CampbellMC
It seems with the newest poll from JaGeX many people are clueless about their computer. I find this kind of sad that "I don't know" has won nearly every category. Do you think this poll was a failure for JaGeX? Were you able to correctly answer the questions? What updates do you think this will pertain to? I think this poll was actually a bit of a failure for JaGeX, and many people could have incorrectly answered. If JaGeX gave instructions on how to find this information it may have worked out better. I was able to correctly answer all the questions they put but this is because I have a custom computer. I am just wondering how many people have mistaken memory for HD space (2 Gigs ram isn't that common). I think that JaGeX may be looking to increase the playscreen size, and/or give even more graphically advanced updates. I am still wondering why there was not a question about the graphics card, but I doubt anyone except custom computer owners would be able to answer it. jemathonical
I didn't know the answer to the computer memory one. No big deal. I told Jagex the truth by saying 'I don't know' ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!

lewagold2
I think this is a perfectly reasonable poll, but some people either have geniuinely no idea or are just too lazy to look it up in the manual or look at the sticker on the front(only some have these, including mine). ^Clicky for Q Cape Blog^MY SIGGIE AND BANNER SHOP
Guest
A failure? No Yes I was able to answer all the questions easily. I think it will pertain to graphic updates bases on what the majority of players computers can handle.
Yassin765
This wasn't a failure to Jagex, prob just something for even more graphic updates I could answer all except how fast my comp is. Man, so many comp [developmentally delayed]ed people on runescape. I think there will be more graphic updates. I bet it's some totally awesome 20-stringed, dragon shaped instrument that doubles as a flamethrower/laser phaser. Or some really lame Chinese bamboo thing. spikerkid
It's for the people who know. I had little clue to some of them so I just picked something random. :D It was a f2p poll too! Quit RuneScape :)

NJE03
Do you think this poll was a failure for JaGeX? No, I don't think so. Were you able to correctly answer the questions? Certainly. What updates do you think this will pertain to? I'm hoping for a larger game screen. Looce
Do you think this poll was a failure for JaGeX? Not quite; apart from the "I don't know" answers, the results should be pretty accurate... Although someone remarked on IRC that the sheer amount of "I have over 2 GB of memory" answers were probably from the newbies opening up their "My Computer" and checking their hard disk's capacity. After all, it's in GB. :? Were you able to correctly answer the questions? Yes. What updates do you think this will pertain to? Normally their applet fits within a 800x600 resolution, and problems with that are rare as of yet... so I think the questions about screen resolution and aspect ratio will lead to a full-screen client. Aquashock
It was almost a failure, being a not so tech savy person, i did answer "I dont know" for most of them. The only thing id guess they are doing with it would be and update to the graphics engine, which would go with those high def looking pictures that were spotted in the KB not too long ago. ^^Click For Monster Hunting Blog (180M+ in drops)^^
sk8_tolivv
It was a horrible poll...most people arnt going to know that stuff and if they don't there not going to go looking though your computer to find out what they are.
Thus
I made a mistake too on the RAM part, but when I noticed it was too late :( This poll was a failure for jagex, b/c many people simply don't know their computers. I dont see why this poll was so important anyway. why dont we get another guaranteed update ffs
jackjonson
they just shouldnt have had a 'i dont know' option, if you dont know those answers you will not be able to help them with the poll, 'i dont know' was the only part that was a failure. [hide=This says it all, though]What resolution is your monitor? I don't know 41% (10290 votes) How fast is your computer? I don't know 40% (10008 votes) How much memory does your computer have? Looce
I guess only the memory one was a complete failure, even though the winner for most questions was I don't know. Most people see "memory" in Jagex's poll, look at their specs, and don't find it. So they just go with the thing that has GB in it. They should have written "RAM" IMO. But meh, the poll is released already.
hohto
If you ask me, that wasn't a failure but more like an useless poll. That information would be helpful if they were planning huge expansions to RS, but I don't think we'll see any of those any time soon. Looks more like one of those "nice to know" polls from Jagex. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm

silver24-7
Definitely isn't a failure Yes I was able to respond all without problems. And I do think this will lead to graphical improvements in rs ^^ Maybe only a bigger playscreen which requires little changes(we just get to see more things at once around us) but that'd still be nice. Also the reason why they didn't ask for the video memory (I think) is because RS doesn't even use that XD It's java remember ;) it uses our regular RAM to process colored pixel, not full graphical motion :P That's why it takes about 80MB of RAM already when just standing in a calm place, I should try world 2 fally sometime... x_bow80
Maybe they just wanted to know a little about the type of computer the average player uses. 99 Pics - Range, Defence, HP, Attack, Magic, Strength, Cooking

Full graphical motion is just images changing many times per second. A CPU and a GPU can both do this; the GPU is just more specialised for the job than the CPU, and can render more fluid motion. 80 MB of RAM is to store the current map, players and NPCs in your area, textures, fonts, chat text, inventory items (and images for them) and other things while you play RuneScape. Assume some more of that memory is there so that Jagex's Java code can render its image on your display, because Java can't use a graphics card for its processing. And, finally, assume some more of that memory is for the Java Virtual Machine (around 15 MB for Sun's latest VM), the browser plugin for Java (should be around 2 MB) and your browser itself (45 MB for Windows Safari, 20 for Windows Firefox etc.). And for your video memory comment, I think Jagex just knew that it would be hard to answer: there are integrated graphics chipsets that can use a variable amount of your system RAM for their functions (how are you supposed to answer that?), and there are graphics cards with their own RAM... but a computer newbie would confuse the video RAM with system RAM and produce even more buggy results. malo2
The poll was fine, the results are sad. Who knew that people in runescape know so little about their own computers? but anyway, I'm thinking of the possibility of high-medium-low details in the future if the results are good. The current high detail could be labeled as medium detail, and the new high detail will have graphics and animations runescape has not seen yet. Things that could be in the New high detail: -reflective water -being able to see the people on other floors (although i'm not sure the graphics decide that) -fog effect -Larger visible area -Shadows -General detail improvement and I answered all questions perfectly.
