Meeting RS people IRL - Your opinions

Featured Replies

Just wondering what are your views on such a thing?

As some people know (some may not, but I doubt it as I've had litterally hundreds of people come up to me ingame already saying they've read my blog) that myself and Rdoherty (Rachel) met up.

Just wondering, what's ur opinions on meeting people from the game in real life?

Whether they're a different sex to you or the same.

If you would like to read about our meet, what happened, what we got up to etc, you can do so by reading;

I think it's strange as You don't know if they are Acting a different person than what they are

Rambo, cannot pk call your friends bro :). Wait nevermind none of SAPK/PKS can. Kappa.

Haven't really got an opinion about that since I haven't met one before, except the ones I already know in real life.

I would think that it would be rather cool, but I wouldn't trust a person, could be people out there who would want to do anything to steal your account. I am paranoid, I know :uhh:

But it was one of my longterm friends on RuneScape I'd be okay with meeting him/her in person, although it might be quite awkward :anxious:

Depends who you meet really ::'

Yes, that sig was annoying.

Yeah, it's very easy to disguise yourself in a literary manner. Whether you do it intentionally or not most people are different on online avatars and such things. I would never meet up with someone.

I would never consider meeting people irl. Not just because of risks that they could be a 40 year old man who is only interested in the bottom half of your body, but just because I dont care about who they are in real life, just that they are a nice person in the game. Now, meeting a new person IRL and then finding out they play rs is different, and I'm fine with that.

Frankly I'm indifferent about whether others meet irl, since it doesn't concern me. Let them meet, its their life. Just if they dissappear and are found 3 days later in pieces in a plastic bag off an interstate highway, let the lesson be learned. Not that all meetings end like that, but usually a meeting with another person ruins the image you get of them. If you're a girl and imagine the other person to be a hot romantic guy with a beautiful face, just be ready to be sadly dissappointed by their looks.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

Three months banishment to 9gag is something i would never wish upon anybody, not even my worst enemy.

I wouldn't do it. You can't trust people really anymore.

Hmmmm...

I don't see any problem with meeting up with ppl you meet online as long as you know what you are doing. Take things slowly and you'll be fine. It would be pretty dumb to just rush into meeting someone you just met online a few days/weeks ago.

Personally, I've met dozens of runescape players in real life. Even hosted lan partys for the Icelandic community and was the first to do so (Only 3 attended at the first lan party, but it's grown since then :P The Icelandic community in itself is almost like a small clan imo :D).

I've also met a few ppl in real life that I've met in irc chatrooms (Those were the first ppl I met from the internet, I was 16 years old (currently 20) when I met up with someone for the first time. Met up for easy access on large amounts of files, such as anime collections and such. They were and are still good friends of mine) and I've met many of the Battlefield/Moh:aa/Cod players of Iceland via large lan parties.

Since Iceland is so dang small, the whole country would know if anything would happen to anyone attending such meetings anywayz...

It's a good way of making friends if you ask me :D

I guess it's a lot down to age. I don't think it's a good idea for younger people to meet up. If the people that are meeting up are adults there isn't a problem with it. Recently i met up with 3 people that use my irc channel. we're all in our early 20's. All at uni too so we're all used to travelling long distances to get places.

What about if you saw them on webcam, etc before you met?

If I saw them on a webcame etc I would be alright I would do it. I would need to hear them and see them to confirm their idendity before I would meet up with them because they can easily put up a fake picture of them. But still it would be really cool if I met a rs friend irl, then our friendship would be closer as well ::'

ive never met up with someone, but i have talked over the phone, and its extremely odd...

I've met two people in real life, and then met them on RS. I've met Greenboy1134 from these forums too, our schools are practically right beside eachother.

jordangmsunset.jpg

Throughout the years, I've seen three people at my school play Runescape. All three looked like the typical description of nerd. One of them had very little height, chubby, had big glasses, would get picked on by other kids, had low self confidence, etc. The other two were tall, had pimples all over their face, spend their days talking about video games, and playing them, they had a horribly nerdy and ugly clothes, radically unkept hair, etc.

Lol really, you don't want to meet people who play Runescape.

2480+ total

One of my RS/TIF friends lives pretty close to me (Fadfdfd, he quit TIF), and I've been trying to convince him to meet up at a Red Sox game sometime next season :P He's 14 and I'm 13, I would be 14 by the time we met up at a Sox game, and he might be 15, not sure when his b-day is. But it would obviously be pretty awkward at first, but then it would be pretty sweet :P

Yikes, if I met someone I met in runescape in real life, I would be nervous. I haven;t known them all my life, and I have no clue what their personality is or how old they may be. As I can be a little shy around people I never met before, this will be even more nerve-wrecking! :ohnoes:

Nah, its rare i find somebody who doesnt stereotype me for stupid reasons like the music i listen to which most of this forum does.

Plus the way i dress etc, id get called scene or something, when im not.

Id rather just go meet people off myspace which i do all the time anyways since 75%+ of this forum is fake anyways.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayl4.png

Quit. PM me if you play The Conduit to exchange friend codes.

Iv no problem with it tbh.

Theres a few people on rs i would consider meeting, and theres one tipiter i wouldn't hesitate too.

As long as you approach the situation cautiously i think its perfectly alright.

We can breath in space, they just don't want us to escape

I probably would not ever meet a single person from online. That's just crazy risky and the Internets are full of strange fishes.

But if I was in a clan of local players and they all wanted to go to some safe public place like Pizza Hut for a gathering or such, yeah I would think that is safe.

PvP is not for me

In the 3rd Year of the Boycott
Real-world money saved since FT/W: Hundreds of Dollars
Real-world time saved since FT/W: Thousands of Hours

I wouldn't ever do something like that purely for the fact that it's most likely going to be dangererous or unsafe. I don't know about you guys, but I prefer to keep what I do online and who I'm friends with online seperate with my real social life.

I wouldn't meet any online contacts in real life for the above reasons. I'm paranoid about people on the Internet, and my parents feel the same way.

I did meet someone (on another forum) in real life after I learned that he worked at my university, but that's only after I did careful checks against the school's directory to make sure that he indeed worked at my school.
