July 22, 201115 yr I'm wondering, when is America going to start using Celsius like the rest of us? I cannot for the life of me imagine what 85F is. As a Chemical Engineering student, I have a deep-seated dislike of archaic measurement scales. Heh, one of the physical chemistry profs I had last semester was (I imagine he still is) French, on his slides every non-SI unit was followed by "only used by primitives." I thought that was funny.

July 22, 201115 yr The US uses fahrenheit because we never converted when the international standard was developed. We (read: our president) decided a policy of dual labeling would be sufficient. So, for a while, everything was labeled in the old system and in the SI system. Then we gave up on even that for the most part, though you still see "dual" labeling on car speedometers, pop bottles, etc., though even those are in small print. A few days ago on /mu/ a mod posted a sticky on some Japanese musician that died and everyone gave him a bunch of crap for it (unfortunate, but to be expected from the kind of people there). He then went on a rampage and banned every single person posting in a music-related thread and deleted all of them, only leaving up troll/spam threads. Luckily he's gone now. Tumblr. Follow me!

July 22, 201115 yr Today looks to be as boring as yesterday, with a job that involves dumping a single 55lb pail of peach chunks every 24-27 minutes... And I will probably be 1 of 2 people there again. At least it's Friday, though.
July 22, 201115 yr Went up to the city centre today to buy some stuff for University. I should be getting some new boots as well by next week hopefully :) (because I'm going to be doing a lot of walking when I'm in University). Also, I got a letter from my school telling my I have been nominated for an award, didn't tell me what the award was for but it's pretty good to be nominated for something. :D Looking on my calendar I found that it my A level results day is in 4 weeks time, scary times are ahead :(
