Dragonlordjl
Okay, I am sick of so much BS that is spread about the CB, so I am going to debunk many of the rumors: 1) Prayer doesn't work. 1a) This is false. Protect from Magic sigificantly reduces the damage inflicted by his Claw attack, and it reduces the maximum hit of his Magic attack by about 10. He can still hit up to around 54 through Protect from Magic, but it's much less frequent and at any rate, a 54 is much better than a 65. Of all the people I have seen KOed by the CB, the vast majority were not using Protect from Magic. 2) Defense doesn't matter. 2a) Magic Defense makes a world of difference. I wear an Armadyl Plate, Skirt, Fury, Spectral SS, and some other garbage and am rarely hit for over 45 damage... Also, 3/4 of the time his Claw splash damage hits 0s on me. When I melee in Full Proslyte, I get hit heavily by his Claw attack and even moreso by his Magic attack, which normally averages about 45. I'd say it's fairly conclusive that MAGIC DEFENSE helps against it. 3) You cannot get your items if you die. 3a) Wrong. You have 60 seconds to retrieve your items, which is entirely doable if you are prepared. Spawn in Camelot, run to Seers, make sure your Games Necklace and T-bird/Scrolls are in the same tab... Teleport to CLAN WARS, as it's a much shorter distance to the Cave than from BH... If all goes well and you do not lag/moonwalk, you should make it back within about 45-50 seconds. 4) A team of rangers pwns it! 4a) Wrong. A team of only rangers will not do jack **** once it gets down to ~250 HP. Of all defenses, the CB seems to have the highest ranged defense. Diamond Bolts barely do jack crap to it even with Eagle Eye, 91 ranged and Pot. It takes a team of 10 level 85+ rangers about 10 minutes to take down the last 10% of its lifebar. Make sure at least a quarter of your team has melee. 5) What is the rarity of the Sigils? 5a) From all the research I've done, it seems like the Spectral and Arcane are approximately equally rare, but the Elysian is much rarer and the Divine Sigil is the rarest. I would estimate that the Spectral/Arcane drop rate is about 1/300, the Elysian is about 1/500, and I have no ****ing idea what the drop rate of the Divine is. For half the month this thing has been out and I have yet to see a Divine Sigil drop posted on any major fansite, nor have I seen anybody selling the shield/sigil on the RSOF. Winner5555
Nice, just one question Does the CB heal when it eats a familiar? First people were saying it did, then didn't, than did again. When I brought a familiar with me, whenever it got eaten, it seemed like the CB went up in hp a bit, but not dramatically, and it might've been from the cores For what it's worth, i got 165 CB kills in the first week, didn't have anyone get any sigils, and there was only 1 elixir 621st person to achieve 99 slayer on December 3rd, 2007177th person to 99 summoning on June 21st, 2008

jettrider
I'm going to have to slightly disagree on some of these. The attack that hits up to 54 is melee. Magic attack maxes in the low 40s with prayer on. Not *all* of his attacks are magic-based. I could've sworn that it was longer than 60 seconds. I may be wrong though (and I probably am). Range isn't entirely useless. In non-lootshare mass killings, range is a surefire way to get kills (but only with ruby bolt specials). There is also a pretty good hybrid method that incorporates both melee and range. It's much smarter than having a team full of meleers with a few rangers; if range is faster, why can't everyone range until low health? And if meleeing is faster/about the same, why have rangers at all? 5) What is the rarity of the Sigils? 5a) From all the research I've done, it seems like the Spectral and Arcane are approximately equally rare, but the Elysian is much rarer and the Divine Sigil is the rarest. I would estimate that the Spectral/Arcane drop rate is about 1/300, the Elysian is about 1/500, and I have no idea what the drop rate of the Divine is. For half the month this thing has been out and I have yet to see a Divine Sigil drop posted on any major fansite, nor have I seen anybody selling the shield/sigil on the RSOF. I believe those drop rates are a bit high. The beast takes quite a long time to kill and overestimating is easy. I believe the drop rates to be somewhere in these ranges: Spirit shields: 1 in 75 Holy Elixir: 1 in 150-250 Sigils: 1 in 200-350 Of course, this is speculation, but I believe that the sigils have the same drop rates. Since there still aren't many sigil drops of any type, it's easy to say that some are rarer than others. 2496 Completionist
Dragonlordjl
Um.. It just seems odd that I've seen several pictures of Spectral/Arcane drops but only ever two Elysian drops and NO Divine drops... That hints of varying rarity. Also, I'd like to figure out if familiars heal it... I don't think they do, but I'm not sure. And I didn't say ranged was useless: Ruby Bolts are the most efficient way to kill it, up until the last 200-300 hp... After which ranged becomes really ineffective against it. mario_sunny
Everything is right except the last one. I hear all types of sigils being dropped daily. Some teams recieve 2 a day. I doubt the drop rate is more than 1/1000 for any sigil. That would just be ridiculous. I've already wasted 2-3M on supplies for 120 kills, I don't really think jagex would make a creature that is unprofitable in the long run. According to the 1/1000 rate, you would actually be losing around 15M every sigil drop. Jagex set the base prices of all the sigils, and I trust they did their calculations and made sure people profited after x number of kills. And you may want to add: Some people are actually figuring out not bringing some expensive supplies is more cheaper, even with the increased risk of death (because on death, you would lose less). I've always used the recommended supplies (3 sara brews, 1 sup restore, 2 pray pots, 1 range pot, sharks). But now some people are substituing sharks for monks and replacing sara brews with more monkfish. You see about a quarter to half of people in teams not using prayer at all (pray pots are quite expensive). I've noticed the majority of my losses come from supplies, not equipment, when I die. Infact, the most expensive equipment I lose are my snakeskin boots upon death. I will be further investigating this and doing some tests/calculations. Also note it appears the more experienced players tend to do this (those who are quicker at dodging attacks). By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( . Blutters
It's good to see a thread with backbone. Just two things- I haven't done some sort of extensive drop research, but I know someone posted a large amount of kills on the Corporeal Beast thread that made it look like sigils are actually relatively common. Also, could you post a picture of your shiny shield? Off-topic I know, but I haven't seen it worn. I'm going to have to slightly disagree on some of these. Since there still aren't many sigil drops of any type, it's easy to say that some are rarer than others. jettrider's estimates closely resemble those that I read that I just mentioned. The Observer
The reason why people are saying Prayer doesn't work is because normally Prayer protects you completely, and it doesn't this time. It's more of a slight hyperbole than anything.

Soma2035
1) Prayer doesn't work. I'd definitely contest this fact. I'm not entirely sure which attack you're referring to, but I literally put on protect from magic, and let him hit me, step out, heal, repeat for a few minutes. His [bleep]y blast-like attack hit a 58. That maxes at 60+ so I feel safe saying protect magic didn't affect that at all. His roundish "strike" looking attack hit a 47. Not sure what that maxes at, but I still feel safe saying protect magic didn't alter it much. However it took 4 hits before he actually hit a 47 with this. Claw - I thought prayer worked for a bit. The first 2 claws hit very little on me. Then the third claw hit a 38-18-14. It might have landed one more hit, I don't know, I was jumping out and eating the moment I saw the 38. Those are his 3 attacks asides from his melee attack that I have recognized, and none of them seem affected at all by Protect from Magic. However, his melee attack is blocked by protect from melee. That I can also confirm, as well as two others. Magic may reduce the accuracy of certain attacks. But it certainly doesn't change their max hits by a noticeable amount. Want to learn to Nex? matrix2613
I dunno if this has been done/said before, but would using Curse/other reduction spells help agains it?
