August 15, 200817 yr Some people may think of God as a man who sits in heaven and manipulates the lives of others and when they will die, some people may think of God as simply the force that exists within all aspects of life and nature, and some may believe that there is no God. Who is God to you? Also these quotes may help give ideas as to what your insight truely is: The first idea about God comes from Mildred, a Unitarian Universalist woman. When we asked her what she thought God was like, this is what she said: "Most of the time I'm not really sure but every once in a while when I am in my garden, I have I feeling that I do know what God is. When I'm down on my knees digging in the earth, and putting tiny seeds into the ground and when I'm closing the earth over those seeds knowing that they will grow into beautiful plants, I feel so amazed that something like that can happen. I just can't imagine what it is that makes those plants grow that way and I think that must be what God is." The second idea comes from Donald, a Unitatarian Universalist man, When we asked him what he thought, this is what he said: "Well, it might be easier to tell you what I don't think God is. I don't think God is a man with a long beard, sitting up on a cloud who tells us what it should do and not do. But if I have to say what I think God is, well, let's see, how can I put it? I think God is like the fiery yellow-orange-red power that comes out of the big explosion they call the Big Bang that happened at the beginning of the world. I think that power traveled out into space and slowly over the years became all the things in the universe, even you and me. It is in everything, even the things that we think are bad. I guess that's what I think God is." The third idea comes from Ellen, another Unitarian Universalist woman. When we asked her what she thaught here is what she said: "I think God is love. I think of God as being in people's hearts whenever they are caring about other people and trying to help those who need help. If I were to draw a picture of God I would draw a circle of people all holding hands and I would put a picture of a big red heart on each person. And I would put a smile on the face of each one of the people, a smile that showed that they were happy and feeling peaceful. That's my idea of what God is, the love that we have for each other." Quotes came from http://www.uua.org. Credit belongs to them. Personally, I think of God as more of a force. I believe in humanist teachings, such as using common sense and the ideas of Science. I believe that God is simply the force that exists in all aspects of life and nature itself. August 15, 200817 yr some people may think of God as simply the force that exists within all aspects of life and nature That's my version of god too. The personified "God" is just too hard for me to believe in. When I think of "God" I think of the connection between us all and everything around us - everything in the universe.
August 15, 200817 yr personally i have no idea who or what god is.. i just feel like there's something more, i can't believe there was a big bang and poof there's the universe..
August 15, 200817 yr I really like asimovs story about entropy, the last question or something. God ended up being a computer, i found that really believable. Also there is a philosophical concept called the omega point that says that because humanities complexity and humanities conscience is forever increasing thaat there must be an ultimate point that is already existing, i like to think that is what god is and we are the means to that end. But thats just me, i have always had a more eastern beliefs system
August 15, 200817 yr I don't believe in any god but like Zierro, I find a personification conception the least believable. If I were the believing type, I'd probably see god the way Einstein did - god is the natural harmony and order of the universe. Some sort of Pantheism.
August 15, 200817 yr I don't think god is an entity of any kind. I think God was originally something that us as humans made up because at the time we were not advanced enough to explain our world and its creation. An all seeing/knowing/powerful being known as "God" was the simplest way to explain it all, and to some it still is! It's a bit like Heaven, we are the only species on the planet that knows we are one day going to die, and we make up all sorts of theories about the afterlife or heaven as I think it would literally drive us mad thinking about our own death and the prospect of just simply blinking out of existence into nothing. Saying all the above, God to me is love, hate, evil, good and the compassion that can be found in all of us, including animals and inanimate objects. It's much more than personal relationships as I feel it's the whole fabric of the connections we form with everything around us. Call it what you will, God, The Force (yes, that's a good a name for it as anything), it's an interesting subject! [Assist-X]
August 15, 200817 yr God to me doesn't exist, however, I do recognise that many people, myself included, feel that there's something beyond natural courage which inspires us. The amount of stories you hear about religious people who were on the verge of death, yet they gathered some fighting spirit from their faith in God and made a full recovery, is not something you can ignore. I'd like to think there's a God, or someone I could turn to for that sort of inspiration, but the truth is there's no evidence to suggest such a force exists, and there's equally as many people who have done stupid things in the name of God. In that context, God is a man-made creation, not the other way round. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
August 15, 200817 yr God is the being that people call to in their time of need when they can call to no one else. God is the being that people talk to so that they can feel as though they are making an impact when in fact they are doing nothing. God is the being that people create in their minds because they need someone to blame when things go wrong. God and "his purpose" are the bringers of hope and security for those who are going through difficult situations. Cool.
August 15, 200817 yr To be honest, I always thought God was a guy with a moustache sitting in heaven watching us all and somehow knowing every single one of us. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever think that God could possibly be "man-made", thats a pretty strong statement. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down!

August 15, 200817 yr Who is God to us?Basically who created the world, right?*microscope*. I'm quite a free-thinker-I believe in a higher power, but not religion,so I'm not too sure what to expect...If there was a God,I'd say he'd be dressed in ceremonial war garb, with a blackish beard. At least looks young. Then Saint Peter would be the old one.Erm,the one who decides if you go to heaven or hell =P so i herd u liek devarts? If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".[hide=This's why I'm hot]The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".Amen, brother :lol:Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)amen Bruder! (german ftw)I'm invulnerable to everything, except Lenin and Dragoonson. That's impossible. I love people.[/hide]
August 15, 200817 yr I am God. Everyone is God. I believe in myself. I believe in my life. I believe in my freedom to do anything, to do my best to change anything. I believe that if something goes wrong ultimately I should rely on myself to fix it. I believe that I control my own destiny. I believe that I decide what is important in my life. I believe that I am responsible to myself. It's an empowering belief, because it believes in the potential of humans. For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns. The time when the living and the dead exist as one.
August 15, 200817 yr I believe in extreme realism. Thus, I try to see the world objectively for what it is without superstition or unprovable beliefs. Almost everything in the world revolves around money. A lot of people spend 8+ hours a day doing things they don't want to do.. Just to get money. People kill each other, stab each other, betray, break alliances, destroy families, steal, lie, cheat, form gangs, attack other nations, marry falsely, sell their body, sell their integrity, because of money. In that aspect I hate money, but it seems to be almost a God in the modern world. It controls everything that exists and that is allowed to exist. If a thing or project runs out of money to maintain it, it ceases to exist. Ultimately, people are only motivated to do anything besides being brutal animals, by money.
August 15, 200817 yr I'm a Catholic. So of course I believe in God, and all the stuff about him creating the world and made us in His image. There was an old question that some people would ask, particularly nonbelievers asking believers. Could God create a rock he could not move? My pastor was talking about this in one of his homilies, and he quotes a 3 year old girl who got in trouble for responding to the question. She said that God can create a rock he could not move, and he did; He created the human spirit. By creating us with free will (I know some of you don't believe in free will, this is jsust my belief) he made himself weak, for he couldn't control our will, he could only advise us to go to the right direction. I don't plan on preaching to you guys because not all of you share my belief, so I'll end with this little quote, the most famous in the Bible (John 3:16 I believe): "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. I own. http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun.
August 15, 200817 yr God to me is the source of all the universe's laws and natures, how they interact, and ultimately how they create the beauty that is the world we live in. God is atoms, God is light, God is 1, God is energy, God is me. ~ W ~
August 15, 200817 yr I consider myself a rather spiritual person, but I do not believe in the concept of God. As much as I feel there is a force that unifies everything in the universe, I dare not associate it with the term "God." To the West, "God" implies a supreme being that not only has high cognitive ability, but also the ability to affect those in the physical world. This unifying force that I believe in has no more control or cognitive ability than a man-made electrical generator. And so, prayer and worship would be futile. :-)
August 15, 200817 yr What i don't get is that most people perceive this "God" as a human being. WHAT? I don't know about this forum, but most people i know think of "God" as a man. Erm. Who told them "God" was a man like figure? He could be a dog, or a cat. Not trying to slam religions here though. I don't really believe there is a god or whatever crap.
August 15, 200817 yr I believe god is our conscience. Our conscience tells us what is right and wrong, and whether you follow that is your choice. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
Well I'm with you on not believing in the conventional sense of god, but when humans were created, according to christian beliefs, they were created in "his likeness". So that kinda throws out your theory on what he is supposed to look like. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
August 15, 200817 yr Yes, I like the idea that God is a force all around us. I also like to think He takes on a personified ... persona. And that persona is in the shape of Morgan Freeman  catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
August 15, 200817 yr Spahgeteeeh monstar, that being said. God (imo) created us to keep him interested and away from the alchahol cabnet, like a age of empiers game, that never ends. -.-
August 15, 200817 yr Wow, we got a lot of interesting ideas on here already. I really liked Dusqi's and Bluelancer's ideas. :P
August 15, 200817 yr God is not an object, really...its all the good and wonderful things in the world. Someone who has "gone down the dark path" (full of revenege, hate, etc) has lost connection with the light for he is not enjoying himself as he should be. Enjoying ourselves, having fun, is what God gives us. Even the tiniest of enjoyments are gifts of God that we should all cherish. The music you listen to, the nice gentleman who opened a door for you, your hobbies, your friends, your family, everything good and happy. But it is up to you how to manage that fun so it lasts the most possible throughout your entire life. So you don't have 5 years of hardcore entertainment and 25 years of misery and hardwork; but rather 30 years of a balanced life. Work, to enjoy yourselves. Having a house, having food...wheither you notice them or not, they are good and vital to us. And thus, good from God. If I had one song to discribe God, it would be "I Feel Good!". "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
August 15, 200817 yr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8evsSNdXcs God as described by George Carlin. That about sums it up. ~First 2.5 minutes or so. Uhm, probably as nothing. As in, doesn't exist. Nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada. There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.
August 15, 200817 yr I think god is the big magical wizard in the clouds that tells christians that "Thou are better than all others beceause thou believes in me." Atleast that's what it seems like.
