Futurama
Okay. I'm 18 years old and just applying for my first real part time job, aside from helping my dad out from time to time - I havn't needed a job up until now because I was getting ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã200 a month anyway due to EMA, family allowance etc, however, they're all stopping soon so i'm getting a job. As of today 3 of my family members have died this year - my nan, and 2 of my great aunts. Sucks but, i'm not here for sympathy - from these family members dying, our immediate family (Mom, Dad, Brother and Me) and my Auntie and Uncle have had 2 houses handed down to us, my nans and my aunts. My brother recently moved out with his girlfriend into my great aunt's old house and is living there now - all he's having to pay is an ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã80k mortgage (my auntie and uncles half, set over time, not paying anything at the moment) and my mom and dad gave him their half for nothing and even helped him clear the house and move in. Now I know things left in a will arn't exactley the same as someone being a "favourite son" and getting more, and it's not the same as him getting ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100 for nothing and me getting a fiver, but my brother's got in excess of 80 grand out of it for nothing. I, however, am eventually being given; A new computer. A few driving lessons. My uni course for the next 2 years (̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1500 - and not paying for the third year.) Totals to around ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã2k. My nan's house, worth about ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã145,000, is being sold asap instead of rented and given to me when I want to move out. I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but did I get jipped a bit here? My mum's always tried to teach me the value of working for the money I want, and suddenly they've essentially gave my brother 80 grand, and me, what...2% of that or something? ____
Yea - you got shafted. I know that feeling all too well. But don't sweat it bro, you'll be making more than your bro soon enough. Or you should be making more soon enough if you got those vocals together :P
speedofsound
Eh, you did get the short straw in this case. Just make best with what you got. Who knows, you might end up more succesful then your brother. Plus, you'll learn more lessons and have better values through working for what you want rather then just having it handed to you. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you." Randox
In your post it look slike your getting the 145,000$ (no otheer money symbol) from the other house being sold. And if so, thats not getting shafted. Othewise it's just a timing thing, there might be a mortgage on both houses? Any ways that kinda sucks, but hopefully you'll be a better person for it. Rebdragon
Wait, your parents are chipping in $80,000 for your bro, and they won't pay past your second year of education? Why is that so again...? [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series. Futurama
Wait, your parents are chipping in $80,000 for your bro, and they won't pay past your second year of education? Why is that so again...? Fourth year, i'm in uni next year. They will pay me to diploma but not degree level...I have no idea why. In RE to randox: My parents are selling the 145k house and splitting it, half to them, half to my auntie and uncle (as it's my uncles and dad's mom that died this year.) AFAIK i'm not seeing a penny of it... I didn't want to seem spoilt or anything because it is will money, not like a bingo win split among everyone or something, just seems a bit messed up that he's getting so much and me so little! stan18
yea, you got shafted. but wait til you move out - maybe they'll pay for you. do you only have one older brother?
xvillexvalox
Well, if you ever need to ask for something from them, you can always use this against them. The only odd thing I see is, I don't even think the inherited money is going to pay for your uni, seeing as most parents save up to pay for their children's college level education. :-s Well, I don't know what else to say here. :|

tomdavies90
meh cant be as bad as my family, ok so they arent my immediate family but my moms mom is her stepmom so i guess, my step aunt and uncle, are extremely rich, im talking 1.5million pound house, recently the uncle died so they are selling it thats how i know, but its absolutely full of old kcick knacks and they used to run a shop and have hundreds maybe thousands of pounds worth of stuff in the loft, about 2 months after his death we were at my nan and grandas and my step aunt was there, we were talking about everything like all the stuff left, and i was joking (but at the same time trying so desperately to give her a hint) about selling it or giving some to me, but no...a week later a skip came and took everything away....all that stuff i couldve had and tried to sell...gone for free to some random stranger Sig by me.... Lateralus
It's just the typical big brother scenario, it happens all the time. I think what you are getting is significant enough so that you should be pretty ecstatic about it. Plenty of people don't get any help from their parents at all. La lune ne garde aucune rancune. Intriguing
yeah, you kind of got screwed over. but, perhaps try and think of the positive--what your parents are going to give you--as opposed to the negative--what they didn't give you. Cool.
IGoddessI
Now that I understand the situation better, I think I shall remove all this  The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. ____
...Usually I'd agree with you on most things, but in the case of Rob here - not quite. There's more influences into his current situation than he's posted. And quite frankly he's far from spoilt. He's gotten further on his own ambition than most people his age I know. And it's his first job at 18, because his music is at a bit of a slow point with the vocals and it isn't moving as fast as it should. He needs something to close the gap between now and when his first album is finished.
IGoddessI
Why, is it my problem the young man hasn't typed the full story? I'm sorry but I call a brick a brick and by how that is written, that is exactly how I've interpreted it. Want a better reply? Write a better descriptive scenario. I'm a hard critic, such is life. I'm sure if the young man told this 'whole story' properly, I would gladly show a little sympathy and a few words of comfort. Futurama
What is EMA? ^^ Really wondering what that is... I need quick cash!! EMA you get in the UK for studying after compulsary education, depending on your household income. My dad was technically unemployed when I applied for my 2nd year of EMA as he'd started a business after being made redundant from the rover car factory, and couldn't write down a yearly income because he hadn't been working for a year so his income was, on paper, ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã0/year. So I got ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30/week for full attendence :) IGoddessI: Yes, I can see your point, and I get that a lot, but there is reason behind it, not just laziness. A lot of people my age get home and relax - I don't. I get home and I work on music, I sort out publishing contracts, I read books on the music industry, production and recording, I write library music for crap money but so I have something to put in a portfolio, I work with local artists, I help set up at some gigs, I promote, etc. And why am I doing this? So I have a career, and - da da da daaa - a work history and something to show to companies. So yup, they did. And yes I did feel sympathy for my family thank you very much, I didn't stand there and say so what are we getting then when members of my family died. I'm not spoilt, we live in a small 3 bedroom house, I buy all my own clothes, i'm paying for my own driving lessons and car and decorating my own room soon, all out of my money. Maybe you should read the message on here before you assume how I reacted to death in my family rather than calling me a "brat." My great aunt died yesterday, I hardly knew her because she's had alzheimers for the past 4 years and me and my mum sat and cried together for half an hour yesterday. IGoddessI
If you wrote that to begin with, I would have something polite and encouraging for you to read. Within saying that, thank you I will look at your music and read your blogs and get back to you with that something polite and encouraging for you to read. Futurama
You're right, it's not your problem, so please don't call me a spoilt brat in the first place. The reason I didn't write it is because i'd prefer to keep the details to myself, yknow? I don't wear my heart on my sleeve and I especially don't do it on internet forums.
