Looking Back on Skill Capes, A whole Year Ago

Recommended Posts

Hehe, this update didn't really affect me since I'm f2p.

I know from a lot of my friends that *most* people now say "nice cape" instead of "wow, 99 ___". I think to have a 99 in a skill is great to have, and a cape makes it better, but the cape isn't everything.

Also, I can't believe a year has passed since it came out. I wouldn't have even noticed until I saw this post. :ohnoes:

I think this deserves hot topic .

It gave me the last form of motivation I need from "mastering" the skill to a 99. That update just really changed how skilling is looked upon in RS.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

It rose prices of a lot of things, like yew lobs and raw lobsters.

The skill cape update probalby affected many of the RS players, and I think that it made many of my friends to try even harder to get that 99 that they have dreamt about. And some of them achieved it, and now they have one or more of those skill capes.

Myself though, I haven't really cared about those skill capes. I think it's because I haven't gone for any 99 yet. But when I start going for a 99, that skill cape will probalby make me work even harder to get it, so I can show the world that I have achieved a 99 :)

Yeah, before the Capes of Achievement came out, I was awed by my friend who just got 99 Woodcutting and Firemaking. This was the first time I heard of someone to get that high of stats before. After the update, I would be more than 75% of blogs and what not were changed or had added a 99 goal.

So I definitely believe this has changed the way the gamers looked at the game.

*bows* :)

But yeah I'd say that it has affected the way I play. I only got 99 Hitpoints for the cape. Although I'd put 99 Hunter onto cash. And 99 Woodcutting and Firemaking was a goal I was doing ages before skill capes were released. I started at 88 Woodcutting, I was 95 before the update was released, and already 99 Firemaking.

I can't believe it was only a year ago.... it feels like so much longer.

The new capes have definately changed the way i play RS. Before the capes there was little reason to advance skills to such a level. In fact, when they were released, I had only one lvl 99 skill. Since their release last october, I have gained an additional 7 capes lol, bringing my total to 8.

Skill capes didn't change the way that i played the game. I just wanted a nice total with some nice stats. 99s are quite nice so i got a few to help boost my overall total.. I really didn't care too much about the skil capes

The only part of the update that applied to me was the quest cape and yeah I'm pretty stoked about the update actually because I rarely buy stuff (always gather it myself right) so yeah it's awesome :D

Its obviously effected the prices and everyone has a goal for 99 it seems.

For me it just made things more difficult. I liked the look of the fm cape and decided I wanted it.. except I need a partner skill to train with it such as wc. So instead of my goal of 99 mining and smithing I had previous the update, I now got to cut stupid trees and burn things. :P

It hasnt effected the way I train or the cost for me. I am maybe more motivated and glad you atleast get SOMETHING at 99 but thats about all. Its a nice way to show off your accomplishment to others while feeling proud yourself.

Btw I dont have a goal for 99 actually but rather just train them and know they will be 99 sooner or later while I train other stuff too..

Yeah, i remember when they came out, and i was already at around 80 fletching, so it made me want to get 99. I bought the supplies on that same day, before the massive jump in prices, and made like 5m profit from making all the bows. If the capes didn't come out, i probably wouldn't have gotten 99 Fletching.

99 Fletching 99 Attack 99 Constitution 99 Cooking 99 Strength

Skill capes massiveley increased the amount of 99s especially in Cooking and Fletching. So, yeah, I'd say this update was maybe one that affetcted game play and players most. Though I'm a Freeplayer..

I only own one cape, and at the moment I do not have the ability to wield it, the quest cape. I would have gone for all quests done without the capes probably, because they where the reason I became a member.

I admit my current main long term goal is influenced by capes of achievement, because I am going for the fishing cape. I doubt I will ever get certain capes however. Slayer is one of them, and mining.

I used to hate ranged, but I have recently taken a liking to it, so if I do ever get enough bone bolts, I probably would go for 99 ranged.

I didn't quite get what it was.. so I looked it up. And it seems that the term 'Achievement' cape seems to sound right :P. I just started my first RS account about 10 minutes ago, and I SWEAR ON MY LIFE I WILL HAVE AT LEAST 1 99 SKILL BY THIS DATE NEXT YEAR.

I created this new specially designed scam detection software i've code named "common sense", it's saying its a scam.

I should have died a few times for real life reasons and one of them being the fact that I believe way back when a whole year ago I prolly even said the same thing, that I too would have at least 1 level 99 Skill within a year of Skill capes being out.

But I didnt, and im not dead <3:
