What do keyboardists have to do with anything? Anyway, they sound pretty cleche. Kind of just like any emo/nu-metal (different subgenres, I know, but they sound like a mixture) band out there, except with a girl singing. And their musicianship isn't too impressive.

Katatonia - Ghost of the Sun Phwoah.. Until I heard that song just then, I didn't realise how much I like this band. Awesome.
-
Isis - Carry Very powerful piece of music. Especially in the chorus.
-
I love you. Anyway Poison the Well - You Will Not Be Welcomed I'm under the impression I've already put this song on this thread, but it deserves to be put twice. Amazing song. It's one of those songs that you'd have to listen to it 1000 times, in a row, to get sick of it. and Behold... the Arctopus - Spaceturtle Basically I'm in love with this band.

I'm in year 11 at the moment. 3rd term. But year 11 only has 3 terms, so in about 8 weeks, I'll be going into year 12. :)
-
Dragonfocre - Through the Fire and the Flames. Yey for speed metal with amazing guitarists. Haha, I love the solo in the video clip. They've got hand cameras on the guitarists. :)

Not a bad band. I have found it a bit hard to get into their music though. I think their vocalist annoys me. Vital Remains - Dechristianize and Vital Remains - At War With God Could get a bit same-old, but this really is very high quality death metal (call their style of music what you will, but death metal seems a suitable term). I really like the high melodic lines they create with the guitars going over the pounding drums, low screaming vocals, and chugging guitar. Only really found out about them recently, but they're a pretty addictive band.

I used to be a Chrisitian, and I will never homosexuality as a choice for my own sexuality, but one of the reasons I stopped being a Christian (not the only one, don't worry) is because of the discrimination against homosexuals in the Christian community. Sure, if people ask you, let them know your beliefs, but if they don't want to know, butt the hell out. Basically I get really frustrated with anyone who discriminates against gays. I could never be attracted to a man, but if people are attracted to people from the same sex as them, it's their business. Just a note, I believe homosexuality is a choice.

The Devil Wears Prada - HTML Rulez d00d The title doesn't really give this song justice. It's very addictive and catchy.

Well, I'm incredibly poor, so mp3s.
-
Philip Glass - Koyaanisqatsi Very minimalist, but I love the atmosphere it sets.

That's a fun game. :) I went on this week-long hiking camp for school, and for one of the days, we couldn't move, because it was a white out (in retrospect, we really should have moved). So for that day, I was just in a tent with some other people, eating soup and playing cheat (or bullsh*t). I got pretty alright at it.

And lollypops. Anyway, I despise 50 Cent. I hope he dies in a hole.

They get together in 1, 2, and 3, but all of their attempts at a relationship die in less than a week. :)

We watch Scrubs. Well, everyone bar Dad. Heh, couldn't think of anything.

[HIP HOP]New Songs:Hip Hop and I Heard Wayne Retired
Intriguing replied to i123i's topic in Off-Topic
Not too bad, better than I expected. I like your rapping segments, but I really don't like the MCing parts (as in, the intro to Tension), but that's more to do with my stylistic tastes. I also like the melody playing throughout Listen. Your words really flow, and you obviously have talent. I can't really review the content of your lyrics at the moment though, due to people sleeping, and because I not having headphones, I can't turn it up louds enough. On that note, it would be a good addition to add the lyrics to each of the songs on the MySpace play. But overall, quite impressive. P.S. Are you MC Chaos or Big C? -
Mogwai - Auto Rock and Mogwai - Close Encounters and Mogwai - Cody Ahh, you gotta love Mogwai. They're kind of minimalist, and even flat out repetitive in some songs (e.g. I Know You Are But What Am I?), but they're still brilliant.

I'm going into the 4th week of Term 3.. Last term of year 11. Yey.

Kanye West - Jesus Walks Probably a bit of a cleche song, but the rhythm and the small instances of melody in the chorus of this song really appeal to me..

I had a dream in which my dad was a blue skinned bird-man with a really soft scalp. And he was out to get me. That's all I remember. I have really weird dreams.
-
Gravenhurst - Flowers in her hair Alternative folk. Brilliant band. I have an unhealthy obsession with them. This song isn't too amazing though. (Just bought the entire album Black Holes in the Sand off some MP3 site, because I got sick of trying to find the songs on Limewire..) Gravenhurst - Still Water A pretty good song, this album has a sort of same-old feel about it though. They definitely got better with Flashlight Seasons and Fires in Distant Buildings.

Can you say "irony"? Stop trying to be cool. No one thinks you're cool.

Oh goody. :) Probably the best way to gain my respect when it comes to music is to have a varied taste in music, as free as possible from close-mindedness, and you seem to posess that. Anyway, to my music preferences, my taste really varies quite a bit, so I'll just cut it down to my favourite bands in various genres (not all the genres I like are represented here, just the ones I like the most). Death Metal/Heavier Metal : Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Nile, Necrophagist, Bloodbath, Ed Gein, Glass Casket, Satyricon. Metalcore/Other Metal : Between the Buried and Me, HORSE the Band, the Devil Wears Prada, Poison the Well, Ion Dissonance, Dragonforce, Dream Theater, August Burns Red, Opeth, Isis, From First to Last. Indie/Alternative Rock : Death Cab for Cutie, the Arcade Fire, Say Hi to Your Mum, Metric, Bloc Party, Art Brut, Muse, the Stills, the Postal Service, Placebo, PlayRadioPlay. Experimental/Soft Rock : Gravenhurst, Battles, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Arab Strap, Clinic. Instrumental : Behold... the Arctopus, Buckethead, Tommy Emmanuel, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steve Vai. Jazz : Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald. Rap : Kanye West, Tupac, Talib Kweli. Classical : Lalo, Shostakovic, Philip Glass, Bartok, Godar, Tartini. Acoustic : Joshua Radin, Damien Rice, John Mayer, Jack Johnson. Other : Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Imogen Heap, Ratatat. I probably went a bit overboard, but that's about all I could cut it down to.

Um Iron Maiden? Their music is mainly sung with occasional shouting/ harshness. The guitars are distorted but not alot and they use a single bass drum. They also pretty much define what heavy metal is. Note how I said "nor does all metal contain it". I was making a generalisation about modern metal. Basically what I was saying was, if a band screams, uses double kick drums, and heavily distorted guitars, which all the bands that the guy mentioned do (with the exception of the band he provided a myspace link to), then they are a metal band. However, a band does not need to possess those particular qualities to be a metal band, nor is metal simply confined to those qualities. And Iron Maiden doesn't really define what metal is. One subgenre perhaps, but not the entire genre. I'm not meaning to slur you here, this is just because I'm not quite sure what you mean. What viewpoint of mine do most people disagree with? That the majority of metal (with the exception of older metal bands, particular from the 70's to the mid 90's. I'm more or less talking about modern metal.) contain screaming and heavily distorted guitars? As I said in my previous response, I am aware that metal is not confined to those qualities, but it does contain them widlely, certainly more widely than any other genre I know of.
