June 14, 200818 yr I'd use the Berzeker Shield from FOG since it's cheap and I'm guessing you can't afford a DFS atm. But an obby shield is good too. June 14, 200818 yr Ah yes. D Squares are ftw. But I personally use a rune defender on slayer. With a whip, it's quite amazing offense, and it's also +20 in most defense anyway, so it's not like your completely forgoing shield defense.
June 14, 200818 yr I have no experience with defenders, but as multipurpose I really like d squares. Still for most slayer (low atk high hp low def) I agree that a defender would be a much better choice. And to add to that I may be just about the only person that likes these but a guthix book of balance can give some nice multipurpose stat boosts. Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again
June 14, 200818 yr The Guthix book attack bonus is... nothing, really. Same with the defense. You'd never notice it. If you want the +4 magic def, get a sara book instead. Or a Mind Shield. But I suggest getting a Rune Defender for multipurpose, a D Square for harder monsters, and save up for a Dragonfire shield.

June 14, 200818 yr i don't really like obby shields...if you want cheap good def use granite...if you want cheap good mix of offense and defense use rune defender...obby shield is much more expensive than granite and only gives a 5 str bonus...for harder monsters try using dragon [] which is very good value for its low price...dfs are a bit over priced if u ask me but well you have to expect that from the best shield in the game... maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cookinglife may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?my fake plant died because i forgot to pretend to water it

I can't stand a shield without atleast some offense bonuses. But still, dragonfire owns all 8-) Thanks to all those who have messaged me concerning a revamp of my Range-Slayer guide. June 14, 200818 yr I'd say an obby shield. Its a lot cheaper than a dragon square, and it doesn't really lose out defence wise. Not a big fan of rune defenders though. Yes, flame me for it. I use a dragon square, acts as bling while still being useful. :D
June 14, 200818 yr Okay then, here's my solution. Get 90 Defense and THEN use a rune defender. :P Really, that offense is totally awesome. And as long as you use Guthans/B2P to heal instead of an inventory of food, it's not that bad. I tried out a d sq for a while, but I really did miss the extra attack. Get a Rune defender or twelve.
June 14, 200818 yr DON'T use prayer books. something effective like a dragon square or an obsidian shield would be good choices. dragfire would be probably too expensive. rune defender is only useful on higher lvls because of their sustainable defence.

June 14, 200818 yr Rune Defender is your best bet. If you are getting hit too often and need defense the the Dragonfire Shield is the best option, however a Rune Kite should suffice. Guthans and Bunyips help a lot ;) Trust the Gene Genie!
