Oxford Scientists "Discover" Parallel Universes.

Featured Replies

Perhaps Craiglowery, in a parallel universe knows how to keep his not so interesting finds to himself? I would like to go there.
I'd prefer the one where Craiglowery has been shot and killed by the police rather than being given a ticket for being out past curfew.

So is it possible to travel from one to another?

that would be ownage

Hell yea.... =D>

I was expecting to see that something about the theory had been proven. :( But how could it be? I'd say to prove parallel universes would be impossible, you could never go to one because you're stuck in your own parallel universe.

There's a certain amount of matter/energy in our universe. A parallel universe wouldn't get it from ours, it would have it's own.

Omniverse. Uni:1, Multi:>1, Omni:all

So theoretically there is infinite energy in the Omniverse then?

I never know what I have to think about the theory of parallel universes... On one side, I find that the underlying idea sounds plausible, but on the other hand I have trouble believing in it all as my conscious mind is only observing / living in one for sure. ;)

What's that film called 'One' where the guy travels through parallel universes and kills of himself =]

sounds good.

A friend to all is a friend to none.

A mathematic proof doesn't mean much to me unless there are some testable preidctions that come out of it.

String theory is an elegant mathematical theory, but it's yet to be experimentally verified.

If there is an infinite amount of universe's, I suppose so. I personally believe there is only one universe. I just knew the prefixes from reading comics with more than one universe :D .

At least he didn't title it "Man" does something or other. And while this is a big find in the way of ust finding something interesting, why would it really matter? It's not like it could do anything with this newfound knowledge...

So you saying in some universe it's possible that everthing is good and peaceful?

Lol, don't give me false hope.

Hehe.

I personally don't really belief in things that I haven't seen.

That's why I'm Atheist and just belief science if it's based on logic and a proven theory.

Whether you're an atheist or a theist has nothing to do with this, at all.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

I think that there are these "bubbles" of matter floating around everywhere.

These bubbles could have anything in them, and be any size, or shape.

From the size of a baseball to the size of a red supergiant.

Their particles would not be at the same frequency as ours, and could not be sensed or touched in any way. We could just pass through them as if they were not there.

However, if we were able to somehow convert the particles into the same kind as ours, we could tap into certain resources that they may hold.

When you reach the end of a bubble, you come back the exactt opposite side.

I should call this "bubble theory"!

How can they find out parellel universes by doing maths? :-k

thats pretty weird, so i suppose that means in an alternate universe, that i fell off the trampoline and broke my neck and died, where in this one, i broke my arm and lived. bah this makes my head hurt. best just to ignore it.

Mmmm...

In universe 1 I am eating chocolate ice cream

In universe 2 I am eating cookies and cream ice cream

and in universe 3 I am eating both while never gaining any weight.....

works for me :P

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Gravity doesn't affect Christians!

Either you just made a reference [for attempted humor?] that I don't get, or I have no frikkin' idea why you just said that :-s .

Excuse my ignorance of course, but if you could spell out the point you're making and what side you're on, I'd be thankful. I have some guesses, but I'm not making any solid connections :-k .

What do you mean by side? I mean being on sides is how the flaming starts.

No, being on sides is where the debating starts. You simply assume that debate and discussion automatically lead to flames.

...and on this forum, you're probably right >_>.

O sorry. It was a wrong statement.

If I think about it, it was meaningless and dumb... :-#

Wew, you sure made out that statement!

And when itb2006 said that "gravity doesn't affects Christians."

I think he ment that Christians that still belief every word in the Bible might not belief in science and so also not belief in gravity.

So the joke was that if they don't belief in science, it also doesn't affects these Christians.

Not so hard to belive. We alredy move forwards in time (4th dimensional movement), why not go left or right as well? (consider each split a move left or right into another posible timeline). just 5th dimensional travel.

Ah, I think I get it now junkie :-w . Guess I just looked at it from a very bad angle :-k .

Woah, someone took a joke too seriously. It's a joke, get over it.

...anyway, it's a slightly worrying (and brain frying)concept. Has anyone seen the flash demonstration about the 10 dimensions? It sounds similar to it.

Heres a link:

Imagining the 10th dimension

In dimension 5, it explains separate 'worlds' which are diverted timelines which are generated by our choices and possible outcomes. It also goes on about jumping between these timelines would involve the 6th dimension, and explains pretty well various concepts which is relevant and irrelevant to the topic.

Perhaps we are truly infinitely small. But how can that be? Being infinitively small = 0, but we exist. Okay, the smoke alarm is going off from the smoke coming from my overheating brain, so I'm going to lie down.

I'm not a fan of that flash (saw it a few months back in an old thread), as it's not really "different dimensions" once you get past #4. After that, it's just different timelines and multiuniverse stuff, backed up by little more than someone's random thoughts. It's really not even worth being called a hypothesis.

Perhaps we are truly infinitely small. But how can that be? Being infinitively small = 0, but we exist. Okay, the smoke alarm is going off from the smoke coming from my overheating brain, so I'm going to lie down.

Well, maybe knowing that infinitely small =/= 0 might help you, as well as the fact that we are not infinitely small.
