ghosts

Many of us know that a while ago runescape was changed forever with the RWT update. I was one of the many who was frusterated about this, but thats not the point of this article. While I was doing a slayer assingment today I was chased out of my area by a ghost. I was extremely mad when it would first hit me with magic, then archery then walk up and mele me. I thought to myself "not even a pker of 5 years with so much pking experience could transition that fast. Its like the ghosts are wearing mystic-rune-skin armor and attacking with a crossbow that shoots magical dragon daggers, thats just not right! And so I later went back into the wilderness to settle the score. After a long fight I managed to kill one and to reward me for my efforts I received a steel kitesheild and 3k, I lost money of food. All in all I want this discussion to be about weither of not their drops should be increased. I myself think this would be a good thing because back when the wilderness was a mosh-pit a player like that would be carrying well more then 3.5k worth of equipment.

Jennica's Ring is supposed to help drops.

Don't worry, I'm almost 100% sure that there will be no revs in the pk-anywhere worlds.

Reverents can be a pain, but you can run away from them. Just curious, do they still have teleblocking ability?

Yes: but the tb only only lasts for 30 seconds..

Well they're just a joke: be prepared en engage them within melee range: if you're that close they won't use their ranged attack.. (well they use a different 1: a ranged attack that only freezes but doesn't hit).

Their magic attack hardly ever hits through black dragonhide, and they don't use their melee attack very often...

I personally always do my slayer tasks in wilderness: without any food and just relying on guthans I can survive greater demon/firegiant tasks very easily there.. If a revenant shows up I quickly look if it's an orc or lower if it is I'll heal myself on the current demon and engage the revenant.. If it's a knight or dragon I just hop worlds...

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

They lack the mind of a human, they are simply programs. You can spend 10 years trying to write the code for the human mind and its stategies and still get only a fraction-way there. They basically have no strategy. A simple mage/range - melee combo is quite easy to pull off with no experience. Is it so hard to freeze someone, range them from afar, and run up to them and unleash some melee attacks?

I very much enjoy revenants over pkers. Pkers held a variety of strategies and weapons that had been perfected over years of experience. A barrage followed up by powerful dds specials would certainly prove a challenge to a treasure trailer or boss hunter alike. What do revenants have? Well, only powerful hits. Yes a revenant can freeze, but it is only programmed to preform a set number of attacks after that. Can they think "Oh, that person is heading toward the ardy teleport, I need to focus all my efforts on freezing him before he gets away!" or "He's heading into a multi-combat zone, I better watch out for any friends he may have." or "He's heading toward level 20 wilderness so he can teleport, I should try to teleblock him."?

By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .

True but once you have established a spot, say the fire giants lair, you are more or less safe from getting pk-ed, but the revenents are capable of crashing the party in a metter of seconds.

They are more used as a threat in the wilderness than to be killed. I don't really think their drops should increase.

I agree. Otherwise, training in the wilderness monsters would be too easy.

They lack A.I, which is something that is worth a lot more in terms of drops.

It's easy to kill one, and if they dropped even something like 100k worth of stuff each, it would be so easy to get money the economy would suffer badly.

Revs can be a pain sometimes, but so were pkers. They serve to keep the anxiety of having pkers sneek up on you, makes being in the Wilderness more exciting! :)

They're not hard to kill, unless you're like level 30 and hanging out in lvl 45 Wilderness fighting the high-leveled Revs. :?

Though they're over-powered in F2P, not even players can hit as high as Revenants can in freeplay. Teleblock was a members only spell, so why can Revs use it in F2P? I won't write a whole page about this, I think everyone knows the rest.

yea revs are a pain. not worth killing, just making it so people dont loiter around in wildy or make it harder for rune hunters to mine their rocks or star hunters to mine (ive been there, got attack by 3 revs with monstermas22, but it was fun, and we lived).

Thanks for the quote, lol.

They really aren't meant to be hunted, they're supposed (key word) to be a replacement for PK'ers, but yeah, they're much more powerful and skilled than PK'ers ever would be.

Explain the drop improving bonuses of Jennica's ring then, if they aren't meant to be hunted? They are more powerful, but less skillful than PKers, and skill > power for the vast majority of cases.

I think that Jagex needs to make some more complex AI for these revenants. For example, they shouldn't attack someone wearing dragonhide using magic. They should be able to move as fast as a player. They should try to teleblock someone running south. They should be able to call other nearby revanants to help if they receive more than 50% damage. They should use protection prayers. They should sometimes form teams of around 30. Teleblocks and freezing spells should last just as long as the human equivalent. Stuff that's complex but not outside the limitations of the game.

but even if your in combat with another monster, say green dragons which is not a multi-combat zone thay have the power to interrupt combat, something pkers never had the power to do

True, I think Jagex is trying to make up for decent AI in this case, but now we're starting to lose the whole 'Revanants are supposed to replace PKers' idea. People attack monsters in single combat to do this and they should have every right to do it now.

Bah humbug.

If the ring really works the way it should, by increasing drops when you wear it. Then I presume that it is a test for the Pk worlds. You know with the impressiveness of the kill factor and all that.

Anyway, maybe revenants drop good stuff with jennica's ring. But I don't think anyone has been actively hunting them since there hasn't been reports of reasonable drops.

What annoys me is that they attack people in the Wilderness Agility Course. I never knew of ANY PK'er who would do the same. Plus, they can do the obstacles. Though I can beat them, they're a drain on my resources. And at that depth of Wilderness, the Knights and Dragons can attack...

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

if you're on lunar you could be back there in seconds. i always tell people to use everything to your advantage. i think they should improve rev drops though, at least give them some good drops, extremely rare but there nonetheless, to make it more interesting and worthwhile.
