I actually tried squating closer to my max today; usually I do half a dozen sets of squats, so I usually do them around 225. I ended up doing three sets of 250 after two of 225 (8 per), so I guess my max is higher than I thought.

 

 

 

What would y'all define as maxing? A set of 8 (maybe 10) with perfect form? Less? More?

I'd define that as general max. Absolute, I'd say is two or three as high as you can go, perfect form.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I always regarded maxing as a single rep, since that's the maximum weight you could lift at all. But tbh with squats, if you can do one you can probably do a few. Deadlifted 242 on Friday for 5 reps which broke my record, I was pretty pleased with that.

Well in my school, atleast, it is considered a single rep. Almost wet myself when my friend, and best squatter, hit 515 lbs a while ago :shock:

Any of you guys taking supplements?

 

 

 

Been on some pretty [cabbage]ty stuff till now, it's cheap but there's no great results from it. As soon as I get my summer job, I'm doing 3 months on the BSN mass stack (It's 3 different supplements, 2 of which are meant to be done on 3 month cycles, the 3rd item is only effective if taken with the other 2) and I'm thinking Optimum Nutrition Gold X for my protein, seems pretty good, both Whey and Casein in each serving meaning the Whey is quick release while the Casein is slowly released hours after the workout.

 

 

 

Any recommendations on supplements?

 

 

 

And yes, I'd call a "max" a single rep of the highest you can do, usually if you can do a 2nd or a 3rd rep, you should be able to throw 5-10 extra on to it and do 1 of that.

I heard that cutting off circulation to your arms when you are working out gives good results. But that was from the same person who said exposure to farts can give you pink eye. So, what do you 99 Strength experts have to say about this?

I never heard of that and if anything I think it would make it worse considering there would be less oxygen and nutrients reaching the muscles during the workout. Sounds more like an urban myth than anything, same as pink eye.

I'm a wrestler and coach requires that we do weight trainign with the football players. Today's the second to alst week of school, so we're doing the last max outs of the year for our final exam grade :lol: .

 

 

 

Today was bench day and I got 255, tomorrow and wednesday will be squat and powerclean day, respectively. I suck at cleans, by the way.

 

 

 

I weigh about 149 or so pounds right now(wrestled 145 this year), and I' like 5'10" I think. 6.8% body fat.

Started weight training last year, and I had no idea what a power clean was before then. BS lift in my opinion.

Atg or [wagon] to grass/ground is a good indicator of a true squat, as compared to those 2/4'th reps with 5 plates. :lol: None the less, nice squat. No deadlifts?

Getting low enough and getting parrallel. Nothing makes me more mad then when coach says "noooooo" after i hit a "new" max. -.-
