TheWilch
I'm not a member anymore; can anyone tell me what exactly the change was? From what I've heard, you clicked as fast as possible. I'm guessing that the spell now takes some time to cast? (I remember a similar "bug" back in RS Classic. You used to be able to cast attack spells as fast as you click, but people used bots to cast, so Jagex changed it so that players cna only cast one spell each second.) when it came out you could click it as many times as u wanted as long as u had the runes. so you got exp as fast as you could click. thats the way magic was when runescape was made, but to many bots got 99 magic and they put the second's rule into magic. Bauke
Charge was the same a couple of years ago :P Spells like that are never supposed to be abused for experience, and are therefore fixed as soon as Jagex catches onto them, can't really have expected it to have stayed that way :P Perfect, couldn't have said it better myself, but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyways: You can't just pay 100 mill to get a 99 stat. Jagex has made it clear in the past already that skills don't and SHOULDN'T function that way with the charge spell. And this is not "nerfed" this is "fixed". It's not supposed to be ridiculously easy like this. It's very simple. Jagex fixed the spell so that it would fullfill it's purpose. To us, the amount of xp that is possible to get with the spell is now much lower. That's a nerfe for us. It's a fix that has a nerfing effect. So it's both. And yes, I love pointless debates  Twitter ||| Google+ ||| Facebook ||| LinkedIn ||| My very interesting weblog about science
kdb148
Using it was bug abuse, by the way. The people doing it had to realize that Jagex didn't intend that the spell give such an insane amount of experience. It was a bug, and using it is bug abuse, plain and simple. Actually IF i remember correctly (I'm getting old..it's been a few years now), they put the seconds rule into RSC magic mainly because people started PKing with bots getting virtually instant killed by having a bot shoot 50 fire bolts in mere seconds. The victims HP would drop almost instantly to 0 before they could even think about eating. Though I never saw it personally, despite being in the wildy almost ever night. Just heard about it through friends at the time and remember the seconds rule being implemented soon after. Though I'm sure it helped many people to 99 as well. Jagex just made a mistake implementing the spell the way they did. Technically you could call it a bug, but there's no bug abuse. People that did that just took advantage of the possibilities of the spell. leebrave
they fixed it cause kids on the damage inc foroums cant keep their mouth closed about it nerfed means to render something less usefull than its origional state I doubt it was kids, I would say it was responsible and fair player minded people that spotted the glitch or exploit and let Jagex know. It hasn't been nerfed it was not supposed to work that way to begin with. I'm asuming you used it to gain experience fast? Well even though its a glitch that jagex didnt notice on release its still a glitch/exploit which people used and to me thats no better than using a macro etc. So i think all you players that used it and abused it should stop crying and think yourself lucky that Jagex didnt take that exp back from you. there was also another glitch which jagex has been told about, i never used it but found out after finishing the quest that people had been. TheWilch
kdb148, who gave u all this professional jagex clarification? sykoknight that could be the reason too, but i kno atleast 3 people that got 99 magic in rsc by that method. only 1 of them got banned at that. but ive never heard about the auto mage happening like that, thats kinda scary cuz it really could have happend like you say
Huzzah
People that did that just took advantage of the possibilities of the spell. Still they knew it was a bug that was about to be fixed. Why else would everyone use the spell as quick as they could before Jagex found out? Of course its bug abuse. I mean Duriel was just using his new found ability to pk out of the wilderness, right? superson
LOL bug abuse? Maybe a few banning for using it in the first place I recon. It wasn't a bug... Well you could say it was, but if that's how the spell is (was) made, and you don't do anything wrong, then you aren't abusing anything. Just because they didn't think of that, doesn't mean that it's illegal. Creative Gaming I think it was called in a Tip.it article? In Soviet Russia, glass eats OTers. Alansson Alansson, woo woo woo! Solidus_77
But when I think of nerfing I think "omg this thing is great but because people complained it sucks now", which really isn't the scenario of this spell. It's just easier for people to accept that this was obviously not supposed to be cheap free mage exp. The reasons for nerfing items like the whip and the MSB are more subtle. basically I think of nerfing as something that people claim as "unfairly been changed to no longer be as good as it was before". 76th to reach 99 Construction on 6th of February 2007379th to reach 99 Runecrafting on 4th of November 2007 Finally the secrets of goal achieving are revealed! spikerkid
It was fixed and not nerfed. Jagex didn't intend anyone to get 2million xp in an hour ever which makes it a problem. Problems like that make the game highly unfiar and need to be fixed. Thous FIXING the problem. Didn't hear about it till know :(. Why doesn't anyone ever tell me this stuff? Quit RuneScape :)

It was not a bug. A bug is something in the code that is not working properly. Everything worked fine. Jagex' intentions were just different than the code they made. They failed to forsee this. They made a mistake in their judgements, not in their code. Therefor you can not call it a bug. Kill_Thomas9
Wow I started something big :P its nerfed and fixed, there we go, debate over. Zoid - do you really think Jagex meant to give 500k+ exp an hour? not intentionally but they did didnt they? Nerf: was meant to be used in a certain way, but gave too much exp, even when being used like it was supposed to. Fix: was meant to be used in a certain way, but was used in the wrong way, and so was changed

Bug abuse = taking advantage of an unintended aspect of the game in a manner that unbalances the game (IE allowing xp far faster than was ever intended) As wonderful as the idea of a spell that allows 99 magic in a few hours is, I somehow doubt Jagex will ever intentionally release one. I honestly don't think it's something you can complain about to be honest...
