Most over-rated band ever?

I would say Led Zepplin. They played a lot into the media and "Stairway To Heaven" was their only decent song imo.

You really haven't listened to anything but your local classic rock radio station if you think Stairway to Heaven is their best song. There are at least 5 songs I can name that I think are better than Stairway to Heaven.

Which really shows that Stairway to Heaven is overrated, doesn't it?

But not Led Zeppelin. This is about bands, not songs.

Soulja Boy's *Crank Dat* - Pull your pants up, speak english not gangsta, and maybe you'll be good in the music industry.

Looks like he's doing just fine.

The flat out truth of this statement made me laugh hard. Also, Adio, your sig is hilarious.

Another band I can think of is Cobra Starship. Their fans push them to otherworldly heights, but they sound the same as every alternative/pop-punk band that went before them.

Dragonforce give power metal a bad name and deserve to be expelled from the subgenre. They can take Rhapsody of Fire, Dragonland and Dark Moor with them too.

What do you dislike about Dark Moor? I personally think The Hall of the Olden Dreams is one of the best power metal albums out there. However, if you're aiming the comment at their later work, I can sort of agree.

Anyway, here are all the main bands which I think are overrated:

The Beatles

Death

Dragonforce

Necrophagist

Nightwish

Opeth

Pink Floyd

Queen

Rhapsody of Fire (I used to love them but have now realised how monotonous and uninspired their music is)

Care to explain a bit? Just wondering.

I've changed my mind about Pink Floyd after listening to The Wall, which was great.

Hahahaha, there may be a reason why STH is the most played song on radio ever. Definately not my favourite song of theirs, not by a long shot, but it's still gold. They played alot into the media? Led Zepp were very reclusive in the media, doing very few interviews and releasing very few singles.

Haha, who ever decided to listen to Dark Side of the Moon whilst watching Wizard of Oz must of been fried out of their head.

And on a serious note, whats going on with tif? I haven't been on here for a few months, and I come back and alot of people have turned into /b/tards?

@ Suiblade: I disagree with Pink Floyd being over-rated. Sure, not all their albums are gold like some would like to think but they have some very quality early material.

I don't think Pink Floyd is overrated. Dark side of the moon maybe. But when you've made albums like the Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Meddle, Wish you were here and Animals, you deserve all the credit you get. Besides, DSOTM is a good record as well.

It is a shame though. There are much more exciting groups from that era, that are a lot less heard than Floyd. You always here people about Dark side of the moon. But you hardly hear people about Tago Mago or Ege Bamyasi.

What do you dislike about Dark Moor? I personally think The Hall of the Olden Dreams is one of the best power metal albums out there. However, if you're aiming the comment at their later work, I can sort of agree. - I think the mood ruins the music, as with a lot of power metal. Plus, Dark Moor sound so heavily Spanish that it's hard to understand. I have similar problems with Sonata, but I much prefer the mood and subject matter of Sonata's songs.

Anyway, here are all the main bands which I think are overrated:

The Beatles - Disagree, after all they've done for the music industry they're hardly overrated.

Death - Agree. Chuck Schuldiner was a good player, but a lot of death metal (except for melodeath, really) bores the hell out of me.

Dragonforce - Agree, ZP Theart wins the award for the stupidest power metal voice ever. Also, their songs are ludicrous.

Necrophagist

Nightwish - Agree, unless it's Oceanborn or Angels Fall First. Wishmaster and Century Child were horrible, and so is Dark Passion Play.

Opeth - Agree, but only if it's post Damnation.

Pink Floyd - Disagree heavily, their influence on prog rock continues to the present day. Similar case to The Beatles.

Queen - Same as Pink Floyd/Beatles.

Rhapsody of Fire (I used to love them but have now realised how monotonous and uninspired their music is) - Agree, it's as boring as ____.

The Beatles. That is that group based around Chuck Berry and Frank Zappa, am I right?

Nightwish

Opeth

Pink Floyd

Care to explain a bit? Just wondering.

Nightwish: They've written some excellent songs, however, the majority of their work lacks feeling and doesn't really go anywhere.

Opeth: Their music is dull, repetitive and sometimes pretentious. My opinion, of course.

Pink Floyd: Undoubtedly a great band, but there were many other great bands in their time that were overlooked. Also, I wouldn't say Dark Side of the Moon is one of their best albums, yet everyone seems to praise it.

I'm not very good at getting my feelings/thoughts onto paper (or in this case a message board) but I hope I've made things clear.

Then you think the album itself is overrated, not the band?

Dark Side of the Moon stayed on Billboard 200 for over 20 years...that's pretty impressive to me; and the fact that I like that album. Not as much as Wish You Were Here though.

Pink Floyd are one of those bands you just have to 'get'.

It's definitely an acquired taste, and not everyone fully understands.

I don't, I haven't got the time/opportunity/patience to listen to some of their songs.

I was kind of like that when I first heard them, but when I first heard them I was watching their live performance. I wad thinking to myself wtf is this? Thier live stuff catered to those tripping out of their head on acid, so it was over the top lighting huge tv screen playing music videos behind them, just, over the top sort of show.

But now I love them, one of my favourite bands, specially their live music, so awesome.

*braces for flaming* I vote Greenday.

They can get run over on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams for all I care. I hope they never wake up when september ends. Good riddance when they die. I hope the bullet in the bible goes through it and kills them. *continues with bad green day song puns*

That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

pink floyd died when syd left and they weren't even that good then.

Come on, a couple of months ago you agreed that Meddle and Wish you were here were good records as well.

Indeed, even dead bands can have quality records. I'll always consider Meddle to be an odd exception and WYWH sounds more like recollecting the old days, although the title track borders on country sometimes. Not a real problem, though. I'm not denying my approval of these records, I do like them, but Pink Floyd was effectively dead after Syd had left. They seemed just to be 'Floyd'.
