i've met a quite a few.. This one would only beg me for advice on how to make money.. introduced him to flax since he really didn't have any skills to make money and couple days later he told me he made his first million and wanted to thank me for helping him out. Never once asked for any items or cash just advice about the game and how he could improve himself..

erkid"]
erkid"]I've met 2 recently. One while tanning and the other in rimmington when I was making tele tabs. Within the last 2 weeks.

The guy that I met tanning asked politely with perfect grammer if I had any junk he could have. This is like the first time i've ever seen a polite newb so I gave him like 250k worth of stuff.

The other I met in Rimmington asked me for help to do a quest. I tried to help him but it didn't work (it's been a while since I did witches potion :-k). I said "i'm not sure how to do this, sorry" and he said "ok, thanks anyway. I'll adventually get it".

well u spelled eventually wrong but that is very touching

I tend to spell stuff as I would say it. It's a bad habit of mine. Also how did I know that someone was going to quote me saying I spelt something wrong to make me look like a hypicrit noob?

i guess u didn't look at the second part of the reply <.<

Have you ever met that sort of new player? Y'know, the nice ones, who regardless of their low level are courteous and polite and don't beg? Sometimes I'm lucky enough to meet one. Its great, we talk, I give them items that aren't worth a whole lot to me, but help them out. Its cool  But they usually stop playing after a while... There seem too be less and less of them lately. Have you ever had the pleasure of meeting a low level like that?

Edit* So if you're a new player, and you need help, its better to ask than to beg. Most people will help you get jump started and give you advice besides.

Yes, but you'd have to hang around in f2p worlds, I've found a few people and made them sort of my pupils, one I found at lvl 50 in f2p became member shortly after that and he now is lvl 123 and has 87 runecrafting :o He keeps telling me that "the pupil ALWAYS beats the 'maestro'" eventually, but I keep pointing out to him that even though I have 1 hunting my total still ownz his ^^ even if it's only by a bit. In this case it is true though that more or less EVERYTHING he knows, he learned from me :P He's Cataland I have moved to Catalonia 4 years ago so I could help him in his own language as most time he couldn't understand the english of others very well.

I found another "pupil" not too long ago and he was really a great kid, smart kid too, I was looking forward to helping him with his every question but he quit RS shortly after :(

Yup, I met him at castlewars. He was quite nice to me, and polite for a lower level. After a couple games, he asked me if I would add him, and I did. Since then, he's been a good friend to me. Unfortunately, he's had about three or four accounts that got banned for no good reason. Still, he's working his way back up. He sometimes asks me if I have anything spare to give him, but in a nice way, and courteously, not begging at all. If I ever say I don't, he just accepts that. I've known him since about 6-8 months into playing runescape, and he's a good friend of mine.

I was one of those Nice Newbs many moons ago. Every time I needed help on a quest or on where to find something, I would politely ask a higher levelled player that was passing by. Then, I stumbled upon Tip.it, read all the quest and skill guides and started on my own RS career.

Those were some good times...

Reminds me of myself when I first started playing. Maybe it was because of my age when I started playing Runescape (16), or possibly because I'm just more mature than the average newbie, but I remember when I was around level 14, and because a higher level'd player saw that my Mining & Smithing level were far above my combat, he decieded to give me 50k for nothing!

Despite at the time only having around 5k in the bank, I declined and said 'I'd rather work for my money, but thanks anyway ^.^'

I sometimes wonder how many players today would have done the same.. Probably less than a tenth I bet... :|

I met one, while woodcutting on f2p.

We got on quite well and I gave him the odd present. One time I said to him, Instead of me just giving you stuff, would you rather know how to make some money for yourself?. He seemed willing, so I showed him the W16 Air company. He managed to earn 200k for himself before 20 combat, which is a very nice achievement.

I can quite easily see why these "polite" newbs quit a short while after starting. It because most people in RS are rude and very unhelpful to newbs. I know this from experiance.

I suggest you try doing what I did a few months ago. Out of interest I created a new F2P character to see what peoples attitudes were the new players. So, fresh from tutorial island I landed in Lumbridge. There I tried to act as I did when I first started, 4 years (or so) ago, wandering as if lost and politely asking people questions about the game. Mostly just simple things like where can I find a mine, or a fishing spot. Also, just as I first started I started doing the Cooks Assistant quest and asked people for help with things like, where do I find an egg (this particularly stuck in my mind as at the time I just could not find one  ). I did this for about 3 hours, but all I got from 90% of the people around was torrents of abuse. It made no difference what their level was - nobody seemed to have the time to help a "newb". In the end, like many a newb I gave up and, in my case ended the experiment, but if I had been a true newb I would have given up the game and not returned.

Thsi is all in contrast to my treatment when I first started the game (in the early days of RS2). One player took time to give me a guided tour of Lumby castle and its immediate area, another player quite politely showed me where to get an egg, and one player even escorted me to Draynor to "protect" me from the Highwayman. All through my first few weeks on RS I met many people of all levels and 90% of them were polite and patient when I asked simple questions or asked for help with simple tasks.

So when people say that the old days were better, they actually were - at least in the treatment of newbs

When i first started i was that person, i remember going to the wiz tower and teaming up with another guy, we get other players to attack the lvl 40 mage and split his stuff, that was fun.
That makes you and your friend tools, not nice players.

So being nice to someone is the same as being the same as being used? I beg to differ. Oh no, the level 3 is using me to give him full iron out of charity! What ever will I do without that crucial armour? :roll: Come on, helping a newbie begin his journey in RS is the same as being manipulated? =;

I remember when I started playing, I was level 6, ended up at Dorics somehow, asked a guy a few questions about the game, he said "I don't know if you can wear it yet but folow me to the bank and I'll give you a few items" Gave me 20k and full mith. Was a great feeling, I'm still friends with him online too this day.

From that experiance, everytime I meet a great "Newbie" I always give them a nice amoutn of money, it sees to make their day.

Same thing happened to me when I was lvl 19, I was talking to some guy in teh wilderness and after I died :P he gave me a bunch of steel stuff. :)

If your talking to me im reffering to the guy i qouted, who says he met a nice newb who helped him kill players in the wizard tower and take their stuff.

I once gave 10k to a "nice noob", but then he just said, "That all you got? I need 15k more!!" <.< But the other times when I do that, they say thanks.

I bet it's some totally awesome 20-stringed, dragon shaped instrument that doubles as a flamethrower/laser phaser. Or some really lame Chinese bamboo thing.

Well, I've only met one "good newb." I forget how I met him, but we ended up being great friends, and we started talking irl. For Christmas last year, he mailed me a graphics card :-k . Sadly, he quit playing RuneScape for the great graphics of WoW :-X :(
