Attention all Offtopic Users...Project Offtopic is Underway
Sure, any way to reduce rulebreakers, trolls and the like is good. Though one thing I don't entirely agree with...Why G? Why not PG? Is the age requirement for this forum not 13? I would even push for PG-13, but I realize that there are those who are not 13 yet, but have gotten parental consent. To be honest, PG isn't even that much harsher than G, I actually don't understand the difference...Some mild language (Which should be allowed? Not full out swearing but some...), maybe a bit of violence (Come on...If RuneScape were a movie it would probably be rated PG...), and maybe some small references to more mature topics. However, I agree that content that could be rated R shouldn't be allowed at all, while most thirteen year olds these days have probably seen a good handful of R rated movies, morally, that stuff shouldn't be allowed. But yes. While some threads could controversially be seen as PG-R borderline topics, some have gone too far over the line...Though they could be funny, they were inappropriate as well. While I don't mind, I'm sure there are some who do. And maybe sticky this?

racist question
On that note, I don't like a good amount of Chinese people. And everyone assumes I'm Chinese, my friends are Chinese, and I guess I'm partially Chinese. But I'm mainly Taiwanese. Go figure. The thing with racism is that it's not about who you hate. It's about why. If you hate a bunch of people that just happen to be the same race, you may not be racist. However, if you hate those people because of their race, that's racism. If you dislike them for their personality, for the way they treat you, whatever...It's probably not racism... And I thought of something, as I remembered a conversation I had with a Haitian guy. The word "black", used to describe someone, shouldn't be racist at all. In fact, to be honest, perhaps it should even be the proper term. Haitians, and people from other islands in that area, are dark-skinned, or black. They appear to be African-American, but they aren't. The guy I was talking to absolutely hates it when someone calls him African-American...And if you took one look at him you probably would think he is one. And what is wrong with the word black? It doesn't have any negative connotations that I'm not aware of, does it? It's used to describe people's skin color, just like white. I know this has already been said, but why is "white" acceptable but not "black"?

Do people really consider video games as "sports"?
Heh. Korea. Only in Korea. Where else... This reminds me of an argument some of my friends had a while ago, as to what constitutes a sport. The activities/sports that were mainly being argued on were track and field, ballroom dancing, ice skating and chess. (Okay, we all agreed that chess wasn't a sport, but it's classified as one by some people...As well as poker...?) So. What does make a sport a sport? It has to be physically demanding? Then walking a bunch of miles is a sport. You have to be paid for it? People are paid to do anything. It's entertaining? A lot of things are entertaining. Does anyone have a good definition for a sport? I personally can't think of one...I just judge activities according to my opinion, rather than with a set of rules. So no, professional gamers aren't athletes. Nor are professional chess players, nor professional poker players. Oh, and I can't wait until Wii Sports becomes a professional game.

Your favorite book/book series
Um...What? :wall: I read the first two or three of those, because my sister loved them...I got bored...Never finished them... A section of Stargirl was on a test I had to take, it sounded okay. I probably won't read the whole thing any time soon, but eh... I started reading the Series of Unfortunate Events after the ninth one came out, I think. (I actually can't remember some of the titles, so I'm just guessing) The first three were probably the best, then they just got repetitive and boring. I finished them for the sake of finishing the series, wasn't worth it...I think there's a separate book that answers a few of the big questions, but I'm not sure...Can't really remember. (Basically, if you want to know what happened, more bad things happened to them, then worse and worse...And then it randomly ended...) Finished Epic, by the way, it was the first time I got into a book that much since I read Ender's Game this past year. I stayed up reading it, read a bit right after I woke up, etc...A good book for anyone who likes (MMO)RPGs, I'd say. (It's a cross of Lord of the Rings and Ender's Game, two very good books/series) And of course, the title. Can't really get a better title than Epic.

dream job
I want to be a fire truck. I would honestly go for mathematician or something in the video game industry. If in the video game industry, probably some sort of map designer (Since I used to really love cartography, kind of still do). Just some sort of computer programmer (Or something) would work too though.

Childhood Beliefs?
Oh, that reminds me, I used to think penguins lived in Canada. It had something to do with Prince Edward Island, apparently there's an island with the same name somewhere near Antarctica.

What are you doing?
Being bored. Nearly done with Photoshopping a picture of me and my friends to make us look like the Fellowship of the Ring, and burning some DVDs. Or at least trying to... :-k Oh, and I'm Pippin. \

Childhood Beliefs?
You really don't get the meaning of "Stop", do you? And now that I think about it, I might have believed in Santa for a while. I remember once, I came back from Toronto on the night of Christmas...I ran into the house to check for presents before helping to unload our car...No present from Santa. Then my parents went in, I went in a few minutes later, and there...Present from Santa. If I ever did believe in him, then that's where it ended.

Childhood Beliefs?
Looks to me like you're the only one fighting. I was just stating my childish beliefs. Childish is different from childhood. While they both imply that the belief is false, childish is stronger, in my opinion. Nonetheless, this is NOT the thread to bash religion, there are others for that. While I respect your belief that God isn't real, if you're posting that to piss religious people off (Which it really seems like), then GTFO. (This really is turning into a religious debate, thanks to you... ) I read some of the stuff on the website posted by Dizzle in the first post...Some of it is hilarious..."I thought world hunger couldn't be a problem, boogers could be food and spit could be water!" :wall:  :wall:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Discussion Thread!
No idea what you guys are talking about... If you haven't yet, just go to the big blue door (I think) in the middle, enter it, and fight Tabuu.

Smash Club.
I haven't registered at Smashboards yet, but I've been hanging around there lately, reading threads about Dedede and Ganondorf in my attempts to master them. I'll get around to it someday. And I'll laugh if Lenin beats Manoman. Not that Lenin sucks, but it would be the most unpredictable thing ever. And I consider Mario to be the "hybrid" in Brawl, the one that's average at everything, but not extremely good at anything. That's his strength, I guess. That made absolutely no sense at all...

E3 2008 | Discussion
WANT. Spore too, I guess. I haven't really been following this stuff lately, so I don't really have anything I'm extremely looking forward to (Other than the already mentioned). Still can't wait to see what's announced though.

Childhood Beliefs?
Uh...I think that's some Chinese belief... :o My parents have told me that, not to be believed though. But when my sister was younger, she would clean her bowl off completely...A boy in her class was just like..."Ooooh when you get older you're husband will be very handsome!" #-o (On that note, I don't think I've ever had a perfectly clean bowl...)

racist question
I guess I could be considered racist, I try to not show it though. In my head however, I think racist thoughts. Though still, I think I'm more like Derek_Zoolander, I don't like attitudes rather than the race. It's not that I don't like black people, it's that I don't like "gangstas." In fact, now that I think of it, I know a few white "gangstas", and I don't like them either. And I make racial jokes. A lot. And people throw the word racist around all the time, in fact whenever I say the word "black", it seems like someone calls me a racist. So I wouldn't care.

My Fitness and Weight lossProgression since summer of 07

Childhood Beliefs?
wow did you pay any attention to the episode where Steve left at all? he went to "college" Wait, I thought the actor really went off to college/university/something? #-o Or that might be another childhood belief of mine...

Childhood Beliefs?
Kind of agree. Ignorance is bliss, I had no idea about all the problems in the world, no idea that violence could happen so much, no idea about anything to be honest. According to my mom, I used to be an extremely happy kid (Okay, guess all moms say that...But still...), can't say that anymore. And +1 to that watermelon thing, though not just watermelons. I thought that if I swallowed any seeds, fruit would grow inside me. I also thought women randomly got pregnant. :? Never believed in the tooth fairy, Santa or the Easter Bunny... I'm not sure, but I think I used to believe that most people in America were Asian. Heh.

books and movies (and other forms of literature)
It depends. Sometimes, the movies are better. Other times, the books are better. Once in a while, the movies and books are just as good as each other. The thing about movies based on books is that they normally leave a lot of things out. This is understandable though, almost all movies are less than four hours long, and even still, most people wouldn't want to sit in a movie theater for hours and hours. Thus, the directors have to cut it down, skip a lot of good parts that readers liked, maybe even skip some boring, yet crucial, parts. When this happens, the book tends to be better - But I guess there are exceptions. Also, movies sometimes deviate from the book...The Two Towers, anyone? Books, on the other hand, have no limit...They can be as long as the author wishes, and many people wouldn't mind reading a thousand page book. (As long as it is good, that is) However, because of this, books nearly always take much longer to finish. It took me ~2 months to finish the Lord of the Rings (Books), it takes me about 10 hours to watch the movies. I have only read the books a few times, but I've watched the movies...Like 20 times... Movies are more helpful with visualization, sometimes books don't provide good descriptions. When you see it on the big screen though, you'll get the image in your head, and that's what you're going to picture it as. (Continuing the example of Lord of the Rings, I couldn't figure out what Helm's Deep really looked like until I watched the movies) And there's the matter of the soundtrack, that can really be important, and it's something that books can't have. To sum it up, both are good. Movies can be more helpful with getting the story across, but I find it easier to get lost into books. I know I was focusing more on the matter of "book-made-into-movie", but in general, I like books a bit better. Nearly all the movies that I've liked are based of books.

Smash Club.
Heh... Yeah, I had a lot of lag at first, but it got better...And eh...Waddledees...Are so annoying... And we both picked Ganondorf for the second game. :ohnoes:

Guess This Kid Really Wanted To Play His Nintendo Wii....
Not everyone has it as well off as you do, not everyone is like you. Just because it was easy for you to get over depression doesn't mean it would've been easy for this kid. Not to mention that when you're mad, it's often hard to see reason... And for the record, I was the first to mention the computer/Wii thing.

Camp Help
I just lost. I just lost. Then I read your sig, and lost again. #-o There are plenty of games for people to learn about each other, but to be honest, most of them are no fun at all. At first, you can try out some ideas...But later on, you could always ask the campers what they want to do. Within certain boundaries that is. A good game (Heh...Lost again) could be "I never." Everyone holds up 10 fingers, then you take turns going around in a circle saying things you've never done. If you've done something that someone else has never done, then you put down a finger. Last person with a finger wins. Or you could play the game (Ahhhhhhh) and keep track of how many times each person loses. (Capture the flag is AWESOME by the way. There's a small wooded area near my school where my friends and I have played it against other groups of friends. Hiding behind a rock is FTW.)

Your favorite book/book series
Heh, now I wish I read as fast as I used to. I read the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit in I think two months, which is upwards of about 2000 pages. I'm predicting each big series (WoT and SoT) will take me about a year. Doesn't sound too bad, I have been at a lack of books to read. Though I guess my reading speed will increase as I go along, who knows, I might finish both in one year. And I read three Harry Potters in one day once. When I was like 10. And I actually did other things that day...Don't know why or how I did it, but if I like a series/book good enough I'm sure I'd do it. I guess my goal for the summer is to finish the current 7 Ranger's Apprentice books. I'm pretty sure I can do that...(Depends on if I like the first one though. If I don't like it, I'll probably just get started on SoT :P )

Your favorite book/book series
So I went to the bookstore today and picked up Wizard's First Rule, the first Ranger's Apprentice, and Epic. I was under the impression that Epic was a stand-alone book (No sequel...Apparently it has one, Saga...) so I started with that. Nonetheless, I'm only partially into the book and it's quite good. And especially since this is a video game fansite, I'd think a good amount of people here might like it. The author is Conor Kostick, took me forever to find that out. And to be honest, there are way too many choices. The list I made of possible books to get was pretty long. That's the thing about fantasy, it's fantasy, so there are endless possibilities. :) It was hard to pick, I think I'm going to end up reading all of them eventually though. But some of the books are incredibly long, doubt I can finish the Sword of Truth this summer. I think that, and the Wheel of Time, will be all I read this upcoming (Ugh) school year. And wow...I had no idea that the Golden Compass was part of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. I've heard so much about it...Another "must try", I guess.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Discussion Thread!
I considered doing that, but that would've been boring for me, and I wouldn't have gotten practice. Those 20 hours were good practice for me, I got a lot better.

Guess This Kid Really Wanted To Play His Nintendo Wii....
Irrational thinking. He might have thought that he wouldn't have really died, or that his parents would have stopped him or something, and wasn't really trying to kill himself. Unfortunately he did. HeWhoAtePie, I'm just going to assume that you've had a good life, a lucky life. Never really had any major problems, never had big family issues, never got seriously bullied at school. And you probably don't remember your teenage years, when hormones rage, you do extremely irrational things, like committing suicide. I'm not saying every teenager commits suicide, but people like this kid do. And what if he did have a mental disorder? (Personally, I'd think it would've been mentioned, but it's the media...) I know you would change your mind then, since you said so...But innocent until proven guilty? Assume that he had a mental disorder, until it's been proven that he didn't?
