What do you define as 'wasted time'? Time you spend on Tif? Checking e-mail? Watching TV? Or are you of the mind that if you choose to do something, you've decided that it's worth doing and so is not a waste of time?

Do you think society as a whole has begun to waste more and more time? Even if there's not more time being wasted, do you think there's a lot of time lost due to the unadeptness of many?

Personally I think that very little of my time (That's in my control. School is generally a waste of time, for me at least.) is wasted. I do spend a large amount of time on the computer; most of it I spend on DeviantART, Tif, and Facebook. I would consider most of my time spent on Facebook as a waste, but DevART and Tif are definately worth my while. I spend a fair amount of time working on art projects, in GIMP and on paper as well. I watch a little TV, mostly those programs I think are worth watching. And I read a lot, but if there's a book I hate, I won't finish it as I believe I'm wasting time if I finish it.

I believe society wastes a huge amount of time. Students who don't pay attention, and force the teacher to waste time explaining it again to them. Incompetent tech support people who take four hours to explain something you could have solved in two minutes using the internet. There's probably other great examples that I can't think of now as well.

Wasted time is anything I really don't want to do. TIF = Not wasted time. Myspace or facebook = Wasted time

Really anything you like to do or want to do Isn't wasted time. So school must be a big waste of time.

If you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

I think school is a waste of time. Now, don't get me wrong - I've learned lots and lots from school, but it has gotten to the point where everything I'm "learning" now is trivial and useless. It's my senior year and 5/7 of my classes are electives that I don't even have interest in. Plus after I'm tested on it, I don't even retain most of that knowledge and forget within a few weeks. I'd much rather be living my life how I want instead of being imprisoned in a room full of my dramatic, arrogant, and stupid peers.

I know what you mean. If knowledge was actually appreciated for and as knowledge you'd have an excellent case, but the way things are with education being boiled down to words and numbers on a piece of paper, obviously school will actually help you out lots in the future. I'm in a similar situation though. I hate my university course, but I've only got a year and a half left so it doesn't make any sense to drop out. There's ways I'd much rather be spending my time, but if I can just stick with it and get my degree then I'll be able to move on to what I actually want to do. Without my (practically) useless degree I wouldn't be able to get into another course.

School. NOT EDUCATION. NOT LEARNING. School. Because it is neither of those things. Nor is it safe, which is what schools are hailed as being.

Wily wabbits.

I usually don't consider anything wasted.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Lent, you eat wabbits.

Considering you live in a crazy gun toting state full of drug junkies and people with more STDs you can count on your fingers, yeah...I'd agree with you.

Generally doing something I'm forced to do is a waste of time for me.

I don't think school was all wasted time for me. Sure, some of it turned out to be utterly meaningless and of no use to me now, but it all gave me an opportunity to figure out what subjects I like doing so I could perhaps go on to study them in university. In retrospect some of what I was learning in school was time very well spent. I also found great value in time spent with friends, etc. Definitely not a waste in that respect.

Personally, I don't think of anything as a waste of time. Granted, everything I do may not be constructive, but it has all given me experience in some way or another.

Wasted time is when I do something that turns out to be futile.

I don't really agree with that. Even if it's futile, it give you experience.

This is Runescape related, but it works for this topic.

Example: I spent 2 hours slaying in Pvp to gain drop potential. I was pked, and lost 1M. My next ten PvP drops, all while both me and my opponent were risking over 75k, amounted to less than 150k.

I learned to be more careful in PvP, and be careful about what armour I wear. Also, I'm currently moneymaking, and plan to have a much better outfit when I return to combat :P

In my view, wasted time is time not enjoyed or either time spent which proves to have no benefits.

I agree with Lent to a certain degree, I learn more by ditching class and reading my class book for 40 minutes instead of spending 40 minutes listening to a weak teacher trying to control a class. Then when class ends [cabbage] happens, meaning it's not safe. Today during the times while we waited for teachers to show up, 3 "projectile" fights (anything from bottles, books to chairs) happened, I'd be safer breaking the rules and going to the cafeteria to get some food or just chilling in the yard.

Some of my classes at school feel like wasted time. I'm talking about classes like physical education. Don't get me wrong, I understand that there are people who really need to exercise (And I suppose I'm one of them). But it's not like we do anything...I was actually using this to apply to Chinese school the other day - If I'm going to do something, I want to get something about of it. My Chinese teacher this year absolutely sucks, I learn absolutely nothing, so I'd say the three hours I spend weekly is a waste.

And my math teacher earlier this year was horrible. She was a terrible teacher, and I was out for a week. I studied the stuff on my own (~15-20 minutes a day, opposed to 60 minutes per class), and the day I get back, I take a test, with the rest of the class. I end up with an A.

But then there are actually good teachers at my school. I don't feel like those classes are a waste - I may not learn much, I may not learn anything that will really help me in life - But at least I get something out of it. And I actually like to learn. (So I suppose I agree with Lenticular. Learning/education is definitely not a waste, it may very well be one of the things I enjoy most. But school can easily be a waste)

And I agree with warri0r. If it weren't for school I doubt I would know I love math. And unless your school is literally a jail (And mine comes close, we don't even have windows), there should be some fun. Spending time with friends really isn't a waste, unless you're doing something stupid. (...Or doing nothing at all)

On the other hand, I regret a good deal of the things I do, but I wouldn't really call that a waste. As long as I get something out of it, I wouldn't consider anything a waste.

If you can't tell your friends about it because it's too boring/uneventful/didn't teach you anything, it's wasted time.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

I have time to waste, so I waste it. :) The only things I really want to do are outside of the US, so until I'm done with college and financially stable, I have lots of time to waste - whether it be watching tv, runescape, watching movies, taking half hour long showers, hour long dumps...none of it bothers me and I know that I'm pretty much just passing the time.

I'm the kind of person who rarely ever wishes time would go faster (well, seem to go faster).

May the presents of our lord and savior, Santa, be with you this holiday season!

Wasted time for me is if you're bored, spend ages thinking about something to do, get an epic idea and then think "dammit, if I thought of this before I would have longer to do it"

I think this sums it up quite well for me.

I also think time spent day-dreaming or just sitting blankly is another waste of time, because both haven't really got you anywhere. To those who think day-dreaming isn't a waste of time, then just bare in mind that time spent imagining scenarios is less time available/wasted time actually carrying them through (assuming you're day-dreaming realistic scenarios :) ).

Get a diary and write down everything that needs to be done. Anything that is left over is for leisure, fun, etc

My opinion is if you ignore what needs to be done that day, then it is no longer relaxation time but wasted time.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
