  1. I wish I knew Japanese. With sub or dub, you can never really be sure what you're reading/hearing is what the writer intended. I notice with Bleach, between the sub and the dub, or even between 2 separate subs, the content can change dramatically. In fact, in Naruto, the meaning of some things seems to be completely changed. Luckily I found what I believe is a pretty good translation set of Bleachs/Narutos that seems to pretty much say what they are saying whether it makes sense to our culture/language or not. I should learn Japanese.
  2. Obviously almost no one could...I'm 5'8, and have probably the smallest verticle possible for someone of my height and weight. Essentially all the muscle I have is in my arms; my legs are very scrawny and the gym teacher used to yell at me to jump higher in volleyball. Which I obviously couldn't.
  3. Ugh, it won't work. It plays 1 or 2 and then the next one doesn't load. I think it's my school connection.
  4. Mildly humorous, but it seemed like he was trying too hard. Didn't seem very subtle at all...
  5. My best gaming moment was in Ravenshield. I was a PVT in a clan for like 3 months (that was their rank for those who are sort of on probation). Anywho, I didn't get in; I was only like 13 and they claimed I whined too much and was too cocky (I was better than all but one or two in the clan, so it wasn't like it was without reason). So I was really mad that I didn't get in, despite my skills, but that clan was never a competitor for matches anyway. Anyways, that week or thereabouts I went into the clan server, and I'm not sure why but all the clan guys teamed up against me and 3 nubes (there were 5 of them, including the 2 best in the clan, and one of the leaders who blew). So my whole team was pretty useless, but in the very first round we played, I went on a spree and killed all 5 within about 20 seconds and was so very pleased. Then I gave a really cocky comment (can't recall what it was) and exited. I don't think I ever seriously played with any of them again, but I did get some interest from a much more competitive clan, like among the top 10 or so. However, their 'best player' was found to be a cheater shortly after and the clan sort of fell apart in shame, so I never did join. And that pretty much ended my time playing Ravenshield for good. Those were good times. Incidentally, when playing with the 'best player' of the second clan, a cocky bastard that I was I would often call him a cheater when playing against him and losing. All the guys in the clan told me not to, that he was sensitive about it and didn't like when people called him cheater. Even though it turns out that he was, in fact, cheating. As for my most thrilling single player moment, that was in KOTOR. Possible Spoilers ahead [hide]KOTOR was the first true RPG that I played, and I was enjoying it a lot. And then the twist game, and I remember thinking "GAMES CAN DO THAT?!" Since I hadn't played other RPG's or many story-driven games, I wasn't really expecting it. I mean, there are twists all the time in action games, but the plot isn't that important, and you're not connected with the characters as much, so it doesn't seem all that important. But that completely floored me. It elevated that game from like, rank 20-30 on my favorite games to within the top 5. It completely changed how I thought games could be, and I would say is one of the defining points in my gaming career because it not only led me to seek out the best CRPG's (Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Fallout etc). I could find, but also broadened my horizons from the standard FPS/RTS games I had exclusively played before.[/hide]
  6. I watched the first episode of Death Note, since I'm kinda in a boring arc in Bleach now. Very solid, I dunno if I will like it as much as Bleach or Naruto though, as it seems dead serious. That might be good though, I'm not sure. I'm gonna catch up on Naruto and Bleach before I start watching seriously, though.
  7. We don't know what you have. But get something for your PC :P . Nice headphones, a decent speaker setup, an expensive keyboard or mouse...
  8. OMG, the rotations completely mess you up. I also kinda don't like the 'gliding' it gives you on the keyboard side. Edit - Got 3:05 Can you get hit during a rotate?
  9. It's not like, even if there was a criminal investigation, they would get in any trouble. The cops are cops, they seem to be able to do pretty much anything they want. You make it seem like they're corrupt beyond corrupt. They are kind of corrupt. Obviously they don't go around murdering people or trafficking drugs (some might), but they (cops as a whole) seem to be more intrusive than necessary on people who's crimes are minimal. And it's not like anyones going to stop them. Edit - I just went and watched the video now. Completely inappropriate use of a taser. They came to talk to him, he didn't speak English, so he backed up frightened and they tased him. Completely unnecessary use of force. Cops are supposed to be trained to deal with people by doing other things than electrocuting them because its easy. It reminds of me of that "Don't tase me bro" guy a few months ago. Like 8 cops surrounded him and got him to the ground and tase him. He didn't even commit a reasonable crime, nor did he show any sign that he wanted to harm anyone.

I'm a not a console gamer, but saying the PS3 has nothing going for it is completely false. Sure, the Blueray thing isn't that big of a deal as it hasn't really caught on as much as hoped, and right now it started out kind of slow but it's getting there. Both Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Rachet and Clank have done well in the last little bit, as well as PS3 having it's fair share of cross-platform games (Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, F.E.A.R. etc.). Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm, Resistance and Warhawk are all capable games as well. But PS3 still has the future games to bank on. I'm talking the huge followings of Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Kingdom Hearts, God of War, SOCOM, and to a lesser extent Killzone. There's no way the PS3 will completely flunk this generation; it might fall behind the 360 or maybe just lose its monstrous lead, but there's no way it's going to fail. And the Wii is essentially a different kind of product from the 360 and the PS3, so it shouldn't really be counted (plus: The Wii's future looks grim, once we get past the huge boosts Galaxy and Brawl will give it, there just isn't the 3rd party support there. There's only so many Mario, Zelda and Metroid games you can put out, and there needs to be better third party support if it wants to keep its sales hot.)

OC your video card maybe? :-k You think it'd help? If you're curious my specs are: CPU: Intel 2 Duo core 1.8ghz Mainboard: Nvida 660i Memory: 2GB DDR2 HDD: 360GB Video: Nvida Geforce 7900GS 256mb Sound: Onboard Power: 550W Thermaltank OS: Windows XP SP2 I personally think that the 256mb on the video card is hurting me the most, but maybe not. Yea you could be right. I betcha OCing would get you some gain, whether it would be noticable or worthwhile I couldn't say. <3 640mb version of GTS.

Thanks defender. So I assume you're using stock cooling as well? :) I too am using the E6300 for the same reasons. Also, about dual core -- its two seperate processors working together. I.E a 2ghz dual core is two 2ghz processors, not one 4ghz. Obviously games that are made to run on dual core will be able to benifit from both cores, I.E have certain objects running off of one core and others off the other. You could have physics and such run on one core and AI running on another, as an example. I think I'll give some OCing a shot -- see if it helps. What res are you going to be running Crysis at? If it's a relatively low res (1024x768) it might give you a few extra FPS, but at 1280x1024 it will be negligable and at 1600x1200 it will be no real gain. I'm looking at this: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6182806/p-6.html It also says the requirements of 1gb of RAM are pretty correct if the rest of your machine is up to par. No FPS change, just slightly slower loads.
  15. Well first, '[garden tool]' was "an exclamation of surprise and delight" (from dictionary.com) long before it was a poorly pronounced version of a lady of the night. And since when is someone calling out a slang name for them derogatory to women; Santa is not announcing that someone is a [garden tool], or even that a [garden tool] is a bad thing (and, indeed it implies otherwise as he seems especially jovial when he proclaims it). People really need to not think into these things to much, it's such a waste of time and energy.
  16. These quotes are about Bleach. You've been warned. [hide]Momo ain't dead foo'.[/hide] [hide] she looks pretty damn dead to me. but so do a lot of other characters when they "die" i guess.[/hide] [hide]Wow, coincidence. I seriously just watched that episode like 10 minutes ago, and came around here to shout out to the world how good Bleach is!!! And I was kinda hesitant to open these hides because I knew neither what show you were talking about or what point, and it just happened to be the right show at the right point. Freaky. Yeah, Unohana said Hinamori avoided death for now. Anyways, I love this show. It was sorta a bit slow to begin, but from like episode 15-now (I'm on 61) it's just gotten progressively sweeter. I was thinking, where are they gonna go after this: Byakuya is going to get killed by Ichigo and save Rukia, then what...And then like, 20 plot twists later (I sorta knew something was up, though I thought maybe Ichimaru was actually good [nothing is as it seems]) and we are where we are. So excited to continue![/hide] Bleach owns. IT OWNS. The story is amazing, the characters are pretty cool, the humor is consistently funny, and the fights are of mixed quality, ranging from 'meh' to 'Woah' but usually somewhere in between. I think I still like Naruto a little better, but that could be because I've seen all of it (not Shippuden yet, but soon). I don't think the story is as good (it's not really as mature or complex), but the characters are very unique (making the dramatic moments more hard-hitting) and the fight scenes are most of the time phenomenal. I'm slowly becoming addicted to anime (it went from ~1 hour per night at the start of semmester to ~3 hours a night now). And I'm so glad that there are so many other allegedly great animes that I can watch when I run out of Bleach and Naruto (I'm thinkin, first Death Note, then Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin, Ghost in the Shell...). Is Dragonball GT worth checking out? I watched the entirity of Dragonball Z when I was like 12-14ish, but I've sort moved on to more modern, story-driven anime. There was a lot of staring and screaming in DBZ that I donno if I would be able to put up with now. And despite loving DBZ, I didn't really get much entertainment from the few Dragonball episodes I watched. Final Comment, @ Jaziek [hide] I seriously almost sharted my pants when I watched that ep. Soooo goood.[/hide] Note: I'm aware I sound like a rambling noob in this post, and that I use an excessive amount of bracketed comments, but it's 3am and I just got off a 4 hour Bleach binge so cut me some slack.
  17. How did he die? Is there more to the story? Did he get part of the way in, realise he couldn't make it, and die of despair? I don't understand.
  18. Wait, if your last name is latin and translates to 'powerful in battles', and you want a tattoo of 'powerful in battle', how could it possibly be something different from your name? :-s
  19. Carefull there spaz, don't be blowin' your mind because of your own ethnocentrism. Actually, I don't even think this is worth arguing about, I'm lazy and it's a waste of my time dealing with arguments from people with a completely uninformed worldview. I just kind of wanted to like, highlight this so that it will argue itself for me. :)
  20. Isn't it called "Georgia On My Mind"?

My fears exactly. I saw the demo, picked it up, read the requirments. I then put it back down and thought, do I want to spend about $100 on a new graphic card, RAM, etc. plus around $50 to buy it. Answer=no. Looks like a cool game but, too much requirments for my old tub, the most it runs is Oblivion... and EVE-online when I used to play. What are your specs? This is just out of curiosity; if you don't think your computer is good enough it probably isn't and you shouldn't bother because it wouldn't look nice, but... The comp I have listed as my old comp barely ran Oblivion with only 512mb RAM. And by barely I mean, 3-8FPS outdoors, 2-3 minute load times+frequent crashed during load times. When I got another gig of RAM in there it ran pretty good...FPS ranged from about 20-40, low-mid graphics and high draw distance. It runs Crysis on low without too much difficulty, probably ~15 FPS. So anyways, my point is that Crysis has done a fantastic job of scaling, and if it ran Oblivion well in any way, it should run Crysis only a bit worse (and look a whole lot better too).

There's a 720mb GTS? :-k Yea, I would have opted for a Q6600 had I waited a while - it's only marginally more than I paid for my e6400 now :wall: , but it was like $650 or something when I was putting mine together. I think I will probably spend a while tweaking everything before I start playing, ranging some settings on Medium to some on very high (there is a way to modify the game so that very high settings become available in XP, if you have not yet heard).

If you wanted food, why not take a big cow or something. Or would you have this dude dance around for your pleasure before consuming him? :-s
  24. This isn't all that much different a concept from genital mutilation which is commonly practiced in many villages in Africa, and perhaps other places. Purposefully inflicting damage to your childs body for the sake of beliefs.
  25. You might try tweaking Dosbox. I had serious troubles getting an old, obscure game to run (not that ES is obscure, just this is proof that Dosbox runs most things), and I went on their forum and read the FAQ and was able to tweek the config file to run it better. If that fails, certain versions seem to be better for certain games: ask on the forums there, I'm sure someone has had a problem with it.
