The origin of the name Gielinor

Featured Replies

im really curious as to how Jagex came up with that name for the land of runescape

another british game developper called Lionhead Studios made a game called Fable. in the game, they reffer to the land(country) as Albion

i did some reseach and turns out Albion is an old name for the United kingdom

If anyone has any info, please post the links too

Boy, that was hard work

ever try putting it on an acronym making site?

I just put gielinor into an anagram solver and it came up with religion.

Do you think this is just a coincidence or do you think Jagex made it like that on purpose :?:

Private Chat always on!

Considering how it was named by Guthix (as we all know, a God)...I would guess Jagex intended it to be an anagram of religion.

wow that totally blows my mind, i didnt even put it in an anagrammer... since i said acronym lol. i mean anagram tho.

good job. this topic got way more interesting.

I came up with the same thing when I stuck it onto a solver I had found on google. It was the very first one that came up, as a matter of fact. Funnily enough, the name of the person who had made the anagram solver was called Andrew as well ::' .

"Mithril" is from Lord of the Rings.

I'm pretty sure Gielinor was intended to be an anagram of religion.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Off-topic: Giel is my real name, they stol it from me!

Carai an Caldazar! Carai an Ellisande! Al Ellisande!

If it's the thought that counts, why aren't humans innately telepathic?

They probably just played scrabble one day and someone messed up the board because they were losing and it spelt Gielinor.

Lol, I first read about orcs in beuwulf, and that was written a few hundreds years before tolkien was born.

so it's an anagram for religion...

is that to imply that runescape itself is like a religion?

I've heard that the game is quite addicting and people obsess over it..

obsess over it like a religion?

coincidence? I think not...

maybe.
