Why are we so cynical?

 

I for one have a very dark sense of humor, and am sarcastic all the time. But I always wondered, why? I don't have a positive outlook on life, and i've noticed alot of very smart people tend to be quite negative and cynical, meanwhile alot of less intelligent people are happier.

 

Is it that ignorance is bliss, and the ones of us that know alot, know more and can see that there is more sadness in the world?

 

I mean, I could try being positive, but it wouldn't come naturally, or even feel natural so I don't think I could keep it up O.o

Because people make me sick.

 

 

 

They stare at strangers with hatred in their eyes,no matter who sparked their ire,and when they lose their anger they lament having no friends.

 

They fight each other for religion alone.I like to think the gods all live in the same heaven in peace.Except for Buddha and Jesus,since Jesus owes Buddha a flicking of the balls.

 

They fight each other over money,and how it should be spread.

 

Greed.

 

They laugh at people rolling around in wheelchairs,maybe stare hard if they have good discipline.The moment Stephen Hawking is mentioned they stfu.(IE,double standards)

I guess intelligent people think more about depressing issues.

I've begun believing less and less in isms. I've come to realize how little importance they really have in my life. I believe in me, and my friends, and a few other things.

 

 

 

But I am occasionally cynical. (Never said I can't believe in als...) I don't like to be. Why not sugar-coat everything? Sugar is delicious.

I have a pretty cynical (dark, if you want to say that) sense of humor. I consider myself to be happy though.

It's not just him, most of the school is both happy and stupid.

It's people like that, the idiots that are breeding like rabbits, that have made me who I am today; a sarcastic, ill-humored sonovagun.

 

 

 

I'm not sure if I have a positive outlook or not. I guess I'm just living, and pushing away those that try to infringe upon it. Guess that's not too positive then. I think part of it extends from what I already mentioned; the vast amount of sheer idiots. I see them everyday, though thankfully in lesser numbers because of my higher level classes, but they sneak a few in there anyways.

I find people fascinating and could never see hating them, but I'm a great deal more easy going than your average person. Almost like an old man.

 

 

 

I've found myself to generally believe in people (I usually give people the benefit of the doubt), but at the same time I find people to be naturally selfish and greedy. What I do find funny though is that so many of you (people in general, not pointing fingers) talk about other people like you're different from them. You're not. I'm not. But we find comfort in separating others from ourselves and feeding our egos. Ah well, so it goes.

It does prove difficult when they make the separating so damn easy.

Over-thinking always makes things somehow more depressing for me. I don't even know why. Maybe we all just have different positive/negative equilibriums.

I'd say I'm a bit misanthropic. I just don't like people. I don't know why, they (we?) annoy me and I don't trust them. (I don't trust myself either?)

 

According to my parents, I was a happy kid. I'm pretty sure I know why, ignorance was definitely bliss. As I grew and I learned more about the world, heard/learned about tragic events and whatnot, I made some conclusions and decided that life isn't always as great as it seems.

 

Though I can't decide if I'm too serious and too sarcastic. :wall:

Maybe you need to reunite with your inner child and rediscover the simple things in life and that the world is not doomed to chaos and disaster.

I actually haven't noticed that. Some of the happiest people I know are also the smartest.

 

 

 

I also don't necessarily think that being cynical means you're unhappy. Maybe a fair chunk of cynical people are, but certainly not all of them. I'd say that there's something else fueling your unhappiness other than your cynical attitude.

I suppose it's a double-edged sword really. There are cynics who constantly look for sinister motives, and cynics who look at people benignly. Although you could argue cynicism itself is a natural feeling of distrust - a negative emotion.

 

 

 

Linking cynicism, a trait, with intelligence, a quality, is really really really silly by the way...

I'm cynical of religion, new ideas or propositions, and those ads that tell me I'm the millionth visitor. A lot of people say I'm cynical--perhaps because I have a very sarcastic sense of humour. However, I can't relate to what any of you are saying about hating people because some of them are idiots.

 

 

 

I dislike many people, and I find it very easy to see the fault in everyone. However, unless it's in relation to someone I don't want to like (because they've done something to get on my bad side), or unless it actually presents an immediate problem, I just overlook their faults. It makes life a lot nicer, I think.

I'm fairly certain happiness is independent of intelligence.

There are many kinds of intelligence.

 

 

 

And happiness doesn't always happen by itself. You've gotta learn how to be happy and it can take lots of time, studying, determination, and training. Some people never learn how to be happy.

Ofcourse it debends on person. By training/studying I simply mean dedicating time for searching what really makes you happy.

 

For example I know it would be easy to sit on computer all day, playing games and that sort of things. I know I would like it, but I also know I wouldn't be truely happy that way, so I have to have to do some work to be happy. Being happy is not always easy.
