What if you -COULD- use P2P Stuff in F2P worlds?

Featured Replies

It has been reported that recently a bug was released with the new prayer update. Players who earned access to the Piety Prayer in P2P could activate Piety through quick-prayer access and use it to obliterate F2P players.

This is assuredly a bug, and I'm sure people caught abusing it will be dealt with, perhaps harshly. One offhanded comment in that thread caught my eye.

You have to complete the quest, so basically it would be like using P2P items on F2P.

This poses an interesting question: Would that be a bad thing?

It would certainly upset a lot of people, but ultimately an update such as that could be -very- useful to Jagex's capability to make money.

If P2P Players could bring with and use their weapons, armor, and potions from members worlds to fight F2P players, there would be a MASSIVE shakeup. I can see one of two things happening:

CASE 1. - It doesn't work.

Members come to F2P worlds for cheap thrills, and predatorily massacre F2P players who are essentially defenseless. Almost regardless of levels, eating swordfish and wielding rune is no match for an AGS swinging, Bandos wearing sara-sipper.

As a result, F2P goes to hell. The pipeline of young players who enjoy F2P dries up, and with it goes the opportunity for future members. After all, no one likes to lose all the time, and less new players stick around for long enough to get "hooked".

CASE 2. - It does work.

Members rarely come over, but when they do, they dominate. It isn't really worth their time to PK in F2P, due to the lower risk/reward threshholds. Why bother risking your Dragonfire shield to potentially win another rune plate?

The few that do PK in F2P become targets. They are quickly piled when they join any multicombat zones. New iterations of "noob" spring up, to everyone's displeasure, but it unites the F2P community to stand against their overpowered opponents.

Moreover, it is an excellent advertising tool. What better way to promote the value of P2P than to get your butt kicked by someone of equal level because they have vastly superior gear? This increases membership rates, as people are enamored by all the cool toys P2P has to play with.

I don't know one way or the other which case would take hold here, but both are at least somewhat feasible.

What do you think?

stormveritas.png

I think that p2p people would get massacred by teams, and would get next to nothing for their efforts, so it really wouldn't be worth it. That said, in single combat zones, they would probably own the poor f2p players, and it would just be mean and completely not fair.

You can't help but laugh though

I spose it could be used as an advertising tool to help f2p see that the grass is greener on the other side but I doubt that would happen

It'd be good if you could use them in normal F2P and safe PVP, like clan wars, with an option to turn members items off.

There's no point in having them in a F2P PVP world because that would be completely unfair and would lead to more people quitting than more people signing up to members.

But if they could be used for like training in F2P and safe PVP that could be quite fun.

But you HAVE to be a member to use members items on F2P, so if you lose membership whilst wielding your AGS you can't use it. For the first few days members would cram in F2P trying out all their weapons but once the hype dies down and people realise that instead of using their GS on moss giants they could go to armoured zombies instead it would be back to normal and just a novelty.

And F2Pers can have the option to turn off members items when duelling, clan warring etc.

New players (POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS) would hardly find it amusing. Although I can see that it would be a rather great incentive to purchase p2p.

But I think Jagex would take massive heat from gaming websites and competitors.

well...it's not only combat guys. players will can't dominate anything...yews in rimmington/varrock? snape grass spawns? even cows? (not all mems are that high lvls...) the positive thing in it is less crowded in p2p :P

however thing about it as f2p&p2p like java&playeres relationship. back then when jmods was "abit" more common ingame, players could lead much more easily awsome ideas (castle wars anyone?) to the game. p2p&f2p are starter players and advanced players, p2p guys will only stop at f2p if their visiting their irl friend or out of membership...now think if at least *some* of the activities, that will be equal to do in all servers. some members might get on free servers, meet new players and make their way into gielinor much easier :)

theres ALOT of things none of us can except if jagex will do so...but i'm sure on one thing...

BUGS INGAME!!! :-#

im guessing CASE 1 would happen. too many pkers enjoy noobs... that said however, i would support an arena where members could fight each other in f2p, and use their membs gear in there. now THAT would be great advertising for members, eh?

I agree with this, because showing the f2p players what the members stuff was like is prob better than letting p2p slaughter f2p worlds.

HUSH!

That thread is still to this day the best thing I have ever read on Tip.it.

calvinandhobbessigedite.png

Would definitely suck, because F2P is the only place where fighting is still sort of balanced.

In P2P PvP it's all AGS/DClaws specs pjers, full Dharoks and 25K'ers.

I think many members would come to f2p worlds to show off (actually this is pretty common already) but if they could use their items I am sure many players would take advantage and utilize their benefits on free worlds for fun. Personally I would no longer be playing Runescape if that happened.

I just made a similiar topic.... I guess you put it out more clearly though, yes I can totally see case 1 happening. P2p would totally DESTROY F2P BUTT because of the SUPERIOR gear, I can totally see blitz-dclaws 1hitk0ing plenty of noobs.... that have no chance to win/survive.

This would be a very bad thing, based on one simple premise - not everyone can get access to D Claws or any of the other godly stuff you're using to beat them down.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

that'd be awseome but wont happen obviously. People would train in f2p i bet a lot more.

F2p is not a demo, so why should it be treated as one.

Its not a game if you can get whooped by someone in the member world, and lots of people will just leave because they get annoyed and don't want to pay money for members.

O.O

MMOWatQ.

Massive Multiplayer Online Warfare and then Quitting.

"Noob" members would swarm over and drown F2P with their dragon weapons, dragon armour, bandos, etcetera.

F2P PKers would mass up and rebel, complaining to Jagex about how unfair it is. Meanwhile 'Member hunter' clans would spring up to kill members, for fun or because they think it'll give them drops.

Ancient mages would zomgpwn... everyone.

Many F2P people would quit- PKing is one of the funnest things to do in F2P.

Jagex's cashflow would dry up, leaving only the pre-update members.

They would panic without their new Mustangs, and take out the update.

People would complain. The end.

wow.jpg

Glad to know my homies are looking out for me.

But this poses the problem of buying all that great gear, cancelling membership, and just wearing it in F2P, while being able to use it. Faster levels while training, ownage in PVP..etc.

I'd actually like to see it implemented for, say, 3 days. It would be quite funny.

And the results could be really interesting.

if members went into non members pvp worlds it would be bad

this idea has a slight possibility, but i think if it ever were to happen, there would be very strict limitations as to where members gear could be used in f2p. first of, if this ever were to happen, i can almost garuntee that using p2p gear in pvp would be out of the question.

however, be able to use members gear anywhere else has the potential to really increase the number of membership players= more money for jagex. as long as there is no risk to the f2p'ers, i could see this as a potential way for jagex to increase their revenues. the one thing that im asking myself is, do us p2p'ers really want more pple being members? i mean the majority (note: majority) of membership players tend to be more mature than the younger kids in f2p who often skate around the 13 year age limit. i for one do not want a huge rush of immature players flooding the relatively less crowded member worlds  now im not saying all f2p'ers are immature, just overall there tends to be more young kids there. hmmm new thread topic?

That's essentially how Arcanists works on Funorb. Members are allowed to use their spells in F2P. Usually, they dominate and destroy the freeplayers, but occasionally a freeplayer can slay a member. I've done it a few times.

But there's one major difference, you can choose who you fight in Arcanists. You can choose to face a member, or you can just boot them from the room. Go to an Arcanists game in f2p. Once a member comes, the owner of the room boots him within 10 seconds of joining. It's that bad. Freeplayers won't even consider having members play.

So no, it won't work at all. It'll only end of chasing away freeplayers and making nonmember works a simple expansion of members worlds.

I think it would be a mix of the two, and would pretty much suck for both parties. Members would swoop in with their overpowered weapons and armor and would own everyone in single-combat zones, as well as taking cheap shots (running out of fally bank and double ags'ing, before retreating again).

However, if they stepped out into any multicombat area, they would be immediately piled (for glory, money, fun, or whatever else), and would complain about losing their expensive weapons.

Basically, I'd say it would have negative effects.
