I'd be more interested in specific breakdowns of time/how experience is earned. I spent (wasted?) loads of time making pies in the cooking guild, before fully realizing how much more efficient fishing/cooking is. Mind you at Lvl 82 cooking, I'm not even 1/4 of the way to a skill cape (in any skill) But would Jagex be able to at some point be able to divide the cooking skill into two (grilling/frying vs. baking?) and apply past relevant experience to either skill? Or is that too ephemeral for them to bother tracking?

As to overall efficiency. Most players probably overestimate their efficiency, meaning they'd underestimate time played strictly by levels. Time spent merchanting, sorting your bank, travelling without using runes, following a treasure trail, burning seaweed into soda ash, etc. You are not earning any experience. If you don't limit your in-game chatting to times of active skilling, then you're losing efficiency there as well. But to muddy the waters even more, spending the time merchanting to buy pure essence for rc'ing and training mining on iron or granite instead would most likely be more efficient than powermining and crafting all your own ess.

So to that end, does it really matter how much time you spend in trying to achieve any goal? RS is not really a game you can win. If your goal is merely to get every skill cape, a fire cape, all godswords, etc. and retire afterward, then you're probably so focused on the destination that you aren't enjoying the journey very much, if at all. Forcing yourself to spend weeks chopping willows in Draynor just to get a WC cape in the least amount of time possible is probably going to lead to major burnout. Train your cat in the rat pits or visit the party room to break up the monotony. You won't be earning beaucoup xp, but you might make some new friends and have some fun along the way.

Ugh, might be 5000 - 10000 hours...

I started about 4 - 5 years ago, but I'm still only level 106. I think that's because i spend most of my time doing useless stuff...

But i think all of those years except one, i played at least 120 hours a month. But this is me just throwing out estimates.

Hexiled Razz. Player since March 8th, 2005.

hmm 2.8 years playing

Holidays i can get abit addicted to the game(6+ hours)

School days- 0-2 hours...

7 days in a week...

hmm i'll average it with 365 days times 2.5(years) times 3 hours

Computer says 2737.5 hours

Around 5700 hours.

I made this http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=762545, a similar topic a while ago except mine was about a knowledge bank which records how many of each monster you have killed etc. my topic got moved to questionnaires where it died quickly (needless to say), [/end whine]

i think its a good idea and i dont hink i would be too sad seeing all the time i spent playing runescape, just interested. i think this (and the monster log) should become available

NICKELEY102.png

If i had to calc it my total playing time would be 2200 hours, witch means if i had worked that time ... oh man i guess runescape is an expensive hobby

if I knew the average xp/hour when playing it would be easy to figure out

50k/hour would put me at 3000 hours with 150m exp.

that's considerably less than that many people have been estimating but I don't think it's too unreasonable since many things like melee combat are over 100k/hr, doing stuff like ice bursting is about 200k/hour, most skills are at least 50k/hour except runecrafting. only monster hunting and being a noob (your first 6 months-1 years of playing rs :P) bring the total down that much unless you're prone to just standing around talking

Around 7000-8000 hours...

yes, im addicted... and i did some days of 29 hours... (no parents @ home, energy drinks and coffee  )

But still, it doesnt shock me actually, cause I know I play way to much..

But still, I do sports and have school (who says u cant play rs at school on ure own laptop?)

but it's still alot!

Oh wow...yeah I expect...50k hours? nah joke joke...um...I'm not gonna try guessing 'cause it would hurt my brain too much.I would look if I had the chance but I think I'd be kinda sad about it, either because I think I play too much and don't get much done or just because I play too much .But it's fun so  and <3: and :-#

I resemble that remark!

way too long.... gotta have played like 6 years at least... remember i got into it around the 6th grade and now im about to finish first semester in college.... even with my giant breaks that i took in between here and there... its gotta be 5000-7000 minimum. would be really scary to see how much time i spent on this game. then again, sometimes i just log on and watch tv or study while i let my character wc or w/e

i'm allready seeing the hour i play rs i use "xfire" to see how many hour i play but i just started to use it so i lost alot (like 5000/6000 hours) of registration :(

Let's see ... 2.5 years x 365 days = 912.5 days x 2 hours = 1.8k. Maximum is 912.5 x 6 hours = 5.4k. Somewhere there >.>

I think my daily average time is around 2 hours though.

[hide=This is what you look like when you play RS too long]2vvq0z4.jpg[/hide]

The actually playing would be between 1000 and 1500 for me, if you also consider the time you spent at reading the articles and looking to the highscores it would scare me.

StGerolf.png

5 bucks sais the person that follows you calling you the no lifer, is the one who plays more than you

Let's see....I've played since....2003, but took a long absence in between. To be honest, I don't even want to know #-o

I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"

walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

I've been playing over a week now so...
