Are you a cat or a dog person?

Dogs, cats aren't as playful

Cats are some of the most playful animals on the planet...they love to chase and play with things, not all cats sit there and are lazy you know, thats a stereotype. Both my cats love to play with me. :P

Can I has both? :twss:

The lolcats talk has betrayed you, cat person!

But srsly, whoever made the stereotype about cats(solitary, antisocial, etc) and cat people never had a cat. Cats are cute, fuzzy and playful. And cat owners are no longer old ladies living alone with 12 cats. ::'

In a nutshell, cat for me (for now anyway), dogs are bothersome they need so much attention. Maybe later that will change, if I'm willing to make the time/effort for a dog.

To the people who have complained about allergies:

Don't lose hope just because you're allergic. You can live perfectly happily with animals despite your allergies.. in fact, I forget the exact statistic, but most people who love animals and have some sort of allergy live with pets anyway. There are many solutions such as: taking simple allergy medication once a day every day (Claritin, Zyrtec, and a few others), rubbing Allergy Relief formulas on your animal's fur once a week, getting allergy shots, or simply cleaning your house more often (leave the windows open to get a good air flow, keep your house clean, vacuum regularly, etc.). The solution that works best for you depends on the animal (how much dander they produce, how often they lick/clean themselves, and sometimes the breed) and the severity of your allergies.

Speaking of allergies, I remember hearing research that suggests people who live with a pet are less likely to develop one.

http://www.nih.gov/news/pr/aug2002/niaid-27.htm

Anyway, I'm a dog person. Never had a cat, though.

Yep I read a similar article a few months ago. Thanks for providing your link - very interesting read :) If you live with animals when you're younger you are less likely to develop them. However, allergies can be strange things... some people never live with animals and never develop allergies, while others can live with their cat for nine years and then suddenly develop them.

Those of you that don't hunt probably prefer cats more easily. Dogs are so much help hunting. And they're so ready to be active and jump around and play. I can never get cats to do more than claw me. Although to be honest, cats are funnier, just because they do stupider things, while acting dignified.

I love it when my cat does something completely ridiculous and then gives me a look that says, "What are you looking at me for? I didn't do anything."

I've had a 2 cats, 2 dogs, a hamster, a guinea pig and a rabbit in my family. Out of these I've definately preferred the first cat, a tabby. After that the rabbit, then the guinea pig, then the hamster, then the dogs.

And a farting, barking at anything moving, afraid of water dog is really lame. :(

It is definitely unfortunate that you have had to base your opinion of dogs off of the dog described above. I can definitely see how that would put you off of dogs.

It is sad/interesting to see the vast amount of stereotypes being displayed in this thread. Cats and dogs are a lot like people: they are all different and unique. There are dogs who help people by aiding them in hunting, dogs who bark at any sign of movement, dogs who sleep 80% of the day, dogs who wouldn't bark if you asked them to, dogs who would dodge in front of a bullet for you, dogs who would whimper under the table at any sign of an intruder, dogs who would play with their owner all day, dogs who would rather be on their own...

then there are cats who are used to chase mice/rats out of barns, cats who seize every opportunity to play with their owner, cats who would rather sleep and clean themselves all day, cats who do not like attention/affection at all and hiss/claw when people get near, cats who follow their owners all around the house and rub up against their leg whenever they can, cats who are terrified of dogs, cats who love dogs and can be found snuggling with them, etc. etc.

Please people.. do NOT buy into stereotypes (of any kind, really). They're almost always untrue generalizations that emphasize the bad qualities of a certain animal.

ya i hate when people stereotype.

i've had literaly over a dozen cats and dogs so far.

my first cat was called luna (her nick name was the lunatic...i can't help but realise the irony) she would literally not let a single person touch her and i remember great times when we would here a scream from another room and find the company standing on a chair with lunar prowling around in front of it <3: this may seem bad but she only did this with people that she didn't know and made probably a better guard animal then a dog... actually held her own in severl fights with dogs to.

then there was the cat i have now is called tony. hes a main coon and i honastly would have no other cat if i could. he goes with me whereever i go in the house. when i sit down he jumps on my lap. when i go to bed he curls up on my tummy or arm and is just a great companion.

then their are the dogs.

one of my first dogs was named bear, he died unfortunatly but i will always remember him. it always seemed as if he made it his lifes work to find ways out of the fence and mock us whenever we found a spot he would get through and fix it. i remember one time when me and my dad were putting up new wire over an area where he'd been squeezeing through the fence. he was watching us the whole time and as we finsihed i could swear that he was lauphing. he just took a few steps back and i could see my dad getting ready to leave. thats when he started to actually run at the fence. i was thinking that he was going to jump over it but instead he literally ran through! the fence. oh i will never forget the look on my dads face.

i've got two new dogs now. ones name is teddy and he's the local bully... hes a pomeranian... and always picks fights with the rotwhilers next door. but he sometimes litterally wets himself when he meets a new person.

thats just a few of the pets i've had over the years. each is different and thats while i'll never forget any of them.

[spoiler=click you know you wanna]
Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

Neither. I dont really like either that much.

WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME

#1 Wongtong stalker.

Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!

Both animals are ok. In a lot of poor countries only dogs are considered as domestic animals; People don't keep cats because of the small utility value. Dogs on the other hand can be used for almost anything including physical labour, hunting aid etc.

In western countries and in larger houses though, cats too can be both entertaining and useful: They catch rats and lizards very effectively, keeping vermin out of the sight.

As a strictly personal opinion, I've always percieved cats to be more passive-aggressive compared to dogs. If a cat just wants to be alone and you kindly scratch it's back, it may just suddenly lash at you after 10 seconds & no warning, or even attack. Dogs can do that too but from personal experience, less so..

Probably a cat person.

Dogs generally try to hump my leg/claw up my skirt.

Cats kinda hurt when they use their claws on me, plus they're really snobby - but they're soooo cute.. (plus I'm asian so I love cute things -.-)

But my pets (especially cats) always die in less than a year.

The longest I've had a pet for is about 9 months, and I've had about 10 pets.

Since I should be studying, I'll repost what I said earlier in the thread:

I like both, but I prefer dogs. When I get my own place, I will definitely be getting a dog. Whenever I get my own yard that's a reasonable size, I'll get a goat too.

Maybe a couple chickens as well.

Dog person. I just prefer them over cats.

That's why you're on the TZDF blackdawn. Even your balls can tear zombies to shreds.

Throw in a pig while you're at it. Hell, let's bring a cow!

Cats because they basically look after themselves. Dogs are too tiring.

Hello friend, Senajitkaushik was epic, Good luck bro.

Cats, definitely. There must be around 10 living at our place at the moment.

FBqTDdL.jpg

sleep like dead men

wake up like dead men

I like to rub dogs' bellies and scratch cats' chins!! \'

Cats, definitely. There must be around 10 living at our place at the moment.

Same here. Our cats vary from the don't-get-near-me type (the run away if they see anyone getting closer, and are generally agressive) from the ones who you can stroke as much as you want.

Our older cat is the best. She loves to do anything she knows it's wrong, like getting into people's houses, or our own (as they all live in the yard outside) and stealing food or any object she likes. Then if you catch her and shout at her, or even slap her a bit, she simply sits there looking all innocent and hurt #-o. You can't punish her on any way possible, she's like "I know I shouldn't do this but I don't care at all, and I'll do it again". There's no way to make her obey any rules. Also, since she's also one of the sharper cats I have ever meet, she learns how to do things the other ones don't even think about trying, like opening closed windows from the outside . I really want to know how she manages to do that. You hear her struggling with the window and next thing you know, she's standing on your bed with a proud face.

We also own a dog, but now she's old (like 15) and she's never been the nicer of the family, barks and growls at anything or anyone and doesn't generally like people. Maybe that's why I'm a cats person, although I don't mind playful/friendly dogs, just mine isn't like that.

I'm a cat person, and proud of it. I don't feel I have to justify myself, it's just that I was raised with a pair of cats and still have a pair of cats.

And train the pig to search for dead bodies! Not that there are corpses on my land...

I usually prefer dogs because of their obedience and companionship. I walk and hike around a lot, so I'd rather have a pet that will follow along.

You know like you have crazy catladies living on your street? We had a catman

You could smell the rancid stench of cat's piss a few houses away bleurgh. He had LOADS of cats and one of my friend's cat left their house to go live with him haha. He had about 20 cat bowls by his front door step and his yard was filled with random junk like a scrapyard. I heard a bit of ol' gossip that he was documented on the discovery channel once and that he had dead kittens in his garage. He was a nice bloke though, three of us used to go to his house everyday, at the age of 13, unattended by adults...

I love both! Why limit yourself to just loving one kind of amazing animal? <3:

I like both of them. Whilst growing up my family had a couple of dogs. But as I have grown older we now have 3 cats. They are less needy, but nothing better than a big dog to keep you company. Our cats just whine all the time, and randomly attack me for no reason *examines the many scratches/scars on his arms*. <.<
