Yeah, if the TIF has a 7 page rap thread, who knows how many pages a metal thread can get :P

Yeah, so what is everyone's favorite metal artists? What are your favorite types of metal?

Personally my favorite metal band is System Of A Down. And I like progressive/black/alternative metal (pretty much any one of the three.)

My favorite metal has to be Power Metal (Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Pink Cream 69, Angra, Edguy, and At Vance to name a few favorites). It is just so awesome (though i can't stand most of the cheesy lyric type like Rhapsody).

Second favorite is Progressive, I'm a huge DT fan but also like bands like Circus Maximus and Adagio.

But I listen to all types, a lot of Death Metal, Melodeath, Metalcore, Grindcore (not with the pig squeals >.<), Alternative metal, pretty much anything you can name except Rap metal and Nu-metal.

I like all kinds of metal (depending on the style). I'm mostly a fan of alt. metal (System of a Down, Godsmack, Tool, etc), prog-metal (Dream Theater), thrash metal (Metal Church, Pantera), certain death/grindcore bands (Napalm Death, Malevolent Creation, Death, etc.), and a couple I haven't mentioned.

I mostly like death metal, particularly regular death metal, tech death and some brutal death.

Death metal bands:

Death metal: Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Malevolent Creation, Obituary, Demigod, Bolt Thrower, Carcass, Carnage, Abhorrence, Monstrosity, Necrophagia, Thanatos, The Chasm, Torture Division, Vader.

Tech death: Pestilence, Gorod, Decapitated, Spawn of Possession, Demilich, Atheist, Cynic, Gorguts, Ontogeny, Lykathea Aflame, Psycroptic, The Faceless, Blotted Science (instrumental).

Brutal Death: Suffocation, Devourment, Abysmal Torment, Defeated Sanity, Dripping, Gorgasm, Grotesque, Nile.

There's some crossover in those genres, so please don't get pedantic on me.

Other genres/bands:

Heavy metal: Danzig.

Thrash: Metallica, Slayer

Alternative metal: Sunk Loto, Lynchmada, Deftones, Faith No More (iffy categorization, but I have to add them because I love them).

Post-thrash: Pantera, Lamb of God, Meshuggah

Post-metal: Cult of Luna

Prog metal and/or prog rock: Tool, A Perfect Circle, Porcupine Tree, Cog, Portal, Control Denied, Opeth

Core: A Different Breed of Killer, Parkway Drive, Ion Dissonance, BTBAM

Again, I can't possibly put all these into 100% accurate categories because it would just take me too long.

Dude, you gotta be kidding me! There are at least 10000 topics with the same subject, or very close. And it eventually all ends with people arguing about genres and the trveness thereof and / or Adio coming in and starting a flame war.

Anyway, I used to like power metal a lot, but now I don't think I'd be able to listen to much of that. I still like viking / folk and atmospheric black metal (the likes of Summoning). I still don't see the fun with doom metal. Dunno about favourite artists, I don't really wanna start a list, because it would be quite long, and I don't have any absolute 'favourites' anymore; I listen to as much as I can and sometimes I feel like listening to some stuff more and others less, you know how it goes.

Since you asked, Rhaila, a lot of those bands aren't even metal. They're either emo or some variant of rock. The only metal I know on your list is Between the Buried and me, Opeth, metallica and Killswitch engage (I think).

Anyways I don't really know if I could pull a favorites list out of my hat either. There have been a hundred different threads about this though.

Easier for me to say what i don't like.

All those types of "core", emo, glam, drone, nu, i'd never in my life listen to them.

Heaven Shall Burn is really the only hardcore metal I know...I know other bands but I don't want someone on my case about it not being the right type of metal -.-

I don't purposely restrict myself to metal, but I do have to say that this was the genre that really got me into music. There's so much emotion and energy behind it. Some of my faves are Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Tool, and Pantera. Yeah, I know - all the popular ones. :P

All sorts of stuff really. I mostly started out on European/Scandinavian power metal, usually with female vocals. I also have a lot of progressive (Ayreon (and various Ayreon spin offs), Dream Theater), some goth stuff (early Theatre of Tragedy, Tristania), industrial (Oomph!, Diorama), viking/folk (Ensiferum, Finntroll) and symphonic (Therion, Haggard). Haggard especially is a favourite of mine, with a great mix of symphonic classical music, heavy guitars and grunts:

I like metal, but not any specific genre. Iron Maiden (Mostly Paul Di'annio era), Dream Theater, Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Dragonforce (here come the flames...) would be the big ones. I heard some stuff by Tool, Children of Bodom, and a Black Metal band that Mlbfan there recommended, but I can't remember (Mayhem?).

Can't say I'm a fan of death and black metal vocals though. I like the music, but the little I've heard isn't enough to make a judgment on.

Through the fire and the flames shall you carry on.

I've been listening to Burzum recently (haven't got DSEV yet though). It's good for the most part, but songs like Tomhet and Rundtgaing...oh dear.

Don't really have a favourite genre, I usually just listen to whatever I'm in the mood for.

My favorite type of metal is probably death metal.

My favorite metal bands are whitehcapel, and cradle of filth.

"Cradle of Filth are an extreme metal band from Suffolk, England, formed in 1991."

"Whitechapel is an American deathcore band from Knoxville, Tennessee, formed in 2006."

What?

Kreator and Sean Baker Orchestra have some pretty good heavier metal production. Just got into them last year by a friend's recommendation. It's never too late to find great bands that always existed.. You simply didn't know, or didn't care enough in the past to look into them
