racist question

Everyone is racist, whether you want to admit or not there are just certain levels.

(probably been said, I didn't read other posts)

Care to explain how?

Such as personally noticing you dislike certain races?Voicing out your hatred? Then doing things that they dislike/are forbidden to do?

But of course some are jokes, there's a line though, don't cross it.

If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".

If someone called me it, I wouldn't be offended, but I'd be worried, because about 90% of my friends are African American, so I wouldn't want them to think I think poorly of them.

I don't consider myself racist, but I hate it when someone's accused of being racist they're like, "I'm not racist, some of my best friends are !" Sounds like they just keep them around so they can deny being racist.

Especially when they say that their friends "just happen" to be black. Like it's some kind of mistake.

I don't think it would bother me, because it isn't true, and even if everyone else thinks it's true I know it isn't.

True, but stereotyping is a way of being racist.Basically assuming X about race Y is "racism".You may not realise it,but its true.Yeah I really dig into the meaning of words in my free time...

I only even know two black people. But actually most of my friends are Mexican, a few of their parents are illegal. Doesn't make me think any less of them (especially since they have a lot nicer stuff than me :?).

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Not really, and nor are jokes.

Racial jokes, especially, aren't racist. I mean an actual racist guy would just sit there, listen to the joke, and go "yup.". They're funny because they're so stupidly stereotypical.

I know, thats just how far I've been digging into the meaning of "racist".Its just too exagerrated and sometimes I'm not sure which definition is real and which is exagerrated.I got a little confused there...

I think racist is just believing that another race is inferior because of the color of their skin.

I guess stereotyping could be a degree of racism, but I don't think it is really the same thing. Usually it's more out of ignorance then actual hate like racism.

And I do stand by that racial jokes aren't bad just due to their exaggerated manner.

I wouldn't care. People call you racist if you make a steryotype (two very different things, may I add) or if you make a racial joke.

Honestly, I think I'm a little racist myself. I don't like the "ghetto black" attitude (that's what we call it in our family when a person acts 'gangster' or from the ghetto), but if they're black and at least try in school and don't push people around, I don't care much.

That's hating the attitude though more then the race. I mean, I dislike the whole "emo" phase some kids go through -- yet I don't hate white people (seems most emo's are white).

I guess I could be considered racist, I try to not show it though. In my head however, I think racist thoughts.

Though still, I think I'm more like Derek_Zoolander, I don't like attitudes rather than the race. It's not that I don't like black people, it's that I don't like "gangstas." In fact, now that I think of it, I know a few white "gangstas", and I don't like them either.

And I make racial jokes. A lot. And people throw the word racist around all the time, in fact whenever I say the word "black", it seems like someone calls me a racist.

So I wouldn't care.

Racism is a prejudice of someone based mainly on their ethnicity, race or genetic inheritance.

For the comments about positive discrimination, it's not racist at all. An employer doesn't employ a black person over a white person out of fear of being branded a racist. At least, I've heard no employer say they're scared, I've only heard certain politicians. Jobs are still provided according to ability, not race.

All it does is provide a balance. A black person will suffer de facto racism when applying for a job, and as such, has opportunities denied to them which would otherwise be open if they were white. In the event two candidates are equally matched, the employer is encouraged (not forced) to employ the black person for this reason. (I note that all the people in the media who whine about positive discrimination are white. Nice to see they care about racism when the roles are reversed.)

If someone called me a racist, I'd laugh in their face. There is absolutely no way I am a racist, so it doesn't bother me.

Well, if stereotyping is a form of racism then I'm guilty as charge. I don't consider any race superior to others - hell, we're all people capable of emotions and thought - that's equality in my book. The thing is our race usually contributes to how we think, what we feel, what we like, etc. That's why you mostly only see white people listen to rock and black people listen to rap. There is a difference, but that doesn't make anyone better than anyone else.

I don't get quite annoyed. but really there's only a few people that call me that, and I know they're joking.

If I was ever being labeled as one for real, I dunno. I doubt I ever will, I'm one of the most liberal guys you'll probably meet.

EDIT: Don't you all just DESPISE grammar?

Hell, I already am concidered a racist by some over-reacting white people because I say some jokes...

But who cares? Comedy is comedy and if some ignorant anti-racist guy overhears me he can't really attack me on it. I did say the joke to my friend not you. I only say racist jokes with people I know don't mind them; it'll be kinda stupid coming to my future boss and saying "Whats up whitey?" But to my white friend it'll be ok since he knows I'm not racist.

this is where i am, do I just hate the culture stuff? because i dont consider any race really inferior to me, I just think similarly of the black "thug". In my town their is no reason to act like that.

also, the emo thing I dont like either.

this post has nothing to do with race.

But, walmart at least in my town does not hire on quality. They hire out of sympathy. alot of people are the kind of people who are mentally challenged or like have a learning disorder or who are physically different then most of society.

Such as this one guy, i saw at walmart he had one arm.

Just because he has one arm doesn't mean he's incapable of operating a till, for example. It doesn't remove his ability to conduct basic mathematical equations either.

Second to that, how do you know there was a better candidate stood against him? You've just looked at the guy, and presumed he was hired through sympathy.

For all you know, he could be a volunteer on work experience and didn't even go through the usual employment process.

I hate it when people call me racist because I say black. Ooh, that guy is black. I'm such a racist.

And don't lie. Don't give me that stuff "oh im not offended when people call me racist" because words hurt as much as being different for your skin color. I personally am offended when people call me racist because they have the perception I am a racist which I am not.

You can feel free to call me racist, because I am. If you don't like it, then fine don't speak to me, it really makes no difference. I've got plenty of friends and you really don't matter. I discriminate against all races, including my own.

I'm what I call an equal opportunity hater, but that also means i'm friends with all groups, not just my own, as long as your not a douche.

Indeed. Most of my friends call me racist because 90% of the black people I know are ghetto black, and so when I say something about it, they get all mad and stuff.

I am not saying he wasnt capable of the job, I sympathized with the guy. My friend andy worked at this walmart and his brother also works at the even larger walmart that has 4 times the employees of this one. My friend has told me of over half dozen times where he knew different potential employees and their background and such. And yet, the less capable received the job.

anyway, not to mention things like this look good to companys. My dad worked for a company who would hire temp employees through an agency and then hire them on full time. Only one black and one mexican person worked at this place. And they were never allowed to become "full" employees. They would withhold nearly a 2 dollar raise from them insurance possibilities and things like union benefits. The reason they did this was because the company HAD to have at least one minoirity working for them.

anyway this has gotten off topic. I would like to leave it at that.

Who the hell are you to say they don't hire on quality. Do you know the physical strength of someone who has down syndrome? Or the learning capability of an Autistic person who loves their job? The memory capability of someone who has Aspergers? The creative genius and sometimes the associated 130+ IQ of being a bipolar person? There is a man down the street from me with 1 hand and 2 fingers, he can work the cash register faster than anyone I've ever seen. They have qualities that are better than you in many ways so don't even attempt to limit them. Perhaps whoever is doing the hiring knows a lot more than you apparently do. Especially if they came through hiring agencies who have experts in their fields. Don't believe everything your father/friends tell you because their opinions seem pretty ignorant.

The stories of his friends and from his father are ignorant. This might not make them ignorant people overall but they're still ignorant for what they said. It would be my bet jessy87 that you spend too much time listening to other people and a lot less time going out and making judgments for yourself. If you don't know where you got all this from, I'm seeing a trend. A lot of your experiences and judgments have been made by people influencing you with their stories rather than incidents that you've actually been in.
