Cars066
Hey, i'm in high school and i'm 5'9 & somewhere from 160-165 lbs, but i'm not that muscular so i've got a gut and some "moobs". So far, in the way of getting fit, I will do partial curl ups & push ups (60 of each per night) and lift 15 lb barbells in 20 reps each of curls and arm extends per arm. In the past, that seems to have worked for me, but what to do about cardiovascular fitness? Right now i'm pretty darn unfit when it comes to jogging and things like that. I think i can still run an 8:30-9 minute mile, but i just jogged around a little and it was hard and painful. Plus, it's getting wintery @ my place so i don't go out often, as freezing cold isn't usually to my liking. So, given that, what can I do in the winter for cardio fitness? My place doesn't have a treadmill, the indoor tennis facility is shut down 'till January, and I don't know what to do. Anyone got any suggestions? Ape
If you're interested in basketball, that's an indoor sport which keeps you warm and is seriously good for cardio work-outs. Very good for toning up, also. But, I still think just because it's cold, you shouldn't stop jogging. Just chuck on a scarf, hat, warm hoodie and some big socks and you should be set. If you're dedicated, you should fight the cold easily. New sig to come!

Ape
Badminton/Squash and Swimming are good for the winter months Swiming is the most efficient in every way, too. Firstly - Very cheap, only a couple of dollars/pounds. Secondly, it's veeerryy good for toning and weight loss. It's indoor. The only downside is that you're always hungry afterwards, so don't eat junk! Pasta or salad is your best bet. But I'm no nutritionist, don't ask me those things. :P New sig to come! Lemeja
You should definitely think about joining a YMCA or similar gym, I just started going there myself and I can already notice a difference. Good luck :)

Slurpn711
I would also try running outside. Once you get goin you will warm up fast. If running is painful just try goin slower at first, and work your way up to a faster speed. And try to go for at least 20-30 munites (more if you can). Good luck with things. Hangin loose. highlanders
Doing exercise in the cold burns up to twice more calories because your body has to burn fat to maintain its' temperature. 2480+ total
llamster
Man it up! Climb mountains! Swim in icy lakes! Wrestle with bears! All at the SAME TIME! :XD: Just continue jogging outside. Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

wakka102
ocne you start running you're body heats up due to the bloodflow and you won't notice the cold, paired with some warm clothes and it'll feel like summer time, just try it once and you'll see. runescapeloser22
You said "moobs" I suggest jogging... like everyone else. And like Ape said swimming is a very good exercise, and its pretty fun. About your curl ups (I'm assuming those are similar to crunches or sit ups), I don't know what "partial" is, but it sounds like a not as "efficient" workout. I'd say work on those, I can easily do 500 sit ups without stopping and I'm only 13, so you should be able to do more then 60 "partial" ones :P (I'm not that strong either, most of the kids in my class say I'm weak  )
Bubsa
Well, you've got to ask yourself, what kind of cardio-vascular fitness are you aiming for? Are you looking for long endurance, or a fast recovery time? Both a very different with very different training regimes. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. Star_Fox
well its better to exercise when its cold, mostly i get used to it and i rarely sweat.
Powman3
Jumping rope is an excellent cardiovascular workout. Ten minutes of that equals thirty minutes of jogging. I need to get out and jump some rope as a matter of fact. Man it up! Climb mountains! Swim in icy lakes! Wrestle with bears! All at the SAME TIME! Mhm, yeah. And drink jet fuel so the ladies know how manly you are. Along with that, wrestle a lion and kill it with your own bare teeth.
Cars066
runescapecloser-- Lol! do some research, partials are actually substansially harder than normal sit-ups because they are slower and you flex your abs for a longer period of time each up. and idk if you do your situps quickly, but if you do, thats probably why you can do so many. everyone else-- i got a nice fleece jacket, and finally some decent shoes and warm socks. so i can run around my place, not only that, but when i get good, we have a cross country trail practically in our back yard! the cross country team (which i'm not a part of) at my highschool participated there, it was supposedly biggest xc meet on the east coast! but noone in our area does xc in the winter so i gotta try out the trail soon. Powman3
The thing is, when you work out, you get heated up. So it wouldn't matter how cold it was. You don't need a heavy fleece jacket. Wear a windbreaker, those work well.

Since your other question has been answered, I'll make a slight suggestion and say that you should pump it up to 20 lbs 20 reps, at least. My bro's doing what you're doing right now, and he's 12 and just started weight training :| . And if you're going for muscle, not just weight loss, you need to be doing more than just partial curl ups and push ups with those curls.
