Runners in Fist of Guthix

I'm a fairly good FoG runner, and enjoy winning most of the time. It's actually kind of nice that most people consider it nubbish, because my opponents often will leave the arena, and most of the time they aren't runners. So, double bonus for me

Pretty sure that Fist of Guthix is war.....

Although i do agree that obstacles 1/4 of your height shouldn't block ranged or mage

That doesn't mean I don't exploit it though ::'

I remember playing FoG one time. Some random guy was saying "Person X is a runner noob!"

Then I play a game against Person X. As a hunter, I didn't dash to the center but took the outside route. Met Person X halfway, then killed him. It's the only time that hearing someone get called a runner noob has made me... happy.

Back OT: I have three basic categories for techniques: Honorable legal (champ), Dishonorable legal (cheap), and Illegal (cheat). I'm sure everyone uses these categories; only the stuff inside the categories differs from person to person. I consider almost everything you can legally do in FoG to be Honorable legal (this includes tanking, house-hopping, and running).

The only thing I consider dishonorable legal is "abusing the chat box," which includes lying to your opponent about your charge status or drawing pornographic ASCII art. Using @@@@@@ to cover your health bar is borderline honorable/dishonorable. Illegal techniques would be hacking into the RS client. I haven't seen any illegal techniques.

I'm a hider/tanker hybrid with a bit of running mixed in. I win a lot of my games. My usual response to those who call me a runner/hider noob is "I beat you" or "I won." Because winning (legally) is everything ;) .

My strategy against runner/hider noobs is simple: Find them, entangle, lay in one or two dds specs, attack normally until they run out of sight (since they should have more run energy). Go to the center. If the prey starts wall-hugging again, rest assured that your poison will do the trick.

[/hide]

Abusing the chat box is dishonorable legal? Legal, my face! Reportable under offensive language, and as a hunter I frequently stop to report one or two if I smell an easy game. You can take your leet FoG tactics elsewhere, spammers, we want to play normally kthx.

I also win a lot of my games. My personal motto in FoG: "Go in the middle when he's not expecting it." When I go in a portal chamber, most people run away to the other side of the map - it's surprising to see how many people don't know I can simply walk out and charge up at the fist.

And about FoG, the strange thing is: there are more high-level idiots than low-level ones. Last time I beat a level 110-ish (he just tanked in the center, put on protect from melee and probably went AFK; I used newby earth blast and soon he died'd - with hardly any charges to my 1100-something), he went up to me after the match and started deforming my chatbox contents. I was like "Enjoy your ban". Low levels seem not to lament about their losses so much, and I get no more losses to high levels than to low levels.

As to the morons who think of FoG as a mage training place: there is a whole area named after its purpose, and the free runes are not there so that you can level up. This is one of the only cases where I'll purposefully try to hide under big fat stacks of other people.

Abusing the chatbox is not allowed in RS. But since the rule isn't strictly enforced, it's de facto legal.

I'm in the mid lv 90's. I've beaten lvl 100's, 110's, and on one memorable occasion, a lvl 138. I've also been beaten by a lvl 60. I know what it's like to lose a match that was supposed to be in your favor. It's not a nice feeling, but trashtalking your good/lucky opponent doesn't help. Examining where you went wrong does help.

As for mage training in FoG... have you heard of the term "emergent gameplay"? This is exactly what it is. FoG wasn't designed for free mage exp, but free mage exp it is nonetheless. Perhaps an exp reduction while playing FoG (sorta like the one in PC) is a good idea. Perhaps not.

Anyway, I won't call them a running noob unless they use the rocks to hide when I'm ranging or maging, this just pisses me off. The buidlings are all good, but the rocks, at 1/5 your characters height arn't even mageable over, and its really just taking advantage of the following and atking system which fails.

At least the rocks at the very center are mageable/rangeable over. As a hunter, I'd prefer rocks I can't mage/range over than walls I can't mage/range over (so clicking the prey is easier). As for the follow system, I know it fails. As hunted, I like to take advantage of it, getting my opponent stuck behind some obstacles and forcing them to break their "target lock".

I though FoG has an exp reduction to half exp? :-s

There is a reduction, I don't know how much, but the xp isn't quite what it should be.

And FoG is a personal War, you vs. the opponent if he wins, you lose points and get only 1 token, if you win, get you points and >1 token. 2 Souls put head to head to see who is the better.

What, you've never been an army of one going against an army of one surrounded by about 100 other armies of one?

It's more like a "duel" not a war, but the phase means fighting and emotion, not just warring and courtship

And of COURSE blocks 1/4 your eight should block you!! they're charged with Guthixian energy!!! This is what happens to every stone when you use "monster examine" on it:

[hide=Clicky to see what happens]38210k3clh4chsrlmj6.jpg[/hide]

And this is what tanking in the center gets you:

[hide=Waht it getz u!!11]pic12047688966944cg9.jpg[/hide]

I had void mage on. A lvl 135 in full armadyl comes at me. He has hunted first and begins tanking. He gets 800 charges. I run and hide and do "the dip" every so often. He completely owns me with 99 range and rune knives. I have 1600 charges at the end.

^^^If you want, read the above picture again to understand why I like other people to tank while I will hide, run, and house hug.

House hugging is fantastic. It's like 007'ing your enemy, slipping out of their grasp.

I've got decent stats for f2p - lvl 89, with 89 str, 60 prayer, makes my acct perfect for FoG. I like to just barely scrape by a win every time. I pay attention to the high lvls in the waiting room, and anyone who is lvl 70 or higher, I will not meet them directly in the center, but rather give a run around or two.

Eventually though, I will end up in the center, and stay there.

What I don't like is when I go directly to the center, and the person hits me, and after I die, they ask how many charges I have. I'm always honest with them, and sometimes they forfeit, rather than taking the loss. I feel like I just lost a couple tokens, and some xp, because some idiot can't take a loss. :?

One time when, I was in the center against a lvl 8. The lvl 8 started to b**** and moan about how unfair the fight was, when I had telied directly to the center, and hadn't used any food or prayer. I told him - it could be alot worse, and I flashed my protect from mage for a second, and used a bandage. He promptly left the arena. :x

Another thing I don't like is when I'm trying to train my lvl 34, and I specifically don't run away form the person. I tell them, please, just go to the center, so I can get some mage xp. I hand them the win, and they still run and hide. :wall:

I know that this is a little counter to the original post, or points in here, but if I'm nice enough to meet you in the center, and ask for a little of that in return - decency. My lvl 34 wouldn't have a rating of over 2k if I wasn't good enough at hiding and dodging.

If I didn't want you to find my character in FoG, you wouldn't.

Well, I'm guilty. The ones I really don't like, however, are the ones who tell me to let him kill me first, and say they'll hand me the game AFTER... sure.

I just got around 500 tokens, and I won 99% of all the games I played. Mainly because...

Thank you god, someone else has realised that FoG is not

a) Duel arena

B) free mage xp

Lol it is funny as hell when you beat lvl 100+s on a lvl 45 account because they cant accept tanking in the centre isnt a strategy but a death wish,

I've had people beg me to come to the center and call me noob when I ran and hid. If you want your mage xp, come and get me! But I disagree on the free mage xp part. For me, it is free mage xp, because regardless of where you go or whether or not you beat me, I will find you and I will Earth blast you to bits til I level up enough to use fire blast. That's unless you forfeit after giving up trying to find me. Then it's no fun.

I also have no trouble winning against higher levels, as I, too, can hide forever if I want to.

Current challenge: win with absolutely nothing on 'cept for a staff and a cape.

"People are idiots. Some just like to say they reported you to see your reaction, others are just spastic losers that believe everything is reportable, and others got banned and end up reporting everyone because they are mentally disturbed"

OH MY GOD! :!: !!

someone but me that KNOWS runing is not nooby! *faints*, it must be the end of the world *faints agin*

my (at least) 90% win rate is purely from runing and hideing.

. the soul point if fog is to be skillfull. honestly anyone with an iQ over 1 knows that being skillfull is the way to go

if only all the "noobs that name others becouse thay are bad" left, but than agin only about 5 peple would be left -.-

fog is such an awsome game, if only the word (and all its unlimetid copys) noob just stoped being used.

as that say, run and win, hide for pride.

p.s. awsome thred.

Topic's a bit old, but I just have to add, ALWAYS run, and ALWAYS go to the center after 30 seconds. Once they know you're a runner, they never look for you there, and you get faster charges/run energy there.

One guy got Angry with me because I beat him by like 50 Points and I mostly got them from running and hiding. He was like a lv 100 (I am a lv 90) and then he got Pissed started calling me a "Dirt Skin little Beaner" He managed to bypass the Filter <.<

Wongton is better than me in anyway~~

i run

i hide

i use houses

i run around rocks

i DONT stand in the middle and wait unless the other person is lvl 3

then again, im a sore loser, and i LOVE those tokens

I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"

walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

Also, nice tactic when hunting a runner, stand in the middle every once in a while, in case he shows his face, or just to get energy. They don't get charges on the outside anyway. I usualy get 3k charges per game running, and comming to center right before they find me.

MOST IMPORTANT: Keep them out of the center. That there's where the charges are.

When I saw the title of your post i thought you would be another flamer,so i geared up to defend the art of running  but to my complete amazement this is a post that was pro-running. And by god I have to agree with you, the whole point of FOG is to hunt and Be hunted and im pretty sure just standing still and taking punishment isnt hunting, its just plain stupid!

Yep.

It's called 'fist of guthix' not 'stand in the middle and see who has a higher combat level'. I played it all the time when I was f2p, was flamed pretty much every game I won. I hugged the teleports and rocks, ran, teleported, prayed, hid, even against people with a lower combat (never know who's a pure). The flames just made me laugh and do it again.

Exactly what i am thinking, i'll run whenever i can except when i dont have a chance or my opponent is at least 30 lvl's under me.

Also the whole point of fog is not to have to drag barrows around, its to be as deadly as possible and as light as possible at the same time. You see a smart meleer's wearing mage robes and a rune scimmy so you cant just run circles around them..
