Summoning - what will it bring?

March 31st, 2004: Runescape Behind the Scenes

Updates:

# Treasure hunt mini-game with a variety of rewards, including some new rare items.

# Summoning spells - summon skeletons, demons, etc...!

# A quest journal for you to read and recap what point you are up to in each quest. No more coming back to a quest after a break, and wondering what you are supposed to do next.

# More pets and followers with different properties and abilities.

# Special organised game events on holidays.

# Many new monsters such as Orcs, Lizardmen and more.

And are also planning on adding even bigger features, that really take advantage of our new engines abilities, such as:

Player owned houses - Each player will be able to have their own unique house. Use the new carpentry skill to make new/rare things for your house. Using the farming skill to grow herbs and plants in the grounds of your house. Build your own private party areas and shop areas, and more!

Clan support, to allow you to optionally form your own clans with your friends.

Mutiplayer castle arena for massive team based wars!

Randomly generated scenarios, where a new adventure is generated for you and your friends each time you go on it. Form an adventuring party and go on your own personal quest.

The Treasure Hunt minigame (treasure trails) came out quickly and was a huge success. The same goes for the Quest Journal, Pets, and Holiday events.

However, Jagex claimed that they would soon be coming out with the player-owned-houses and the carpentry (construction) skill. Unfortunately, it took them another 2 years to come out with that one.

Note that Jagex also in the same update promised the Runescape community "Summoning spells - summon skeletons, demons, etc...!" Now if we go by the time it took for them to come out with construction, we might be waiting for a very long time. Here are my ideas on time it will take for Summoning to come out, and what the content of the new skill will be!

Despite Jagex's promises to the Runescape community on March 31st, 2004, that the skill we now know as construction, accompanied with Player-Owned Houses, would be on its way very shortly, it took them almost 2 years to come out with the skill. What caused this massive wait for the game's many players? I am sure that it was very difficult to program in and to co-ordinate everything. What came out during the wait for those waiting for the new skill? Well, they got other skills - Slayer and Farming. But still no Construction!

Now it is possible that this was just a fluke incident in which Jagex had run into unexpected difficulty, but I think not. On March 31st, 2004, Jagex also promised us the quick release of the skill Summoning, in which we could summon our very own demons and dragons! However, after 2 years, we have heard nothing more about the Summoning Skill from either Jagex workers, or from the Behind the Scenes articles. Now there are several conclusions that we can draw from this lack of response: 1. Jagex forgot about their previous guarantee of the Summoning skill (highly unlikely in my opinion due to the number of posts like this one appearing on their forumes). 2. The Summoning skill got pushed back in their releases (I believe that this might partially be the case, but for the reason that Jagex may have run into programming issues). 3. While they are working as hard as they can, it has turned out to be much more difficult than expected (my personal belief). I am sure that Jagex is working as hard as they can to bring us our summoning skill, but that still leaves us with the question: "how long must we wait?" Looking back to the past, we have seen Jagex deliver skills quite regularly. I think that we will not have to wait more than another 4-5 months at the most for our Summoning Skill to finally arrive!

Now comes the question "What will Summoning bring with it? Will it be a costly skill like construction? Will the monsters we summon fight with us?" I do not believe that the monsters that we will be allowed to summon will be able to fight along side us, at least not in the wild or outside in the normal game world. I think that there will be an arena much like that of the Tzhaar fight pit in which people can take their summoned monsters to fight along side them for new weapons and armor. I also believe that these monsters will not be able to stay with you forever. I would not be surprised to see your summoning skill depleted over time as your summoned monster is with you, much like prayer depletes. However, unlike prayer, your Summoning skill should replenish itself relatively quickly (faster as you gain levels). As to the question of price, I believe that it will be a very pricey skill. I am under the impression that we will have to purchase certain items before we will be able to cast our summoning spells and bring powerful monsters to our side. I also believe that there will be numerous "non-combat" aids along with summoning such as the ability to summon a runner who will take items to your bank, or a few pieces of summoned food to heal you when your health is depleted.

I am interested in hearing your takes on this matter, so please post any ideas, comments, or questions about my theories here! Thanks!

I'm npt sure why summoning gets so much attention, we have a topic about it more or less every week. So I am just going to repost what I put in last weeks topic.

This is my take on how summoning will work

You will only be able to have a certain amount of summons active at a time depending on your level. Summoning the summons will require consumables, there will be a certain list of these consumables that will be stackable and can be used across each summon. For instance, you each summon will use the same consumables in the same way that every spell uses the same runes how ever each summon will have a unique component and several common components.

Components could either be created, stolen, gotten from monster drops etc. Because components will be fairly varried in origin it will probably be possible to get various components from various skills. One may require the hunting of a certain creature whilst another is mined etc.

This is how I imagine the Skill levels will pan out

-Unsummon - Lvl 1

Destroys one of your summons instantly

- Class A buff creature - Lvl 1

This summon some how improves your stats (str, atk, def, mag, range)

-Class A Skill creature - lvl 3

This summon assists in skilling by either making a specific task easier or generating a raw material or acting as a larger pack

-Class A Buff - lvl 7

Increases the stats or abilities of summon

-Class A Melee creature - lvl 9

A combat summon that fights using melee

-Class A range creature - lvl 12

A combat summon that fights using ranged

-Class A Mage creature - lvl 15

A combat summon that fights using mage

-Increase number of summons - lvl 15

Allows you to have more summons active

-Dispell - lvl 18

An attack that does high damage to enemy summons

- Class B buff creature - lvl 20

This summon some how improves your stats (str, atk, def, mag, range)

Better than Class A variation

-Class B Skill creature - lvl 23

This summon assists in skilling by either making a specific task easier or generating a raw material or acting as a larger pack

Better than Class A variation

-Class B Buff - lvl 26

Increases the stats or abilities of summon

Better than Class A variation

-Class B Melee creature - lvl 29

A combat summon that fights using melee

Better than Class A variation

-Class B range creature - lvl 33

A combat summon that fights using ranged

Better than Class A variation

-Class B Mage creature - lvl 38

A combat summon that fights using mage

Better than Class A variation

-Increase number of summons again - lvl 40

Allows you to have even more summons active

-Greater Dispell - lvl 42

An attack that does higher damage to enemy summons

- Class C buff creature - lvl 45

This summon some how improves your stats (str, atk, def, mag, range)

Better than Class C variation

-Class C Skill creature - lvl 52

This summon assists in skilling by either making a specific task easier or generating a raw material or acting as a larger pack

Better than Class C variation

-Class C Buff - lvl 55

Increases the stats or abilities of summon

Better than Class C variation

-Class C Melee creature - lvl 60

A combat summon that fights using melee

Better than Class C variation

-Class C range creature - lvl 68

A combat summon that fights using ranged

Better than Class C variation

-Class C Mage creature - lvl 78

A combat summon that fights using mage

Better than Class C variation

-Increase number of summons again - lvl 80

Allows you to have even more summons active

-Special Summons - lvl 90

A special summon that has increased abilites possibly combining several types of summon such as more than one attack style or buffing abilities etc.

There would be several different special summons but it would only be possible to have one active at once.

-Increase number of summons - lvl 95

A final increase to the number of summons you can have active. By the time you get this in the high 90's you will be comanding an army basically

# Summoning spells - summon skeletons, demons, etc...!

On March 31st, 2004, Jagex also promised us the quick release of the skill Summoning, in which we could summon our very own demons and dragons!

1. It says skeletons and demons, not demons and dragons.

2. We already can summon skeletons using those special pots from A Swan Song quest.

So, if anything, it's just going to be a spell or two.

Don't get your hopes up.

they never will have summoning anything, skill or spell, because people would summon them while pking, killing very high lvl monsters would be a snap even for like lvl 60s... i would guess that jAGeX realized this also and never made it.

yes it is there, page 91 atm, and it does say it, but you never know, i mean theres an update on it so you never know what happened...

I think a lot of people would rather demean and attack the summoning update then spend every week sitting on the edge of their seats, drooling in anticipation.

Personally i think the summoning skill is coming--everything from that bts update you posted to the vyrewatch quest to tarn's lair seems to be pointing in that direction lately--but i would rather not get my hopes up and say it will be coming out sometime soon.

I personally have no intrest in summoning. Think about it, it would only be useful pking, and if you were summoning current demons, only useful for distracting someone. I can't imagine it having any practical use outside of pking, besides maybe to impress your friends.

Knowing jagex, you would not be able to summon in mini-games or major monster lairs, so summoning demons to help you take out the kalphite queen or to help out at castle wars is almost certainly out of the question.

I'm personally hoping summoning never is developed and released, because jagex should not be spending all their time on another novelty skill/ability, when they can be making something useful.

Some people are like slinkies, normally they are dull, but they always give you a smile

when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I don't like it and am glad it's not out yet.

It's stupid it's just like being super lazy.

Would you be able to kill your monsters? will they drop stuff?

Don't get your hopes up on nothing.

I hate these thread <.<
