What do you mean by no lifer?

Recommended Posts

Someone who plays Runescape more than he/she either:

a) Spends time with their family.

B) Spends time at work.

c) Spends time sleeping.

d) Spends time at school.

e) Spends time at social events.

To me a no lifer is someone who puts RuneScape above their family, friends, and career.

I don't fall under that category. I play an average of 5 hours a day (sometimes 10+), but those other aspects of my life absolutely come first.

A no-lifer for me=Someone who plays RS so much that he or she can't take care of his or her in real life.

I play about 3hrs every 2 days, anyone who plays like 10+ a day has no life in my eyes. Some people arnt really socail life , for various reasoons, that doesnt mean they have no life... jsut means they dont get on with people that well.

Remember that it can come down to circumstance too. When i'm staying at my parents between semesters, there literally isn't anyone around for 5 miles in every direction. I've got a lot of friends in nearby towns but it isn't exactly feasible to make that trip every night, considering i dont have a car and local transport stops at 8pm.

I'm a really social person, and i can't stand going for long times without social interaction, that's why i play Rs when i'm home, to chat and generally socialise. If i don't have anything else to do i can happily spend 10-12 hours a day on and off on rs. Primarily to socialise, not to be anti-social. Likewise, while i'm back at uni and living in my house with mates, i'd rarely be online for more than an hour or so per day.

Watch the southpark WoW episode... No lifers are summed up perfectly.

Most of those apply to other people as well, and not only nolifers...

If you find yourself avoiding social interaction if you even have friends by this time, or avoiding neccisities like eating and sleeping, then you are a no lifer.

The rule at my house you can only play runescape on Friday, Saturday, and sunday( this also includes days you are sick and cant go to school, snowdays and off days from school) Now during holidays like winter break going on now, i play at least 2 hours a day. The weekends is at least 4 hours a day. The only time i really no-lifed was whe i was going for 99 firemaking. Id play atleast 10+ hours a day...man that was stupid for me to do :x

I only play Runescape when I have time. I have only recently joined the game anyway, and with Christmas (Merry Christmas all) and then my exams in the new year, I just don't have the time to be spending hours on runescape. I spend about 5 hours a week on runescape, and that does me fine. I play runescape to kill some spare time, but my school work, my friend and my family are much more important.

Some people who have played the game for a long time will think of their character as part of them, they may want to play for long periods of time and at the end of the day that is up to them, but they have to deal with the consequences of playing runescape for long periods of time. Each person can choose how to live their own life, and if some people think playing runescape from morning to night is a good way to live, then I have nothing against them.

I have 2 different opinions on a no-lifer.

First of all there is what i call a runescape no-lifer. They spend 2 weeks straight chopping willows (example) whenever they're on runescape and ignoring their friends invitations for various events (DK's, GWD etc etc)

Then there is a social life no-lifer. These are the people who ignore their friends requests to come out, go clubbing, partying etc etc. They ignore thier friends to achieve a certain goal or just ignore their friends for a lengthy period of time to achieve a goal or they are just generally addicted to runescape.

In now way dos having a high total level or combat level make you a no-lifer. Its called time management. Whenever im on the bus home from school, town etc etc and if im not with friends i decide what im going to do if i am going to play runescape when i get home. That is time management. Its knowing what you are going to do for how long.

I.E last tuesday on my way home after finishing school, i had gone into town after school on my own so i was obviously on the bu home on my own. I though what i was going to do when i got home. I decided i would

play runescape for 2 hours cutting yews, then i would shower, have dinner and then head to my friends house party. That is time management and its what alot of high level player seem to do in some form or another.

It's really rather inaccurate to define no-lifing according to the amount of time spent per day. There was a time before I made a friend within walking distance, that I very rarely was able to go and hang out with friends, due to several circumstances, though if I could've, I would've. So there was one summer where I spent the large majority of my waking hours on Runescape. You can't just assume that all players either live in places where either public transportation or walking are feasible methods of travel.

Therefore while there may be many definitions of no-lifing, none of the truly accurate ones can be used to label anybody, unless you personally know them.

P.S. I know a guy who got bored while his RS membership was off and went and chopped down a tree in his back yard "because his Runescape character can do it" :?

I don't get the concept behind No-Lifer. Everyone has a life that's why they are alive. I don't judge people on how much time they play because they might have some circumstances in real life.

For example, doesn't mean people with many 99 skills they are classified as No-Lifers, that's just wrong. Sometimes in the game, I've been called No-Lifer and I don't even spend more than 8 hours in one day playing, whereas I see people who play more than 15 hours and I don't even complain because you know what? it is non of my business. When it comes to me I get called a No-Lifer, when it comes to other players who spend more time playing, people don't say anything at them. I actually observed this kind of situation. You can have a great life and be a great player at the same time. However, it is very wrong to judge people online because we don't know them in an actual image.

Also, for this issue ---> never had a boyfriend or a girlfriend because of a game/being a No-Lifer/not having a life etc... some people don't like this kind of issue even if they get liked or asked out by somebody because it is not that important to them in their life. They might care about other issues which they find them more important.

Some people just don't understand circumstances with a person's life.....sometimes other things are happening in their lives and they play runescape for an escape....why judge others on the internet, that means you are insecure in the first place.

Its good when everyone is contributing their honest opinion regarding this matter. So I guess I will just give some personal opinion as well, in fact most of them have been covered by many others contribute to this post so far

The term arises several time when I train at several places, observing and of course my own experience. People tend to ask how long you have been playing when they see you are a high combat or skill lvl (of course, they might as if you have been a member or not, that tend to speed things up abit).

Mostly, if you manage to train fast (compare to a norm, depend on how many hrs), people tend to think you spend alot of time beside computer doing nothing but a repetitive tasks and ignore anything else around you. Mainly, some jump straight to conclusion that high lvl equals time on RS more, and people tend to make nasty comments to provoke other players. But all they see is your combat and skill, and never think beyond other factors which might contribute to this achievement such as

good time management

long term dedication to the game

Efficient training style

And hopefully, the points provide by others on this post will let other players know, apperances dont explain alot of things, no point to judge someone by their lvls, but instead focus on whats important to you, keep balance in your life, and respect a player not just by their lvls, but how they treat others.

Interesting note where one of the recent post also mention players regret the time they spend on RS could be contribute to something better in RL. So not much in blaming RS or anything, simply, it is their choice to dedicate their own time to RS. and like some other players mentioned, you will need to face the consequences of your action later.

In my own view, you can train alot while you are still in school, but once you go into real world where job, and many other things concern over this game. The time spend on RS dimishes (not saying that sounds like a bad things, of course, there is always transitions to things as life progresses)

My own RS quote

"No matter how much you wish to accomplish in RS, Reality will catch you in the end"

I spend a lot (I really mean a lot) of time on runescape and do consider most of it wasted. However I have a family and social life too. I will quit in 6 months.

As a student I spent two years grant to play slot machines in 3 months. I spent tens of thousands of dollars over the next few years. I do not play them now.

I have no idea what my next obsession will be I just hope its not expensive and useless.

Umm, suggestion? Self discipline?

If you think you will get obsessed as easily as you think you are, then you will. Just live life, and if you get obsessed again, take action acordingly.

If you 'will' quit in 6 months you are just postponing it. "Oh, yeah Ill quit smoking, next week" We have all heard that story.
