What keeps you coming back?

I knew about Tip.it since I started using the site in 2005 when my friend, Deathskully as he is known as here, told me about it. I also knew about the forums, but I didn't join because I was two years under the minimum age limit of 13. One year later though, I couldn't resist and just joined. I posted mostly in RS bugs and suggestions, (I never have liked General discussion) then one day I discovered Off-Topic hiding there at the bottom of the page. I remember the first time I browsed, I had like 150-200 posts and the topics where something about the middle east from what I remember.

Anyway, I started posting there on and off for a few months, and when I went to California on vacation in July 2007, I started to browse more seriously when I had nothing to do at my grandma's house lol.

Everything up to there sounds EXACTLY the same as me. Other than Deathskully. :?

(Well, fine, I wasn't at my grandma's house in July 07, but I was in Taiwan...)

A certain group of people around here is defnitely the reason for it. I was drawn to Off-Topic because I never liked General Discussion, and when Bugs and Suggestions got old, I decided to check out some of the forums I usually had not interest in. So I found Off-Topic, and have loved it evver since. Now I have branched out to some sub-forums, like VG&C (Most posts has changed from Bugs & Suggestions to VG&C).

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

I stay for the occasional decent topics and discussion, and for some of the users, even though most people probably forgot about me/never heard of me.

Im a no lifer, and I'd rather have a mature conversation with you lot, who are most likely older than me, rather than talk to a dimwit my age who only thinks of boobies.

Hahah, TSO. I remember when Lenin was talking about them, and then I remember when I was obsessed with them (I still am, see what happens when it's Christmas), and I passed them down to meol. Memories. I should probably get a new avatar, though, and hell, I should finally do something with my signature spot.

I keep coming back for a few reasons, I guess. It's definitely a habit and a routine that I've grown accustomed to. I check this place pretty much every day. I don't like to try and imagine a time when I leave this place. The community is great, too. I'm not talking about everyone, but I'm talking about groups of people that just seem to know each other. That's the community I like. I think it's pretty cool that I add users here on XBL and play with them and talk to them. I love the inside jokes I have with some people. It's interesting when a group of people creates their own small forums to try and organize something or just for fun. It's just a nice community.

7 years later and I'm not particulary sure why I'm still around when I haven't played runescape for the last 5 of those 7 years

I guess it's just part of my daily web surfing habits after so long, and there's quite a number of people I like to talk to on here.

  • 2 years later...

I've been lurking about since about late 2004, and I had another account before that. Read the forums regularly, post rarely. Moreso to a change in lifestyle as I've been growing up. I'm currently 19, been here since I was about 12/13 so I've really gone through my teens with TIF - from girlfriends, school, games, cars, work, etc. I'll go through a phase of posting alot where I've got a bit of free time, then I'll skip a while and post up again. As you can see from the low post count, but it's not about that. It's about the community that I've become friends with through TIF - #Darkwebz was an IRC channel where specific TIF users hung out, Mercifull, Necromagus, Phil, Azvareth, ForsakenMage, DarkRick, Rizla, Maddie, Dusqi, Tanya and many others. I can remember staying up all night talking with these people... These people are a constant to me, if I ever have any troubles the first place I will look is TIF because I know this is where I can find them. Unfortunately the channel doesn't run that much anymore, or if it does, there's barely anyone in there. But I guess Facebook is there - people have grown out of the channel, I guess... But OT is always where I'll return.

New sig to come!

I've seen my fair share of forums, and TipIt OffTopic remains my favorite. The people, the community, and the one thing that once linked our past - Runescape. I really don't like Runescape any more. In fact, I hate that it consumed so much of my life. But the fact that it brought me to this cyber environment completely makes up for it.

I can honestly say I would not be who I am now without this forum. OT has helped me get girl friends, get over girlfriends, get me music, jobs, phones, cars, ideas, everything. I selected my career because of the people I've met on OffTopic.

I love it here <3:

I just like discussing stuff with the forum. I can't exactly have mature discussions with most of my friends, because either they make an extremely crude joke about it, or are too busy staring at the girl's butt across the room.

Indeed, I know what you mean. :uhh:

I feel the same way.

Oh hey, I can make a lot more meme jokes on TIF than in real life...but I'll get shunned. I guess thats why I come back.

It's a place to actually have an intelligent discussion about topics, without people flaming you. By intelligent I don't mean a P.H.D level of education, but at least people who have an idea of what they're talking about. It's nice to lurk sometimes, adding in something if I feel like it. Also the OT people are a close-knit group, it's sort of like a family here, most people know each other, we're welcoming of newcomers, and accepting of different lifestyles, some people are gay, some are a different religion, some are athiest, and it's not "wrong". Even among the other OTers, We have disputes in threads, and are on the complete opposite side of the fence sometimes, but at the end of the day we don't hate each other just for being on the other side.
