Are you addicted to runescape?/how you got over it

Featured Replies

Well, I just got banned for "macroing", although I really wasn't. :( Anyway, this is how I just quit.

I bet it's some totally awesome 20-stringed, dragon shaped instrument that doubles as a flamethrower/laser phaser. Or some really lame Chinese bamboo thing.

well his is how i spend my time...i play it when i have the chance. On Vaction I only talk about what happens on other games and this. I could try to quit but i find no point... :shame:

Yes, I am, and I have no problem with it. I have no life for a couple of reasons. I have no car, I can't walk to any of my friends houses because they live like 20 miles away, and RuneScape is fun. As soon as I get my driver's license I'll probably cut down on the time I play.

In my opinion, as long as you are still having fun, you should play as long as you want. As long as your time spent playing isnt interfering with your social life or well being. For example, if you are avoiding your friends and family and have stopped eating just so you can have an extra couple hours to play, you need to seek help. But, im completely ok with someone playing as much as possible if they have a day off and just want to relax.

You should of thought like FastForce...

Balanced life is the key

Thats a good idea of how to make yourself quit. But you could have given it all to me :notalk:

Didn't you get the point of the story...?

i quit for 1 month

i dont play that much anymore. having a gf really helps you quit/back down.

You do realise girlfriends are like friends (in a brief, brief, undirect sort of

way)...unless you got no friends, which I highly doubt, it makes you seem you ignore your friends but not your girlfriend...? Better to be with both instead of one.

Runescape is part of why I don't have a girlfriend in real life :|

The reason you don't have a girlfriend isn't because of RuneScape,

but of yourself. Ethier A) You don't love anyone, so you shouldn't even think of having a girlfriend because they're your girlfriend because you love them not because you want to improve you soical stauts. B) You're too nervous or can't interact the one you love. Which is still nothing to do with RuneScape, and if you are I wish you luck.

I don't all it addiction, I call it enjoyment

The only reason I play this game for hours straight is because it's time consuming at higher levels. You can't get a lot accomplished in an hour once your levels get quite high. I'm sure some people can but they won't enjoy the game as much.

You got a good point.

Just some people think 3+ hours is automatic addiction which is totally not true. Read below :)

I totally agree with you mate.

I'm not addicted at all, and i can quit anytime if i choose to, but i don't see why I would. I play runescape to pass time, and to enjoy myself, if I find something more interesting to do, I do that. It isn't like i gotta play 24/7 and I can't stop.

i tried to see how far i could get in 1 day on f2p

this is what i got on this (1 day) pure

Become involved in a activity after school, a club, a team. Its worth it. Keep runescape for the summer when you really are bored.

im not addicted i can stop whenever i want

"GO AWAY MOM!"

sorry didnt mean to type that

It's weird.

I do think I have a small addiction to RS. I know I play too much and think about it even when I'm not playing.

But....I don't no life. My social life does come first. I never pass up an opportunity to do something fun to play RS. But I do think about it while I'm not playing. I have a balanced life though :o.

Meh, I don't get it either.

Interesting read :) I s'pose that's one way to get yourself to stop playing if you can't get yourself to quit naturally.

I definitely wouldn't say I'm addicted to RuneScape. Maybe I was at one point, but certainly not anymore (because now I'm addicted to TIF!  ). Right now I only play because it gives me something to do. I enjoy setting goals for myself and watching them be accomplished, I enjoy blogging my progress on these forums. But I certainly don't get RuneScape withdrawals or think about the game when I shouldn't, etc.

But no matter how much I play, no matter how little time I dedicate to school work (studying is overrated..), I still maintain a 3.5 GPA, which I am very lucky for. I'm gifted with the ability to not study for any test and still get an A or B on it. Most people link RuneScape addition and your grades inversely - addiction goes up and grades go down. But quite frankly, my grades will stay the same no matter what I do.

Well, since it's summer now, and I want 99 woodcutting and have nothing better to do (for now), it goes to ~9 hours a day. When school starts, it will go to about 2 hours a day. I think I could quit if RS would start to bore me and I wouldn't enjoy so much anymore, but that hasn't happened, and I think it won't, since I have so much to do. I have a line between my life, school and RS; it doesn't really affect my grades or anything.

this part is pretty much like me... i can play a lot, just don't bother to do the homework, and my grades still get good... i might play a little too much rs though :P

Scherzo.png

Well I was addicted, know I even play a textbased game instead, RS got to... repetive, (and it was a MONTHLY cost, not a year cost or lifetime)

Give a man a lighter, and he will be warm for a while.

Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

I started playing runescape classic in '02 when i was only 8 years old lol, i just mined coal and sold for coal certs but it was pretty borin'

my account got hacked so i didnt play for 2 years, in '03 / '04 i made biscit head about a month later i got my rubber chicken <3: and then i quit again with pretty rubbish stats, i was lvl 50 cmb ish

i came back in '06 and made some cool friends 8-) and i got members, thats when i really got hooked, i trained day after day hoping to get all my skills on the highscores list, the skill i loved the most had always been magic, but when i reached 60 it became harder to train, i then took up barrows and within 2 weeks i reached 70 magic and my net value went from 1m approx. to 7.9m i then used money to buy more pots etc, eventually i had my largest lump of cash... 7m, and about 6m in items. You'd think with all the money i would continue playing, but i realised how boring barrows became and almost everything else in runescape

I took up pking, mainly f2p and me and ell_rules1 were unstoppable, we were 1-item noobs owning huge teams, sometimes chelseaboy11 and rens would come along, i enjoyed pking but my loses (lobster costs) outwieghed my gains (scims) so i made a pure

after a while all pures get boring so this is around march, bored out of my head wondering what to do

I quit for about month and came back, alot of friends needed money so i lent it and sometime gave it away and my net worth is now 80k cash and 4-5m in items

I am back now and still play, just not as much , but i now realise the main reason for playing runescape isnt money, its about playing with your friends so i spend all my time pking, minigames and just hanging around with mates ::'

Woah, thats pretty much the truth. Really, getting a gf just because you want a gf is pretty stupid and nerdy.

To be honest, I'm really happy I do not have a gf, but know on the other hand I have a really good relation with some girl I really like (but not love, and the same goes for her), and that that relationship is better then some people have with their gf.

And like you said, a gf for your social status sucks.

Sorry that was a bit offtopic, but just wanted to say that. ;)

Anyway, I liked the article on runehead from adam007 about addiction, and also the reply on that article from Duke Freedom, who basically said that most of the people here who say they have an addiction, really have a habit with some downsides, but no real dangerous parts, like alcoholaddicion has for example.

I have a passion for a game that I find really fun. I don't consider myself addicted.

Good job on quiting by the original thread poster. If I ever really need to leave that badly, thats exactly what I plan on doing.

I start playing again during summer, and start playing again during halloween till christmas break, then quit all the way to summer, this way i can have all my studying done for exams. Of course i am addicted and the time i have to wait to get back on again really helps me to level when i get back on again
