Most of us are helpful but you remember the bad ones that troll and are E-Thugs on these forums. I didn't get trolled too bad when I joined but that was awhile ago. All I can say is ignore those noobs and post funnier pictures about them back at them.

The demographic that this game caters for would leave only one possible outcome TBH.

I've found the community cliquey in the sense that there is a small group of "regulars" who constantly back each other up and make comments at the expense of others. "Group think" reigns supreme. I've often noticed a blatant falsehood or misconception continuously reinforced by Lemming #2 right through to Lemming #25 purely because Lemming #1 said it was true.

I found it particularly difficult to post here originally as I felt that a few people who would like to portray themselves as benevolent and decent, also find themselves falling over themselves to flame alongside their friends when any accepted 'wisdom' is questioned.

Also, all of the wannabe mods (however well they try to hide it) don't do anything for posts that would be harmless if not for the back-seat modding/flamey comments.

I think the mods here do a fantastic job sifting through the scum tho.

I agree wholeheartedly with this.

People here need to stop blindly following one or two people because they are "respected" or "veterans"; it's just stupid. If you agree with what they say that's alright, but when you join in their "flame parades" are do whatever they want and basically become their slave, you need to start thinking for yourself.

Also, blatantly flaming people on the internet because they disagree with you or they made a mistake is stupid. Everyone has different opinions and different things to say, let them say that and stop trying to shove your opinion in their face as the right one. Everyone makes mistakes. If I decided to nitpick everyone's mistakes how stupid would I look if I made a mistake? No one's perfect, learn to live with other people's fallacies.

I agree.

I remember seeing quite a few very intelligent users coming onto the board with high posting standards only to be flamed and cast out by some 'regulars' and their followers simply because they were new. It's a shame to see how some people will blindly conform with some of the older users in an attempt to be part of the group, but that's just the way life is I'm afraid.

I've only thought this forum was "cliquey" in one section.

The Varrock library.

Honestly, I went there, posted ONE little story that was on the silly side, and they flame me, with one guy actually saying "Can I flame him to death now? Please?", or something along those lines.

As if that's not bad enough, I post there 3 months later with an actual piece up to their [sarcasm]"high"[/sarcasm], what happens?

Same people remembered me instantly, flamed me again for my first stupid work without even reading the second.

Yes, we're very cliquey. How many threads have you seen here, on RSOF, etc., that have posts that go like:

Player 1: Selling Fish!

Player 2: Hey mate! <3

Player 3: Hey (Player 2,) wubbbbbs!

Player 4: I'll buy four Fish.

Player 5: Haha, you're buying fish?! Buy them on the GE!

Player 6: Hey (Player 1,) when's your party?

Player 7: Can i come too? I know (Player 6) from this thread!

Player 1: Hey (Players he/she knows!) My party is tomorrow.

etc., etc., etc. ... (thread is totally off-topic)

There's not too much else to say, except that, like you said, we don't accept others easily, AT ALL. It's so much harder to make decent friends, these days, for we all belong to so many cliques that there's practically nowhere that one can fit in!

Evil Chicken Lair. I'm meleeing them. Someone starts yelling at me for taking the only drag he can hit with his crossbow range. "Sorry, I didn't know. HYT?" "Oh HYT sorry about that, really sorry."

Well, I don't mind. :D

@[namehere] if you read this: No offense. It's cool, it just made me chuckle. :P

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude?

Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you?

Camera guy: still laughing

Matt: You want the funny shit that happens here and there, you think it comes out of your [bleep]ing [wagon] pushes garbage can down, don't you? You think it's funny? It comes out of here! running towards Camera guy

Camera guy: runs away still laughing

Matt: You think the funny comes out of your mother[bleep]ing creativity? Comes out of Satan, mother[bleep]er! nn--ngh! pushes Camera guy down

Camera guy: Hoooholy [bleep]!

Matt: FUNNY ISN'T REAL! FUNNY ISN'T REAL!

Really the cliques on tif are the reason i left for a few months and rarely post now. One certain member just infuriates me with the way they think they are my superior in every way, honestly it still makes me see red everytime i think of it. :x

And speaking of the post count thing i just saw someone comment at that earlier in another thread saying "i'm not listening to someone with only a 100 post count". What an idiot, if God himself joined these forums right now he would have a 0 post count. Post count =/= Intelligence

The only real cliques I see INSIDE of tif is Blogscape (mostly the esc), Lighting, mostly sticking to the forums are screenies, and there seem to be many groups I can see but not find out how they all are together. If you look at blogscape long enough you'll notice that theres groups inside groups, gets weird figuring out who is in who, but at least you have stuff to joke about.

I never try to actually join online 'communities', as this always happens. The value of a person and their opinion is determined by their avatar, or their points, or their rank. What they say is the law - Slayer is the best way to train your combat stats, even though I can't stand the skill and would be better off training on cows. Farming is fun, and anyone who disagrees is "ignorant" and "stupid" (no, seriously, I vividly remember someone saying that). And if you don't hold these views, you're clearly not fit to be part of the inner sanctum of TIFers, by gum!

Ergo, BAWWWW

Ergo, I only really bother to rate achievements, give the odd piece of advice, and state my WRONG AND EVIL AND IGNORANT AND STUPID views in the general forum.

I think the main ones have to be #tip-it, Lightning, and BSC. I don't mind, they're all good fun.

I agree, but then again you cant fight human nature, some people elect themselves lord almighty, and some agree to follow, others are just good and strong people that eventually amass a following.

This board is fun, there's nothing wrong with good debate and opposing views, but when debate falls into people just repeating one person over and over, without knowing, or understanding, apart from "interloper disagrees with *high status name*, mock mock mock!".

my favorite, is when older forumites (or newer) decide they are better based on... what? post count? It's honestly the most pointless thing to throw at someone. thats like saying my opinion on pvp is better than yours because i have 3000 bars of soap in my garage*.

I dont respect people based on post count, or if i've seen something they've done ingame that was impressive. I respect people bases solely on my experience OF them, what they say, how they say it, and what they try to say. I dont judge based on spelling, because thats another unfair way to cut people down. granted you should be able to type using whole words and punctuation, but its easy to see brilliance even if brilliance is spelled in leet speek.

Overall, I'll just say that yes, Tif is cliquey- and that it would be a MUCH better place if people werent... people haha. I wont tell you to stop judging and being biased based on post count and punctuation, but tif would be a far better place if everyone did.

Reverents can be a pain, but you can run away from them. Just curious, do they still have teleblocking ability?

Fear the church, the reverents have 85 magic!!!!

I understand some people have actual trouble speaking the language. I don't mind. If you can't spell, it's OK. If you don't make the effort, it's another thing.

It's an attitude problem. You shall never pass judgment on another - friend, foe or even worse, a stranger. For in the eyes of the lord, they shall all stand naked.

There's a friend to be found in everyone, so a little politeness can make everyone's world a little better. Personal attacks such as flames and insults is as bad as slapping a stranger in the face on the street. It stings after, but instead in the soul.

In conclusion, give some love and you will receive love back.

I agree wholeheartedly on this. It also seems like a lot, I mean A LOT of people are like sheep on here. One person, and I could easily name 5 or 6 right now that do this, says something, and everyone is like "omg got to have it he is awesome maybe he will be my friend?/?" and they put it in their sig (People in OT eat glass ring a bell anyone? <---Paraphrased). Seems like it's hard to get into the cliques too.

I suppose the closest things I've seen to cliquery have come in two forms: Rate This and response to Tip It Times / Library threads.

"Rate This" mob mentality is a bid upsetting, but not surprising. The very nature of the thread is to allow the poster an opportunity to show off some hard earned achievements, and brag to his/her associates in game. People are critical out of a combination of several elements. Often they seen everything from 2200+ totals to untrimmed slayer capes, and it's hard to impress someone who's seen it all. As a result, people end up comparing each poster to the best achievements ever. It's an impossible standard to live up to.

In terms of "Tip It Times" and "Library" articles, the fact that people are so critical is probably a good sign, but it also makes things very hard on writers. I joined the writing staff recently because I saw horrendously mean and caustic things said about articles, and frankly thought that if nothing else I have a thicker skin than most and would like to absorb some of that punishment doled out upon other hard working writers. The writers try to put out articles, but are not always given material to work with. Not every week is a new "Grand Exchange" released to talk about, but that doesn't change the expectation of the readers. The simple fact is that there have been some great writers in the past whom have come and gone. New writers (and I exclude myself for obvious bias) are doing a good job, but if you're looking for the old style you grew to like, a new writer will offer something different and the grass is greener. Therefore people who want a "market" article are upset by an "update" article, or vice versa.

By and large the community here is great; while there is some occasional cynicism the most important thing to do is to step back and isolate it for what it is: a few members spoiled by the quality of similar threads in the past that have yet to understand that different is not necessarily any worse.

*points to rate this*

unfortunatly it happens there.

[story]

Few months back, i had JUST recieved my very first dragon drop, a Dragon Skirt.

While i was still as excited as a 5yo on a sugar rush i went to post on "Rate This"

as my First dragon drop and was quite proud, reguardless of value, to my disbeleaf

[sp?] someone else who posted about getting a Dragon Skirt as their 1st item was

being Flamed. So i simply kept to myself to avoid Sunburn.

[/story]

as for Post Count harrassment, when i first joined here i slowly raised my Post Count from first off intrducing myself on the Sticky, followed by giving Constructive Feedback on Help & Advice and Debate Club. but it is a tad' unfortunate if a new member gets flamed, espec if they introduce themselfs by creating a thread in General Discussion insted of "Introduce Yourselfs Here!" they get more burnt then a toddler in the Safari Deserts on a Summer's Day. -.-
