And when you say that he voted with the President 90% of the time it's not as big as a deal as most would think. This is because they don't vote on seperate issues, they vote on Bills that have like 5 things in each, so if they want 3 out of the 5 things they will still vote for the bill even though they don't agree with the other 2 things.

Wow I'd love to see McCain actually try to use that argument, lol.

Firstly, you're assuming McCain and Bush would've differed on 2 of every 5 (or any minority) issues per bill. With McCain backing Bush 9 out of every 10 votes, you can be quite sure that's it's not just a coincidence that they voted so closely.

Secondly, not only would he immediately be laughed at, it could then be said that anyone's past voting record doesn't mean much of anything.

"Oh I only voted for the bailout bill because it would give wooden arrows a tax exemption"

Republicans couldn't claim Obama is a radical liberal anymore because he could use the same excuse you're trying and say he only agreed with 51% of the bills he voted for.

Well, here's the thing, Bush and McCain are both Republican, So, naturally, they would agree on some or most stuff right? But, that doesn't mean they have the exact same policies.

being under aged and a long way away from the US i have no power over the electon but it has still gotten people here interested and its rather disterbing what people would look to vote on.

everybody just want Obama so they can tick off black president of a imagnary tick list almost. the guy speaks well but nobody could tell me much about what he wants to do just he sounds good doing it. McCain is perseved as old which seems to be holding a disadvantage compared Obama who seems to get black voters just because hes black.

This is just a tiny sample of people who are ingnorant of politics but is this represented in the american community?

I think the statistic 9/10 is misleading from what i can gather. As a vote over to invade iraq will count the same weight as minor issue. What McCain means by they are different is that on the big issues like say energy and forgein policey they are different. This also doesn't mean mean that on everything in those issues they disagree.

How can you have an IQ of 146 and not realise many people will NOT vote for Obama because he's black?

...and he can't spell larger...*looks suspiciously to my sig quote*...hmmm...

edit - I added the word quote, no spell mistakes.

I guess disagreeing with your party 10% of the time is the prerequisite for calling yourself a maverick now *shrugs*

And I never said they have the exact same policies. 90% is 90%, not 100%, not 50%.

edit: and i'm quite enjoying the SNL tonight; the opening skit was one of the best i've seen in awhile, and i was surprised how well Affleck pulled off the olbermann impersonation.

OT: all the SNLS I've seen lately is crap, the Palin one (old now) was funny though.

2) MOST of the stuff, is what I said. But, I mean, he isn't really a maverick but more so than Obama.

@Magekllr on page 35: Yes, Lincoln saved the country, cool, I still don't like him. Just liek Jefferson was a great intelligent person, he's my most hated President of all time. I could go into so much detail why I hate him. But remember, it's opinion, you could think Bush was the greatest president of all time, I wouldn't agree, but that's your opinion.

No, lol.

I'm not really sure, actually. Let me think about it.

EDIT: 1) I think that IF Henry Clay was ever mde President, he would have made a great one. Even though I imagine nowaways he'd be like Obama, with the American System, and wanted everyong to pay higher taxes to make a national highway system. Not really nationalizing, but kinda sorta if you know what I mean.

But actually presidents:

Eh, now that I think about it, I don't really have one.

Don't hate on Lincoln or Jefferson. And how can you not have a favorite? It's got to be George Washington. He's like Babe Ruth in the Sandlot. 'More than a man, Less than a god'. You can't beat him.

Anyway, I am bracing myself for Tuesday and President-elect Obama. I'm more concerned about congress than the President now. Nancy Pelosi. :ohnoes: Really though, I ready to give Obama the benefit of the doubt on everything but Iraq. That is just too important. I don't really care too much if he raises peoples taxes or whatever but Iraq is the only thing I can't give him a pass on. Maybe energy too but not as much.

McCain and Obama's actions on Iraq would be nearly the exact same, something that neither cares to admit.

Yeah, McCain's is just spelled out because it actually scores him points in his party. Obama's is hidden behind words. They're both pulling out, but slowly enough that they can send troops back if Iraq destabilizes.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Magekillr, physically he saved it, but socially... Not so much.

And I mean, my least hated president I guess you could say would most likely be... LBJ - Despite that he was arrogant, I think the Great Society was good (and yes, I know that is vaguely in some way resembles Obama.)

Wilson - Just good overall.

Taft - Trust Busta!

TR - ok, but the Roosevelt Auxilliary really put me off, it's like the War in Iraq, but unneccesary.

MOST HATED:

JEFFERSON! Why you ask? Let me tell you why:

[hide=WHY]EMBARGO OF 1807 AKA

Non-Intercourse Act

God! What was Jefferson thinking? Cutting off all trade? You [wagon]! The country started to fail and it was because of you!!!![/hide]

Second most hated:

Millard Fillmore\ Andrew Johnson

Reason: Really, they didn't do anything, even Hoover was better than them.

And yes, I know my most hated pres. are extrememly opinionated.

So... it's November 3rd, and Election Day is tomorrow. Any honest idea who might win at this point? Obama has the electoral votes, the question is whether McCain will get enough or not.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

Well, I'm not talking about the Louisiana Purchase, but mainly the Embargo, I think it brought down his whole career, despite the good things he did. KInd of like, how no matter how good Bush did, people will only remember him for the Iraqi War.

Scared of losing Indiana and Georgia, GOP?

First, voter suppression in Indiana:

Indianapolis - The Indiana Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments next week in a dispute over early voting sites in Lake County.

The court agreed to a Republican request to expedite the case hours after the state Supreme Court rejected it today.

Arguments will be heard Thursday in Indianapolis.

That surprise move came after the high court sided with Democrats and union members against Republicans seeking to close early voting sites in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago.

In a 3-2 vote, the court said voting centers in the three largely Democratic Lake County cities should remain open and that closing them could jeopardize residents' right to vote.

Republicans say the voting centers increase the risk of voter fraud. Some Democrats have questioned whether Republicans were trying to suppress votes by minorities likely to favor Barack Obama.

Opening voting centers doesn't risk voter fraud, and they know it.

And here's a beauty of a quote from Georgian Senator, Saxby Chambliss:

The other folks are voting.
