So how DO you make a large amount of money now?

Featured Replies

The funniest part is.. with staking and pking, the gold was constantly moving arround..

Now with the new updates people like urballzrmine will be richest players on rs forever, as they have no possible way to lose 22 billion+ gp.

So the rich stakers are still richer then all you people crying about how they unfairly made their mils, and have no chance of ever losing it.

Even if true -- who cares?

I mean, honestly.. does it matter if some guy I don't know has 2 billion gp or 22 billion gp?

Frankly, I'd be bored stiff if I had that much money.

It's this whole obsession with wealth that I hope will start to fade from the game now.

Getting a lot of money through slaying is quite hard, I worked out that if every monster I'd ever killed had been a slayer monster (for slayer xp) I wouldn't have enough xp to take on Abyssal Demons, and I'm level 86. I know it's not that high but it demonstrates that slaying is in no way a quick way to get money.

not quick, still an amazing money-maker.

People will start doing their own work.

For example

Chop yews

Cut into longbows (u)

Gather flax

Spin into bowstring

Attach them together

I expect there 2 be an increase in skillers/runecrafters...this may mean a change in nat prices.

I have to admit, at first, I was pretty disappointed with the update. Now, I'm thinking otherwise.

It was getting so you could just buy skills such as prayer/herblore etc. Now it'll be a bit more difficult. I think it's great that the money is returning to where it should be spent...on raw items as opposed to raising the price of rares to ridiculous levels.

As for those who complain that they won't be able to make money lightning fast, well, perhaps this isn't the game for you anyway. Long live the skills! As a 90 slayer, money doesn't come fast, but if you're willing to put in the work, it'll come.

good thing i have enough money banked , to NEVER have to worry about making more <3:

Yes, and the price of pure essence is skyrocketing. This is all part of why I said the profitability of RC will be taking a big hit.

Whenever some ways of making money are removed, people shift into others, and that puts downward pressure on the profits from those activities. Not a bad thing, IMO.

For me, the appeal of a game like Runescape has always been the chance to interact openly with other players, to acquire money and new, cool items and use them, and explore the world. Now, however, cooperation is severely limited to the point of being dead, and trade is stagnating too. Not yet, mind you, but riddle me this: come January, when these changes are implemented, why would people buy much of anything?

To make the money TO buy something you have to spend so much time and effort now that you're better off MAKING IT YOURSELF.

Some people have said this is good, because they get materials and make things, then sell them. But WHO THE HELL WILL BUY in light of this? The market is going to slow to a crawl.

In addition, most items are pretty much useless now. Why does a God Sword matter? Or the (already pretty crappy) whip special? These things were useful for PKing, and that's a wasted art now. These items are next to worthless now. They're not good for showing off, because they don't mean you've played smarter or worked harder, they just mean you've been grinding levels longer.

The rares market is over, period. It's going to be flat out too hard to get the money to buy many of them, and no one who spent hundreds of millions on a party hat is going to sell it for much less.

Runescape, sadly, will not die. But I can't see it being a sustainable game. The economy, for the reasons I've stated, is going to be pathetically weak, and many players like myself just won't see the point in such a restrictive game.

It isn't going to die, but it can't live either - Runescape is officially undead.

So how DO you make a large amount of money now?

"Macro combat skills and sell accounts online" - Ex asian gold farmers

So funny that real world trading will still happen, isn't it? These people make their money doing this, and they're going to find a way to keep making their money. Now they'll sell accounts out-of-game instead of items in-game, and hell, these people are dedicated, I'm sure they'll find plenty of other ways too.

Wanna stop RWT once and for all? There's only one way - end Runescape. Otherwise, stop punishing the honest players.

Pure essence prices have rised quite a bit :|.

If pure essence prices go up nature runes won't go lower.

But wasn't the majority of nats bought by people wanting to alch to at least 85 magic, higher preferably, for PKing purposes?

Will there still be such a huge demand for these runes, with such a smaller base of players dedicated to raising such a high mage level?

"Warning: If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don't you have other things to do? Is your life so empty that you honestly can't think of a better way to spend these moments? Or are you so impressed with authority that you give respect and credence to all that claim it? Do you read everything you're supposed to read? Do you think every thing you're supposed to think? Buy what you're told to want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member of the opposite sex. Stop the excessive shopping and masturbation. Quit your job. Start a fight. Prove you're alive. If you don't claim your humanity you will become a statistic. You have been warned- Tyler"

Well, if what people are saying and raw material prices are going up, then buy them all now! A few thousand yews here and there build up, suddenly they are costing 450gp each, you can sell them and make a beefy profit.

Would work for now at least.

Whats the point in getting money anymore.

What are you going to do, buy more supplies so you can hunt, fish, and try to buy partyhats?

Boring....

The whole point of leveling up is to be better then everyone. Now theres no point.

A lot of people seem to be saying things like this... "we can't pk, we can't stake, there's no point in high combat levels."

We still have Castle Wars and Fight Pits.

We have Duel Tournaments.

There's Bounty Hunter.

There are plenty of uses for high combat levels and ways to show them off- some profitable, some fun. 99 range, 99 mage, and 126 combat are still worthy goals and good to have.

RS isn't "just grinding" now... all that we lost is pking (in its previous form) and the ability to make unbalanced trades. We still have just about EVERYTHING ELSE.

Yes, team monster hunting might have taken a hit, but there are workable solutions to that that Jagex could implement, as Qelter pointed out in his excellent article.

Many people do NOT feel that what we've lost is in any way balanced by what Jagex has tried to introduce, for many good reasons. It may be your opinion that nothing much has been lost, but an innumerable number of players couldn't disagree more. For some players, what has been lost was ALL that made the game enjoyable. For others, the game was based around a level of freedom that is now forbidden.

Secondly, how often does Jagex actually listen? Less than would be pertinent.

Maybe you don't think this ruins the game. I disagree.

People are WAY too hung up on "making loads of money". The updates this month will change that, slowly, I hope.

Yes, because it is so enjoyable to have to lose money with no hope of even breaking even, when leveling a skill. I don't know about you, but a fantasy world seems to imply one that isn't just like real life. It's a world with monsters to slay, fair maids to rescue, vast treasures ripe for the taking, and heroes pitting their skills against the world hoping to win the right to tread the bejeweled corridors of power.

If I wanted a crappy boring, repetitive job with little or no reward, I would have stayed at Kinkos.

You misunderstand me. I never said that nothing was lost by these updates; I said that there are still ways to show off and have fun with high combat levels. The statement that there's no more use for 99 ranged or magic because they aren't efficient ways to kill monsters is flawed, as is the statement that Godswords and other awesome, but perhaps inefficient pieces of equipment are useless.

Of course some people prefer pking and staking to the new methods that we have, but that doesn't mean that there's no more use for the skills that people trained for pking.

EDIT: Forgive me if I implied that pking isn't a significant loss when I said that "all that we lost is pking (in its previous form)." That was not my intention.

Even with a very high wc level, that would take many hours just for a measly 768k.

And I don't see a great demand for a lot of resources anymore. 90%(made it up) of all sharks were used for pk'ing. Yes, some rich guys trained with them. And some guys used them for kq/gwd. But with pk'ing gone, there won't be a great demand.

Nat crafting profits will shoot way down.

Mining.....ewwwww.

WC.........unless you have a very high level, this won't be very good

I guess there is still monster hunting when you are the lucky one that gets the chain or shard, but I just don't see the money making potential there once was.

Welcome to the depression. It's where the last 2 months have left us pretty much.

Like it or not PKers, stakers, and merchants were important parts of our little economy. I forsee things like cooking to become huge money pits with no one buying cooked sharks.

Hmmm yes I expect there will be some price changes. Bounty Hunter will help but most pkers won't be playing in multi (BH is multi) because it requires a large team.

As some people have said - Why the obsession with acquiring loads of pixels that represent money in the shortest possible time? Its this obsession that has brought us to our current situation. If people did not have this obsession then RWT would not have customers, so they would not exist. If they din't exist then 90% of bot and all gold farmers would not exist. If the autoers/gold farmers did not exist then Jagex would not have need to take the drastic steps they have just taken.

So, basically our whole situation is due to people like the author who are obsessed with getting rich quick.

RUNE CRAFTING!!!! people with 91+ rc can make over 70 million a month if they play a bunch

and monster killing! ever heard of a visage? god sward hilt? SLAYER MONSTERS?!!?

people are so used to swindling noobs in the wildy and scamming (x loging and rule switching) in duels, that they dont know how to make money now. It really makes me sick.

Runecrafting is INCREDIBLY dull and time consuming. Trust me. I know. I have lvl 50 runecrafting. And the god sword hilts? They're 100 mil and up (sorry, don't know their current prices) because they're so common. And have you fought one of those bosses? I haven't. And stop bashing PK'ers, they are NOT as bad as people tend to suggest.

wow 50 rc u've really invested some time into that skill *rolls eyes*

Yet you'd prefer to stand around typing (or auto typer) making money?

Heaps more fun...

I, my good sir, have never used an auto typer. Which was why I was so happy about the Grand Exchange... Although that happiness has turned to bitter ash.
If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?
