................pures and pc....?
dargonhuman replied to chi13's topic in General Discussion
My problem with pc is that "exp" is more than just a number. There are a lot of hard lessons that people need to learn on the way to 99-whatever, and many of them (and just the general education of the rs world) are bypassed when you sit on an isolated island for three weeks bashing a few thousand portals. I'm only lvl 80-something, but in all the years it took me to get those experience points, I also gained far more valuable game experiences that have helped me make better decisions and be a better player in general, and that kind of experience can't be bought with pc points: ithas to be earned the hard way. Pures, as a concept, I'm okay with; if they want to train that way, I can't stop them. Pures ascommunity members, though, are a bunch of trash-talking hoodlums who get off more on trying to make people angry/cry than actually winning fights. They're like the streetgangs of RS; they're generally reasonably intelligent, but you'd never guess it by the way they act. And, most of them talk a lot about being "tough", but will usually shy away from a real fight unless they've got unfair numbers to back them up. -
A Halo 3 Gravity Hammer. Did someone say Covenant Baseball? Oh, you meant in rs...more bank space. Short of that...I dunno, 20m? Or the hi-alch equivalent in items/material.

Jagex jagex jagex...They got it worng? Again?
dargonhuman replied to sirgudi's topic in General Discussion
Do you realize just how badly you contradicted yourself there? Realistically, RS and everything in it - including our accounts - are property of Jagex. They're not ours to do with what we will, we're just "borrowing" them. That's a very small reason why they don't allow real-world trading or account selling (of course, the major reasons are rl security and stopping in-game cheating). And, also, as the above quote points out, it keeps it so a newbie doesn't need a swarm of lvl-3s to compete; imagine for a moment the mining guild, or worse, all the rune mines filled with accounts that all belong to the same person, an that the same person trades all the ores to his main for massive profits. How is that fair? Sure, he did all the work on all the accounts to reap the rewards, but now no one else can reap those rewards even though they did all the work on only one account. -
Big chip on the shoulder? Plank in the eye? Plz read on...

What does that even have to do with ... anything, really? Anyway, nice one Italian, that made me laugh. -
Do you have your favorite world? and why?
dargonhuman replied to Iwannabehero's topic in Questionnaires
My favorite world is ... whichever one has the fewest people at that moment. My primary connection is fast enough that I don't worry about lag, and I'm not very competitive, so I tend to go to the worlds that aee least likely to have competition. -
I just hate the term "no-lifer". It's impossible to play RS without a life (well, unless the character is a bot, but that's a whole other thread). If a person has no life, then they must be dead, and how xan a dead person play a game? Just because one person's life goals, accomplishments and quality doesn't meet your standards, it doesn't mean their life is somehow less important or less legitimate than yours. If someone stays indoors and playing a game or doesn't have sex (either by choice or by circumstance), it doesn't make them less of a person or diminish their quality of life when compared to a person who goes out every weekend and has regular sex. As an example, my two closest friends both lost their virginity at young ages and because of that, they consider themselves better than me because I'm still a virgin. Yet, my life is, generally, less stressful and happier than theirs because I don't have to suffer the depths of sexual frustration they regularly go through when they can't have sex for extended lengths of time. They keep telling me "You don't know what you're missing," and I can't help but think, "I'm happier for it, too." Getting back to my main point, people these days are so obsessed with making everyone just like them that no one stops to think about the other person's circumstances; who's dto say that a kid playing an mmo ten hours a day isn't better off than his neighbor who plays basketball at the park and dodging bullets from drivebys every other week because they live in a bad neighborhood? Who's to say that the virgin college kid who stayed home playing twenty straight deathmatches on XBox Live isn't healthier than his roommate who hooked up with a chick at a party and contracted an STD from her? Why can't the lvl-87 Scaper with a full friends list (most of whom he knows irl and chats with frequently) be just as - or more - socially successful as the kid who hangs out at the mall with his twenty friends?

That's the only complaint I have about the censor; it'd be nice if it had contextual filters (i.e. saying "dam that sux" would get blocked, but saying "I'm by the dam-like thing in Lumbridge" wouldn't), but I have no idea how easy or hard that would be to implement, if it were even possible. Otherwise, I don't really see the problem. There's no real need to swear in-game anyway; it's not like typing it out will give the same sense of release as just saying it out loud, and saying instead of typing won't get you banned (well, it won't get your account locked, anyway. I can't say for sure what the rl consequences of swearing out loud would be for anyone.) If it's really that much of a hindrance to your normal speech, may I suggest working on expanding your vocabulary to include more non-vulgar words?

Always bring food, an escape plan (tele rines/jewelry/tab) and never bring valuable items to dangerous places, especially while doing quests. It's a hard lesson to learn, but you won't make that mistake again, I bet. Sorry for your loss, though.

Everyone keeps (wrongly) bringing up scammers names and other inane reasons for this update, but has anyone stopped to think that maybe all Jagex did was delete the old alphanumeric table that had un-dashed 0's? What I mean is, maybe they had two seperate alphabet sets, one for account names/chat and one for everything else. If that's true, then this update most likely is the result of them putting all on-screen text on the same alphabet set to delete the old one. Just a thought.

Tip.it Times Presents: Realistic Games? No thanks.
dargonhuman replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
I've actually debated this irl with friends, and I will always be in the gameplay>realism camp. It doesn't matter if the realism is graphical, physics or gameplay mechanics, if pushing the realism of a game detracts from the fun, then it hurts the game. I'll use Halo and Gears of Wsr to illustrate; one of the things I love about Halo is that, while you can use cover in your stratehy, you don't have to. The games are balanced enough that you can go kamikaze and tear into a group of enemies using only melee attacks and still come out on top. Whereas in GoW, you're basically forced into using their cover system to survive. Realistic, yes, but I felt that it made the game slow, boring and tedious. And very annoying when an enemy sneaks around your cover and blasts you before you can even turn to see him. In relation to RS, there have been a number of rants complaining that This Weapon is overpowered compared to real life, or That Armor is more powerful in real life and it's not realistic blahblahblah. My response is always (and yes I didsteal it from someone else) "You're complaining about the realism of a weapon you're using to kill mythical creatures with?" Granted, some realistic balance is necessary to keep the game fair and fun, but really, complaining that spears are too powerful compared to their rl counterparts, and then actually comparing their seperate attributes is a little silly and a lot trite. If spears were made uber-real, then no one would use them. With their "poetically licensed" embellishments, they're a little more legitimate as useful weapons. Realism is fine to a point, but it shouldn't interfere with the fun factor of a game because once that happens the realism no longer services the game but hurts it. -
They should have you put in a valid CC number (even if you aren't members) to prove that you have your parent's concent and permission to play. That way no bots would be made, no little kiddies would play.. Two reasons why that's a bad idea; 1) too easy to get around. Kids are smart these days; they can wait until mommy and/or daddy are distracted or gone, get their cc and do it themselves. 2)That would be completely unfair to the adults who want to play, but don't have access to a cc and can't get their own. There's absolutely no justifiable reason someone should need a cc to play a free game. Back on topic, the third-party software rule is a bit harsh, I think, but the others do make sense when the big picture is taken into account.

Tip.it Times Presents: What's your final goal in Runescape?
dargonhuman replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
Same here. I mostly only play to kill time, though I do set mini-goals just so that I actually have something to do when I need to kill a little time. My mini-goals most often fall into mining 100 mith/50 addy or enough coal to smith it all, but I really don't have any long-term goals as such; I'm not striving for any particular skill levels or collectibles or what-have-you. Sure, it's always nice to see that I've gotten a level in the skill I'm using, and a 99 skill would be fun, but I'm not going to stress out if I don't get to lvl 78 Cooking by next week, and if I never get a 99 skill (or even break lvl 100 cb) before either the game dies or I quit (or die myself...always a possibility), I'll still have had a (mostly) great time getting to where I did. -
That made me laugh because it's true for the most part. My reasons for why someone should stay f2p are p2p can be overwhelming and quite difficult if you're improperly prepared. When I first got members, I was only level 40- or 50-something, and died (or came very close to dying) because I wandered into the wrong area by mistake. The worst is White Wolf Mountain; the bulk of the p2p map is across this treacherous hill, but it's populated by mid-lvl Wolves who shred unwary low-lvl travelers like so much tissue paper. It's not so hard with the Run feature, though. In addition, there are eight new skills that are all time-consuming (and sometimes confusing or frustrating), a ton of new quests, weapons, armors, items, training spots, features (like alternate transportation, minigames, etc), and all of it kind of assaults you at once. Another good reason is members is more enjoyable if the majority of your f2p skills are at least to lvl 30. Like I said before, I was a low-lvled newb the first time I got members, and that experience was very limited as a result. The last time I got members, my levels were much better and I was able to do a LOT more, which made the experience far more interesting and rewarding; Instead of only wishing Icould do something or go somewhere (and being disappointed that I couldn't), I was actually able to do it. Even if it wasn't what I imagined, my curiosity was at least satisfied. There are good reasons for staying f2p. There are better reasons for going p2p, but they're not relevant if you don't want to upgrade.

Best place to mine coal for lvl. 58 mining
dargonhuman replied to outthere65's topic in Help and Advice
Although you may not want to take this advice, given the recent pvp Wild update, I'd suggest the skeleton mine; it's not terribly deep in the wild (lvl 9/10), is very near the Monastery if you need quick healing, and Edgeville bank is pretty close, though there is a bit of walking involved. The upside is, despite the distance, it's still faster than the guild (or sometimes even the trucks) since there's hardly anyone out there, so no competition. Most pkers tend to ignore it, too, preferring the more profitable Rune mine or the Green Dragons. -
I don't even watch runescape movies on youtube; most are just lame pk vids, and those that aren't are boring to the point of tears, so if anyone ever did send me a link or email to that purpose, I'd ignore it by default anyway. Besides, why would I want to waste time watching someone else play rs when I could be playing myself?

If You Found 250 Million Coins. What Would You Buy? 20k views
dargonhuman replied to a topic in Questionnaires
I'd stick it in my bank and sit on it until I got members again, then I'd get tons of herblore, farming and construction supplies (and possibly fletching, though probably not) and train those skills like a madman. When I had members, those three were the hardest for me to train because I never have a lot of cash in rs. Oh, I might also buy some new armor and weaps and probably some pure ess for rcing. If I had anything left over after all of that, I'd buy smithing materials. -
Now that's funny.

I've always viewed time as a roll of toilet paper; each measurable unit is the same, it seems to never run out at the beginning but there's never enough at the end, the end usually comes far sooner than expected, and more often than not, it gets filled with crap you'd rather forget. Philosophically metaphorizing (are those even words?) aside, sometimes time goes by quickly for me in rs, but not usually.

Welcome to Runescape. Good with money. (examining the north-eastern banker in Edgeville bank.)

Ever wish Jagex didn't update something?

The new mining animation and the veined rocks immediately spring to mind. Oh, and the new pvp preference over npcs in the Wild. -
New Wilderness Update: Player > NPC in Single Area
dargonhuman replied to muggiwhplar's topic in General Discussion
From what I've seen, if the pker is under attack by his own npc, he has to kill it before attacking you. But, since the update, I've only been attacked once, so my observations are hardly conclusive; it will take many more attacks and possible experimentation with friends to know for certain. If I'm right, though, the meatshield strategy should still work to an extent; during my experience, the hobgoblin stopped attacking me when the pker started, but that same hobgoblin then turned on the pker, who seemed to want to keep hitting me, but was unable to until after the hobgoblin was dead. And Valheru, you obviously aren't paying attention, since the Wild update came out almost a week before the Glouphrie post, which is where the confusion came from. -
Harhar. Though, which god are you thanking, Zamora the sod farmer, Saruman the White or Gutter the...well, lets not go there. But that's pretty sad (in a funny sort of way) that they had to put that disclaimer on their site. Poor eyesight/monitors has nothing to do with crappy typing/spelling skills or general stupidity, walletthief. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out jadex.com has nothing to do with Runescape, even without the disclaimer.
