How much time do you spend on a post?

Of course, it depends. Some threads I make a quick, 1-liner, sometimes I make a decent sized paragraph. usually it's in the middle, though, not very short, not very long.

Contrary to popular belief, I'll always put a good deal of thought to a post. Even if it seems like an irrelevant joke, there's always a method behind my madness.

By the look of your post, I say that took a lot of time.

I don't spend to much time on my posts, and it reflects on what kind of person I am.

Sure, I could argue with someone or have a deep discussion, but I'm more of the quiet observer type, it may have something to do with low self-esteem or the fear of being ridiculed. So far things have worked out for the most part so I'm not going to go out of my way to change things. It works for me.

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

10-20 seconds, on average. I usually edit my posts several times, so the real number is higher.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Depends on the thread, often posts are better if they're short and to the point. But if it's a proper debate then i'll put a lot more time and effort into it, sometimes hours (back in the good old days, when I had hours of free time).

Usually not much. Only when I'm making a topic, well, most of them anyway. But most topics here aren't worth so much effort. They're all about politics, which isn't very interesting. Tip.it's Off Topic forum, always the same; people come, people go. Nothing ever happens.

Meh, I put quite a bit of time in my posts, actually. I tend to reread and review my posts and I edit a lot. Has to do a lot with the fact that English isn't my native language, so I keep correcting mistakes, even after I've posted. I hate being recognised as a non-native speaker due to grammatical errors.

I've also written many big replies, only to hit exit at the latest moment. Usually because I find I've been too harsh, irrelevant or whinging about the attitude of the OT :D.

Usually not too much, but on average a lot more if I'm posting a thread, of course. And on philisophical threads I post long posts.Tell me, when was the last time we had a philisophical thread on forum.tip.it?

I spent about 2 minutes on this.

Varies a lot depending on the type of post and why I'm writing it. Usually a fair bit of time though, and I distinctinly remember doing a five hour spree on one post at least once - obviously, most of the time is spent fact checking and reading up on what I'm going to say, but it's post related. Havn't managed any of the really long ones lately though.

Speaking of spending a fair bit of time on posts, anyone else always do ctrl + a ctrl + c before pressing submit? I started doing it because of the board gremlins back on scapeboard and I still do it. Just the other week it rescued a two hour posting project of mine on the official WoW forums and I realized I'd never have done it if scapeboard hadn't eaten some longass debate post I made once.

^ I catch myself doing that for longer posts. Obviously ones such as this (one I'm currently typing) I won't bother... but longer ones certainly.

I too remember losing all sort of stuff in scapeboard, lol.

I'm very glad you actually posted this one.

Taking this post as an example, i didn't take the time to actually think about your post. I read it, browsed over the first page of responses and hit the reply button.

I often ask myself what i want to accomplish with my post - what purpose it serves and most of the time i actually don't really know. Probably it's about giving shape to your own thoughts, so that you yourself get a better idea about what you are on about. Personally i find it very helpful to present these thoughts in a public manner, rather then writing in a diary or something (wich i don't). The good thing about it is that your thoughts might actually be helpful or interesting to somebody else and you might get response you find insightful yourself.

I'm not a big fan of arguments for some of the reasons you already mentioned.

The amount of thought to give into a post is probably dependant on the context of the thread or the forum. It depends on whether you are looking for a constructive response or just want to share some thoughts. Both is valid i guess. Some more or the less random thoughts floating through your mind might actually be pretty interesting to some other people.

Proper spelling and grammar is nice, but not really relevant imo.

One liners as response are funny sometimes, but it gets a bit boring when nothing you ever read on a thread or a forum has any substance whatsoever. Substance doesn't necessarily mean a great deal of reflection though. More often then not it is probably better just to let it flow.

I spend very little time posting, sometimes i dont even read, just check the title, and type something appropiate.

I usally just say some words like "good luck nubcake, get 99 fishness!"

When i write something more i just make sure my grammar is somewhat OK,

then post it and leave it. :P

Longest, most insightful post except for my phailed blog

PS: I tend to be a bit quick, and edit mistakes later

PPS: Also like smileys alot

Im lazy, and joke around alot

WTH, i use too much small fonts

It depends on the quality of the post.

If it was a brief one then I wouldn't take more than 2 minutes to post. If it was a discussion, especially a serious one It would take me about 5 - 10 minutes approximately :).

Now it took me about 2 minutes to post in here :D.
