There are other things to eat when you are bored Wongtong, and food being one of them. ;) I'd check out online (Google "Eating Glass") and see if it has been done before and if they survived, or go and see a doctor.

If that was the case, abyssal, why do chemists use glass vials and what-not?

I'm still alive, and it was only a little piece of glass, approx 1cm.

 

I was going to eat a bigger chunk that was sharper, but thought,

 

"Wow. This might hurt me."

 

 

 

Well, first I started grinding down the piece of glass with my teeth.

No, HCl doesn't. I've worked with HCl 10x more concentrated than stomach acid, and it's kept in glass. I'm assuming the glass will just pass through the digestive system and you'll have to pass it out the other end.

 

 

 

As for hydrofluoric acid, that's some seriously nasty stuff. It can kill you through skin contact if it's of a reasonable concentration.

but seriously, there has to be a better reason why you ate the glass, other than you were bored. if you don't know that reason maybe you should consider seeing a shrink so they can assess you and determine if your a threat to your own health.

 

that was a seriously stupid thing to do, and if you end up having the glass puncture your stomach or something and then you have to be rushed to surgery you have no one to blame but yourself.

 

also you will be up for a bigger cost than $20 to see a doctor if that happens, no health insurance would cover eating glass deliberately, if you have any at all. the ambulance fee alone would be rather large, if your not an ambulance member here in Australia and you get a ride in an ambulance you could easily be up for $2000 or more (according to there ad, probably not to accurate though).

 

see a doc right away and make sure you have your mobile with you in case you have to call emergency.

 

 

 

and finally when it does come out, either naturally (would be painfull!) or by a surgeon, i encourage you to keep it and put it in a frame on your wall so you don't do something so stupid and mentally wrong again.

I saw this show once where a hypnotist guy got someone to eat half a lightbulb, and he was fine, didn't cut his mouth or anything he just chewed it up and swallowed.

The one of the FEW things that can dissolve glass Is Fluoride or any compound of Fluoride (Hydrofluoric Acid )

 

 

 

Correct me if im wrong but the only thing thats in our stomach acid is Hydrochloric acid, and even in its highest concentrations it cant dissolve glass.

What?! You should get to the hospital as soon as you can... It's not like we can perform X-Rays over the internet.

Go to the toilet. If you feel a sharp pain, your stomach acids probably didn't dissolve it.

Once it makes it to your stomach you should be fine. My dad once ate a tab of a pop can on accident. A quick look at a reactivity series shows that HCl (Hydrochloric Acid) can't dissolve alluminum (Al being more reactive than H). Once in the stomach, there aren't any big muccels doing work so things can drift through without tearring things. All this continues right up to the end where I would advise if you feel a sharp pain, don't contract because the sphincter under concious control (and the unconcious one) are both conected to quite strong muccels. Chances are though, the glass with be encased in something more normal by then and you won't even notice it. And I don't think theres much hope of stomach acid dissolving glass. Stomach acid is not all that strong.

 

 

 

Now if the glass is bigger than your but hole (ie cant fit through a hole that size in any direction without touching sides) theres an issue. Skin there is not strong so it will cut.

There's a French man call Michel Lotito he once ate an aeroplane, a bicycle and a TV. He was known for eating glass and metal. He's 50-odd now, and has turned out fine.

 

 

 

Glass isn't poisonous or harmussin small abount. It'll hurt like hell when you go to the restroom though...
